Look ahead if you want, but it might cost you.

District 5-5A

CARROLL (8-0, 5-0)

Playoff outlook: They're in

Key win(s): Denton Ryan (41-0), Colleyville Heritage (59-28)

Comment: The Dragons are primed to win the District 5-5A title but must defeat Grapevine (5-3, 4-1) Friday. If Grapevine and Denton Ryan get the other playoff berths, look for Carroll to move up to the Division I bracket for the first time.

DENTON RYAN (6-2, 4-1)

Playoff outlook: Good, but not solid

Key win(s): Colleyville Heritage (28-14)

Comment: Denton Ryan should get the No. 2 seed, but watch out for the finale against Fossil Ridge, which could be a potential upset.

GRAPEVINE (5-3, 4-1)

Playoff outlook: Good, but not solid

Key win(s): Fossil Ridge (45-38)

Comment: It's this simple for the Mustangs -- win one more, and they're in.

FOSSIL RIDGE (4-4, 3-2)

Playoff outlook: Have a pulse

Key win(s): Colleyville Heritage (37-27)

Comment: The Panthers must win out and need Grapevine to lose out.

COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE (5-3, 2-3)

Playoff outlook: Praying for a miracle

Key win(s): Haltom (24-19)

Comment: Colleyville Heritage must win out, then need Grapevine and Fossil Ridge to lose out to force a tiebreaker.

District 6-5A

TRINITY (8-0, 5-0)

Playoff outlook: They're in

Key win(s): Nimitz (48-21), Irving (50-14)

Comment: The district title is theirs with victories over South Grand Prairie and Irving MacArthur.

Key dates

FRIDAY

Carroll vs. Grapevine, Mustang/Panther Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Trinity vs. SGP, Pennington Field, 7:30 p.m.

NOV. 4

Fossil Ridge vs. Denton Ryan, Keller ISD Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Grapevine vs. Colleyville Heritage, Mustang/Panther Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Trinity vs. MacArthur, Irving Schools Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

The final ruling

Here is the tiebreaker formula in the event teams in District 5-5A finish in a tie:

First tiebreaker will be head-to-head records with the teams involved in a tie.

The second tiebreaker is net points from the district season (total points minus points allowed), with a 14-point cap per game. If the teams are still tied, head-to-head results are used.

Third tiebreaker is the teams' records against other district teams not involved in the tie.

Fourth tiebreaker is a coin-flip.

This is wrong. It is not net points it is Positive pts w/ a 14 pt cap.

And for Heritage it is not much of a miracle they are hoping on GHS plays SLC then them. So very feasible for GHS to lose out. And I would say DR is better than FR so Ridges loss is a likely outcome. Heritage plays Keller and should beat them. Thus It comes down to Heritage beating GV by at least 11pts. Very well could happen and no miracles have to happen.

if dr beats fridge and chhs beats gv, the wouldn't the tie be settled by head to head between gv and chhs. if it's a 3 way, then positive pts favors fridge.

I say let all the head coaches meet at IHOP for a coin flip.

Assuming SLC beats GV and none of the non-playoff contenders (Keller, Richland, Haltom) pull upsets the rest of the way, GV cannot make the playoffs if it loses to CH. In such case, GV would either 1) be involved in a 3-way tie for 3rd @ 4-3 with CH and FR (if DR beats FR) or 2) finish in 4th outright @ 4-3 behind DR and FR @ 5-2 (if FR beats DR). If the case of #1, GV cannot win on positive points b/c they only have +7 (courtesy of its win over FR) and FR already has +10 (courtesy of its win over CH). The 3rd spot would go to either CH or FR, depending on how many positive points Heritage obtains from its victory over GV.

If GV wins:
1. GV makes the playoffs if DR beats FR.
2. If FR beats DR, there is a 3-way tie for 2nd @ 5-2 (and hence the final TWO playoff spots) between DR, GV, and FR. DR has +14 positive points from its win over GV. GV has +7 from its win over FR. FR's positive points would be determined by its margin of victory over DR. Therefore, DR would be in, and the other spot would go to FR if it beats DR by 8 or more (since only 7 would tie it with GV in terms of positive points and GV would win based on the H2H victory over FR). GV would get the last spot if FR beats DR by 7 or less. Seeding is irrelevant b/c in order for SLC to go D2, all that matters is that KFR or CH make the playoffs, regardless of seed.

Therefore:
1. For GV to make the playoffs (along with DR) and force SLC to D1, GV must a) beat CH AND have one of the following two things happen: a) DR beats FR or b) FR beats DR by 7 or less.
2. GV is out and SLC goes D2 if a) CH beats GV OR FR beats DR by 8 or more.

Summed up nicely (and originally) on this thread:

Trinity's game with MAC is on Thursday night at 7:00 at Irving schools stadium. That's why alot of us Trinity folk are going to the CH/GV game.

How does positive points work? Isn't KFR still in the picture? KFR should beat Richland Friday and probably lose to DR. If Heritage beats Keller and GV then KFR, GV and Heritage are all 4-3 in district.
