Folks, time to put your thinking caps on and weigh in on how you think the district will go and specifically, TWHS:

Conroe
Oakridge
TWHS
College Park
Lufkin
New Caney

I'm hearing a lot of changes are potential at TWHS: new offensive scheme; they may not use a tight end (that's new?), different defensive scheme (take advantage of broader speed?). We've got lots of returning players, what I'm also hearing is the offseason work has been hard, focused and the coaches / team are very focused. Strength and conditioning has improved, speed is up.

So, the poll is...how far will TWHS go???? and why?

I think everyone is underestimating TWHS at this point. TW has at least half a dozen players that are at the top of the state ratings in strength and speed. However, that's not nearly as important as on-the-field performance. What people don't realize is that the team that's coming together this year has never lost a game since 8th grade...period. Let me explain:

The players that are now entering their senior year all played together from the 8th to the 10th grade but they were split up in the 11th grade; some on JV1 and some on Varsity. During that first 3 years of playing together, they rolled over ALL teams, including Lufkin, Katy, [insert team here]. Even while missing several key players that moved to Varsity, the JV1 team only lost one game last season.

That powerhouse team is back together again and stronger than ever. With the scheme changes in place, the addition of several up-and-coming stars, and the players at the top of their game both physically and mentally, there's no reason why they can't win state this year.

the key for twhs is to get a 1st rd matchup with somebody other than westfield. if they get westfield, we may get more of the same. one and done. if they win district, they should go at least 3 deep in the playoffs.

3 pt loss at the abe last year. they play at woodforest this year. anyway, lufkin goes d2 anyway. all twhs needs to do is get past conroe. i still think they win district with college park being the possible bugaboo because of the rivalry factor.

The key for TWHS is the offensive line. While they have a first team all-district and all region underclassman lineman in sophomore Chad Lindsay, you cannot expect him to block everybody. I saw this monster red headed kid in the mall a couple of weeks ago and I asked my daughter who that was and she said it was Chad Lindsay. Lindsay looks like a Pro football player. He is HUGE! If they can shore up four other players for the OL, TWHS will go deep into the playoffs and may go all the way. TWHS' QB, RB, WR, and all of the defense is outstanding and deep with talent, but the big concern is the OL. OL will make or break this team.:):notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

With all due respect for TWHS, when did you forget that lufkin is still in your district. Before you start talking District champs and what not you might want to start out by trying to figure out how to beat the pack. Play one game at a time. When was the last time lufkin lost a distict game??? '02 i think??? If you can put up numbers on the pack then ill start talking about you guys going further. Until then i vote one and done. Maybe second round.

lufkin were asking the same question before the klein forest game last year. 'when was the last time lp lost to a houston team?' streaks always get broken.

Lufkin is the only 5A school within 80 mile radius, Plus the only school in Lufkin in with makes a big difference. It do help being a football town, that's bigger than the avg. town and still smaller than a city.

sweetpea, Lufkin is good. But im not sure alot of their players that or on the "beach" (im not say none would but not alot) would start at other schools.....unless you are talking about school like magnolia and such, lufkin will be good TWHS will probably be good and same with Conroe.......if i were yall i wouldnt be worried at all....but you might want to think about getting off your high horse and back to reality because yall havent won a championship in about 7 years

#1. We are not on any high horse. Were just calling it like we see it. The pack hasnt lost a district game since the old east texas district got disbanded.

#2. 3 of those seven years we were stopped by one school. SLC. 2 times we lost by 7 points or less. The first time was my senior year, where we lost by 3 in a HIGHLY contested game to say the least.

When the last time TWHS made any decent noise in texas. You supposedly have a stacked team this year yet you forget that Lufkin, as is stated all over the boards, doesnt rebuild. We reload. If you guys are as good as the hype then it should be a great game. but come game time ill tell you this and this alone...."Put up or shut up"

My only point is that until Lufkin loses a district 14-5A game, I severely question the sanity of anyone that would pick another team as the prospective champion. It's not as if anyone else has a powerhouse team coming back with a bunch of D1 studs on it, so I just laugh when someone mentions a District Championship for anyone other than the Pack. i didn't say TWHS wouldn't make the POs. They should indeed be there.

Facts are Facts, Until any team in 14-5A unseat Lp , you have to give them their props.

Everybody talking about what they are doing , Lp is going back to what got them to the 3rd round. Outlaw, knows what to do with the players up there. You never look @ JV or scrimages, because it will never tell you nothing , until the 1st - 3rd game with Lufkin.;)

This season is going to be fun! :eek:Win or go home and shut up. :D

I really like the Lufkin fans and their team spirit but I must question the statements I hear from some of you.

