I have grown up in the AISD district and have attended many games at Thorne stadium. Aldines National Championship, Ike’s run through the playoffs in the 90’s, the great rivalries, and all the great players. Things have changed; I am tired of hearing about the lack or loss of athletes in AISD. You can go to Thorne on any given Friday or Sat. and see a number of great athletes. I think the difference has to do more with who is running the athletic department. Aldine used to be considered one of the most respected districts in the state and now there have even been references of AISD becoming like some other districts in this area. What happened? Several years ago there was a change in athletic directors; since the change the athletic department has become a good ole boy department. The best coaching applicants haven’t always gotten the job (no offense to the current coaches). The district has numerous PVU Alums, friends of friends in high positions ect…ect… It is no longer what is good for the athletes but what is good for a certain individuals. AISD can survive this as soon as people open their eye’s and realize the problem is not with the lack or loss of athletes.

He's talking about Aldine ISD. Everyone knows Austin ISD football is awful, and has been for a while. No surprize there.

I have to agree; House Park has insufficient parking accomodations. Why does a 2000-3000 seat stadium even exist for them. They should just donate it to make it a Pee-Wee football stadium. :p (Or realistically speaking, just replace that stadium with at least an 8000 seat stadium or so).
Thought you meant Alief, another once proud district that has fallen even lower than Aldine. Sad to see! :(

I went to the Aldine v. IKE game on Friday, and was actually shocked at the fan support still there for both teams. Ike looked like it was almost sold out and Aldine had about 2/3 of their side full. Both teams are really struggling this year. It is actually a suprise to see MacArthur up there again. I have to agree that the coaching staff changes have really effected AISD and Aldine and IKE in particular. Last season was the first year that someone other than Bill Smith or who was under Bill Smith led both Aldine and IKE. It is sad to see, as I have been following Aldine football since 88, and seen them go from way up top in 90, to down low in 94, back up in 96 and back down these last two years. Hopefully it is just a phase, and it will pass soon. I don't think that it helps we are in a district with the Spring Branch schools. No offense, but the only one that really has a good team year in and year out is Memorial. Stratford finally beat Aldine for the first time this year, and that was because Aldine's coach mad a BAD decision in OT. Northbrook and Spring Woods are just pitiful at football, but good at other sports. The good thing is this year their still will be two Aldine schools in the playoffs, but instead of Aldine and IKE or IKE and Nimitz, it is going to be MacArthur and Nimitz.

See, I thought he was talking about Amarillo or was it Anahuac! You can never use Anahuac enough and it's hard to do. :D
Towns go through cycles and Aldine might be back. I think Judson scared 'em off, Big Ike! :D :p

Aldine is just like Alief in that it is not a town. It is unincorporated area that once held township qualities. Both areas seem to lack the sense of community that provides the support needed for a HS football program. I will be at Alief Crump stadium next weekend. There will be a poor showing of Taylor fans even though they defeated Katy last year. The visitor's side will be filled to capacity and it will take 45 minutes to get a soda from the concession.
30 years ago, Aldine had that support. It takes more than just a good coach or a great player to make a great program. It takes a team effort from the community as a whole.
I started watching Tiger football in '95 when I moved to Katy. I haven't had a kid on the team since 2002. I still don't miss a game.
