Okay, I will admit it - I am and always have been a comic book geek. I didn't learn to read from school, I learned to read from Mad and Archie! Anyway, this article caught my eye on CNN just now. I am also married to a comic book geek supreme and our vacation this summer is in San Diego (and Disneyland) so we can geek out with all of the other hundreds of thousands. at Comic Con International.
So this particular piece is about the horror genre - you know the ones - Horror, Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, et al. I read them with a vengeance when I was a kid - which explains my weird sense of humor and my urge to watch old horror movies when they are on I guess - and I never missed a Mad or Cracked issue either back in the day. My dad would give me a dollar to go buy him cigarettes (little did I realize I was contributing to his early death:() and I would have enough left over for candy, a Mad and a Tiger Beat - and still have change left over!! And I was only 10 - 14 years old buying cigs and not even the one smoking them!!
It's interesting that they thought these books would make JD's of us all but not only did my husband and I survive the atrocities of those cartoons but are pretty straight folks and just plain geeky most times. My dad actually introduced me to these mags, along with True West and that whole western genre. We read Famous Monsters of Filmland also. Anyway, it's an interesting article (if you are swayed in a geeky direction) and one that I'm sure will be up for discussion at one of the panels in San Diego!!

Interesting read. My habit is about $50 a month:eek: but I have always been a "Superhero" fan. Superman, Hulk, and others. Mom you should try a new one called "kick-a**" it is great.

My husband likes the superheros. I was into them for a while with the Alex Ross Marvels books - only because his artwork was absolutely amazing and because he hid the Beatles faces in his artwork - I liked the challenge of finding them. We have thousands upon thousands of bagged and boxed comic books - we need a storage unit for them. I told him we need to get a booth at a show and get rid of some! I love watching these artists draw too the guy who drew (the initial picture - not the inking) for Archie once drew my girls as Archie characters. Stan Lee is awesome and Todd McFarland is pretty cool too. However, my son's all time favorite time was when he met and hung out for a while with Matt Groening! Talk about a cool cat!

I thought me and some my friends were comic book fans, but I relinquish that crown to you and your hubby:D If you get a booth let me know I might come down and take a look.

and I'm pretty sure my legs aren't even close to that size or full of that much cellulite:D:D. I'd hate to have her sit next to me on an airplane - I'd suffocate!!
Another thing - she's got her purse hanging on her arm like she's going grocery shopping or something.

If you lived here I would suggest you go to Bedrock City Comics - Richard is the absolute expert in all things comic and possibly even Anime!! We were leaving the British Museum a few weeks ago where we saw all these mummies and greek statuary and old tools and such - you'd think my husband is impressed right? NO, the most exciting part of the day for him was when we exited out the other side and there was a comic book store!!!! The Brits love them too I guess:D

thx for the suggestion, I go to Titan Comics in Dallas. Jeremy has been instrumental in making my habit worse over time and there are a few of my co-workers that he milks as well.:D