What exactly does "we don't rebuild, we reload" mean? Is that some sort of reference to gun violence? If so, that's not a very sportsman-like attitude. This is an exhibition of team performance and ability...not violence.

The other mantra that I question is "tradition never graduates." The response that I've heard from some people is "that's because their players don't, either." Those aren't my words so, once you're reloaded, don't shoot the messenger.

The one statement I firmly believe in is "put up or shut up." Until TWHS turns the tables on Lufkin, they'll get all the respect they deserve. :notworthy

Most teams after a good grad class, have to rebuild the team to get back to where they where. Re-load means that alot of soph. are already on the team, and there because they could help the team , otherwise they would be on JV. So, they fit in those spots that the grad. class has left a hole.

Reggie, Mcfarland, etc.'s where on the team their 9th grade year. That's where Tradition Never Graduate ! comes from. Alot of kids end up being 4 year letterman.

Why doesn't Lufkin post their on thread asking how far they are going to go! It seems every time someone post a thread for another team in this district, Lufkin fans want to try and make a point regarding football. Who kicks everyone in the district in all sports each year? The Woodlands. I don't live in The Woodlands, but their overall athletics are untouchable by any other team in your district. Lufkin embellishes their football, and that is fine. But remember, you were not always on top and you want always be on top in football.

No Lp fan, has never said any thing bad about the woodlands!

I for 1 truly hope that 14-5A can bring Div.1 and 2 championships to the district. Yes, Lp has own the district in Football, and yes The Woodlands have done great in all sports. I will say that the district has made us bring other sports up to a new level.

I think that 14-5A has been good to Lp, as Lp has been to the district! I feel that with help from each other in pushing every team to another Level, I feel that we can bring a ton of trophys to the district!

...except in 2007 where CP were ahead of The Woodlands in 3 of the 4 major team sports. I think we have a legit argument for being just as good if not better than TWHS this year. At least in the sports that matter most.

I agree. Lufkin has been good for our district in so many ways. Not only do they push everybody else to be better in football, they also have great fans and great fine arts programs they can be truly proud of. The hospitality and friendship their band and drill team extended to our kids during our visit last year speaks volumes for their overall class.

:D Oh my goodness!!!
I love the pack fans, they know the game, they know how to coach the game they love their kids. I posted that I really enjoyed sitting with them in last years game, great fans, great group.
CP, what can we say. If there were stats kept on start up high schools, you guys would have be in the top nationally, similar to the pack, know the game(s), etc.

BUT, I put this thread out there about TWHS potential for the coming year. If someone wants to post a CP or Lufkin poll, great but please don't misunderstand the difference between comments of who will win district vs. how far TWHS will go in the playoffs.

That being said, I'm pretty sure TWHS will make the playoffs and should have a much better record than last year (for many reasons). I really look forward to the district, rematches with Lufkin, CP, Conroe, will all go toward how far the program could go in the playoffs. In the meantime....vote!

fballmaniac

I was out there Tuesday watching the team. Offensively, they are now a spread offense. A lot of quality receivers. Quarterback currently is McCloud, but I hae a feeling Eastman will be your QB come August. Reason is simple - bigger, stronger arm and can run the ball. McCloud does not run the ball well so I do not think he will be starting QB. OLine looks pretty good with Lindsay back at guard and Roberge at center. Norton and Siebel make up the right guard and tackle. Question is the left tackle. Need to find a good left tackle.

Defense is aggressive and tough. Ten starters returning. They will be tough to score on this year. Linebackers are strong and deep running the 3-4-4. TWHS is 3 deep at each linebacker position and any of the first eight could be starters.

I think TWHS will be under estimated early in the season and that is a good thing as they do not deserve respect they will have to earn it.

PantherFan2002
05-01-2008, 09:20 AM
How is Eastman's arm and accuracy compaired to McCloud's? Could be a factor in who starts come august. Especially if its a full out spread. Next question is you said that McCloud doesnt run. Is this because he isnt fast or he doesnt get the conceipt of tuck and run when noones open. And yes thats a serious question. Pocket passers arnt a bad thing in the spread as long as his o'line does its job.

From what I understand McCloud is a Dual Threat QB ?

I don't know what is going on I guess ?

Does anyone know how many fans the Woodforest Stadium is gonna hold ?

McCloud is a classic pocket QB; not a dual threat. He is very east-west mobile but not so much straight ahead.

From what I understand (http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=1151), Woodforest seats 9600.
