Thats an interesting match up. they are pretty much on par as far as offense goes. But their defense is better then Ike's.
Still have IKE by 7pts.

Im also glad that Thorne will finally be getting ride of that horrendous astro-turf field and put in some Play-Safe Truf. so no homefield advantage occurs for any team at either location...its almost as if every game is a home game.

First time since '99-no Lufkin-Ike game. This would be a better test for the Pack than the annual beatdown of Nacogdoches.

Too bad Ike isn't on Judson's schedule. That's been a fantastic rivalry.

No less than 4 really good games on that schedule with the first two games coming against two highly ranked teams.

Ike's gonna be scary next year... Dont want to run into them in the playoffs... They have so much talent at WR, QB, RB, DL, and DB (they arent bad at LB either)... glad yall left our district lol - we actually have a chance at the district title this year because yall left

I think that they are rather weak at DL positions and LB. Its one of the reason why they are horrendous against teams who are committed to running. Teams that were good at running, ran at will against IKE. if they can fix the DL's...they have a shot of just being Top 5 scary.

Jay Guy and Rod Davis are/were weak at DT?

Jay Guy and Rod Davis are/were weak at DT?
Yes. Rod Davis was a tremendous talent when he was facing off against Power I teams..he was able to clog up the running lanes...But against teams that ran mainly out of a spread, he was to slow to play the sideline to sideline game. He was entirely to heavy, and it showed.
And to date, Guy is a big pushover.... I think he played on varsity a year to early, he also could loose about 20-25lbs.
We ran for 200 yards against IKE, and our line had 1 returning starter.... for the most part, we controlled the line of scrimmage against a much bigger DL compared to our OL.

Glad to see Big Ike back. Hope you have a great year, except for that second game. Thorne is a good place to watch a game. Good to see it getting some improvements. It's better for the players. The new turfs have cut down on knee injuries. I still remember the first Ike game I saw. You guys wear my old college colors, and you looked like a college team that night. This was 93 or 94. Your kicker that night hit a 55 yrd field goal. You were playing Kingwood and they were running some form of the old school wingT. It was fun. You beat em pretty good that night.

Davis was not a big factor against Stratford last fall.....
but almost everyone else was, and they're all coming back for 2008. I predict Ike is going to give North Shore a great ballgame next year.

Ever since I have been a BIG IKE fan, the defensive ends and tackles have never been asked to play sideline to sideline. Their primary duty was always to plug the middle and keep the offensive line off the linebackers. Except for recently, IKE's linebackers have always been extremely fast! Linebackers like Derrick Busby, Dorian Newell, and many others were typical IKE linebackers, FAST, FAST, FAST, and awesome open field tacklers. Typically, they were 5'-9" to 6'-0" weighing about 190 to 200 pounds. Without the middle to worry about, the LBs ran down the running backs or the backs ran out of bounds before gaining significant yardage.
Although the D-Line surely could have played better, the primary problem with IKE stopping the running game the last few years is not so much the defensive line but the linebackers not having the same speed as before. I do expect IKE will show great improvement on the defensive line with two all-district performers returning (1 DT and 1 DE) in 2008. I believe three starting defensive backs return including Craig Loston, arguably the best DB in Texas in 2008. All the starting linebackers from 07 will need to be replaced. If the Eagles can find three with talent and speed anywhere close to those earlier IKE teams, the defense should be certainly okay.
Now, the offense should be AWESOME! But, I think everyone knows that.

Ike has never has a jaw dropping defense, but they have always had a physical one. Upfront just didn't seem to have the same push and intensity as years passed.
Either way, i think IKE will be great...Their offense is outstanding, and i am looking forward to playing them for what i will presume to be the battle for the first place spot.

The swoop was back last season when I said they were gonna run through the district. Nothing should change this year either. The Spring Branch district and Lufkin should consider themselves lucky.

You wanted nothing to do with them last season. Now you want to go to a game. Stick with your Katy Tigers buddy. You don't have a reserved seat on the bandwagon.

:confused: maybe I wanted to see Hightower...... My diploma says Ike.....but oh well......nevermind:cool:..I guess me being a graduate of Ike I'm supposed to pick them to win every game.....I thought Cy-Ridge would beat them....and they did so I guess that translates to "Wanting nothing to do with them"

And the Airplanes taking off from Bush Intercontinental right over ur head :D... It really is a pretty good stadium though

Davis is a run stopper... I mean the guy is massive... Hes not the best pass rushing DT but thats probably y he wasnt a factor

They didn't have a run defense. it was their biggest weakness of defense. pass defense, you would struggle to find a better one across the state.
as for Thorne. its a great stadium...and will be better with the new turf.
Turner Stadium is also getting redone. when is the question though. The are voting on the bond on may 10th. if approved i imagine it would be over the summer or next summer.
