Do you believe that video games can have any negative effects on a child's mind while growing, and that video games can be responsible for incidents like columbine or at least influenced.
thoughts would be greatly appreciated since i do need more insight and others perspectives for my research paper.

atari never did nothing to me.:D
seriously, i don't have a problem with videogames. They are so advanced these days, many are quite thought provoking and build problem solving skills. I have a HUGE problem with parents these days. Strange as it may seem, kids will do what you expect of them. Sadly, many parents just use the games as a babysitter, as long as the kids are quiet. The kids meet the low expectations that the parents have for them.
i don't believe music, videogames, or other media are to blame near as much as the examples kids are given from their parents at home.
I get pretty miffed when folks try to blame their own innadequacies on videogames.

In general, no, they are pure entertainment.
However, I think that some games that are designed to invoke raw emotions can negatively reinforce the destructive thoughts of some troubled youths....certainly the exception though and not the rule.

I don't think they have a negative effect so long as they're not going overboard and playing for hours and hours on end. Kids need exercise and fresh air!

Sure they can, but that depends on a multitude of factors. How is this child being raised? I think the overall environment of the child is the biggest factor.
From a psychological point of view, just about anything can tip the balance. It might be a video game, a movie, a CD, a painting, a person, etc., etc. I heard just about everything following Columbine and VA Tech. Ultimately, it comes down to the human being. We all make choices as individuals, consciously and/or subconsciously, that determine our reality.
As long as you don't allow the video game to be the parent....it's exactly what it is....a game.
