Wow, I'm the first to give a shout out for this massive holiday?

Wondering if we don't all need to start paying a little more respect to our neighbor to the south?

Happy Indie Day Mexico.

You know what's strange.....at the Post Office, we recognize February as Black History Month and have special speakers out to inform us about certain aspects of black history....but...today....there wasn't one single mention, from management, about Cinco de Mayo...yet the racial breakdown is about 3 or 4 to 1, Hispanic to Black now....isn't it?

I find that to be very strange.

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday for people who come illegally into the country?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo

It's to celebrate the Battle of Puebla, not illegals. It's not an official holiday in the United States but people celebrate it in Texas because if you didn't already know, Texas used to be a part of Mexico....so Mexican history is here to stay and be celebrated. If you don't like it move to New York or something. But then I'm sure they would have holidays you wouldn't agree with there.

Little Bit of Unknown History
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico, but as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg, sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko De Mayo.

maybe la palma, rangerville and a few others but the majority of san benito (i.e el ranchito, los indios, la hermosa, la gallina, la paloma ect.) are closer to brownsville.

it's okay, harlingen was at it's prime in the 90's. now it's shifting to browntown, and the LF/SPI way. this is pretty obvious considering that a hopeful new dodge arena in the southern valley is gonna go somewhere between those two areas.

like i said, we embrace it. yall are still in shock.
