Wow - what a day for quotes.

Sheryl Swoopes announces she's gay....Tommy Turbeville, head coach of Auburn, says ESPN has a bias against SEC football and ESPN is pushing for a UT/USC match-up....Phil Garner says his team stunk last night and, now...

Fisher DeBerry, head coach at Air Force, may be fired in the next 2-3 hours because he said.

"I like the way Afro-Americans run, we need more kids like that on our team."

These comments were made after TCU drilled Air Force this weekend.

i havent heard any of these quotes, so when he said Afro, was he refering to hair, or race?

Race.. what he said did not cross any "lines".

That was his idea of a very unhip way to say African American. Press conference is over and DeBerry keeps his job as coach at Air Force, but is reprimanded for his "insensitive" comments.

I think it was more the WAY he said it, than what he said. Most are saying he said it in a very insensitive way - making a blanket assumption that any black guy is faster than his white guys. You may recall Paul Hornung (sp) got in trouble a while back for saying the same thing about Notre Dame. Apparently Charlie Weiss was not listening that his team was slow.
