Tropical Storm Arthur has already formed today in the Bay of Campeche. It is the first trans-gender tropical cyclone that I have ever known of . This system was originally Tropical Storm Alma on the Pacific side.

I can hope for none since I work in insurance, but I think it'll be Corpus' year.

One of my biggest worries is not whether we get hit.. It's whether or not my insurance company would step up to the plate and cover the damage.

Living close to the Gulf Coast, you kind of expect storms now and then. That's just part of living here, but, i do have enough smarts to get out of harms way if need be. The horror stories of what happened after Katrina with all the damage, death, and rif raf afterward are probably what concern most people.

If those people had purchased the proper coverage, there wouldn't be the problems they had over there. Those people wanted their insurance companies to pay for their flood damage, which isn't covered by home insurance. Now, yes, there are bad adjusters out there that make mistakes, we;re all human, but I don't believe there was widespread attempts to rip people off by any specific insurance company. Maybe there were such attempts by particular adjusters/independent adjusting firms, though.

Buy a flood insurance policy. It's cheap, and worth it if you live along the coast.

I remember growing up in Victoria that I never wanted a hurricane because I didn't want them to cancel games or the season :p

So what in the eyes of insurance companies constitutes "water damage"?

Say my roof blew off in a heavy wind and rain came in & soaked the entire house.. would that be covered under "Wind" or "Water"..or is that a misnomer?

That's all wind and wind driven rain damage. What isn't covered is "Rising Water, whether or not caused by wind or any other cause"

They were trying to say because the wind caused the sea to rise into their home, it was wind damage. But, that's a flood, plain and simple. Doesn't matter what causes the flood (rising water), it isn't covered.

Or, in Louisiana's case, they tried to say the damage was "Levee Failure Damage" caused by wind. That didn't work, either. A flood is a flood is a flood. And that's what the National Flood Insurance Program is for.

No matter who I vote for, it is going to affect someone in my family. Everyone in the CC area seems not worried, so I say it's they're turn. Rage is right, it will mess up the football season for some teams if they're the lucky ones.

It would be quite interesting if New York got hit.

And since they don't drive cars up there, we would have any risk to our gas prices...

Galveston will probably be it. When I lived in Lake Jackson it seemed like every year we got hit by something lol.

Just another reason to justify raising gas prices again.

I say, Texas coast will not get hit. I prefer to think on the positive end of things. :)

I hope nothing gets hit in Texas but I am more worried about Gaines-vegas getting hit. My older brother and his fiance both go to UF. They have made it through a tidal wave in costa rica and some hurricanes before but I'd rather not have to think about it.

Looks like Prez and Rage win the 2008 5ATFB Hurricane Predicters Award. HUM was closer but I think kinda cheated.
