Look's like San Antonio had a good run back in the 60's.

Coach of those teams at South San went on to have a pretty fair career at the University of Texas. Cliff Gustafson. He and those teams were honored at South San this past Tuesday night. No other team has been that successful.

You bet they did. They've torn up the 3A bracket.

I would have been nice to have found rosters for those teams to see how many players moved on in the game.

Don't get ahead of yourself...I seem to recall Klein Collins who was #2 getting upset by Cy-Fair, who finished the season on a 27 game winning streak.

Also, Coach Woody Champagne just earned his 500th win recently, congrats to him.

Good stuff- I miss the old Baseball board we use to have.

I'm surprised to not see Flower Mound listed at all. I realize the community is newer than others, but they have had a strong program. That's how tough it is to win that last game, I guess. Did they ever get to the finals?

My first experience of Tx HS baseball play-offs was 5 years ago, for a game at Southlake in May. Parking lot is packed as I pull in. I'm thinking, Wow!
As I walk up to the gate, I then realize where all the people are... they're lined up behind the field against the fence watching Spring Football practice. Good grief!

yeah, what's the old saying? in texas there are 3 seasons, fall football, spring football, and off-season. we were actually trying to multi-task in every way possible. there was likely a softball game to keep up with too.

The back-to-back state champion teams that Cooper fielded in the late 80's were fun to watch. One of the members of those teams, Scotty Pugh, is being inducted into the Big Country Sports Hall of Fame Monday night in Abilene.

Good job Scotty!

Good job Scotty!

Scotty Pugh also played in a high school All-Star game in the Astrodome and hit a home run in it. Didn't those teams have a like 23 game streak without a single error?

Scotty Pugh also played in a high school All-Star game in the Astrodome and hit a home run in it. Didn't those teams have a like 23 game streak without a single error?

I don't remember about the error streak, but it wouldn't surprise me. The state semifinal game against Galena Park North Shore in 1987 was one of the best high school baseball games I have EVER seen. Cooper won, 1-0. Robert McAdams' diving catch late in the game was one you could watch over and over and wonder how he caught it! :D

Coach of those teams at South San went on to have a pretty fair career at the University of Texas. Cliff Gustafson. He and those teams were honored at South San this past Tuesday night. No other team has been that successful. Thanks' for the info DJ.:D

Thanks for the HARDBALL THREAD !
The 1971 and 1972 games between Bellaire and Lubbock Monterrey were classic. ( Check the scores !!!) We had Gideon on the Hill for us and they had Donnie Moore on the Hill. Most of The Cardinals Crowns came with Ray Knoblach at the helm. Hell of a coach and a Hell of a man. Fond memories. It is a shame about Donnie Moore.
