So far, Berkner's looking pretty good- not much of a passing game, but great rushing. I know they haven't faced any truly great teams yet, but how do you guys think they'll match up late in the playoffs (3rd rnd.)?

Will win games until you get up against a team that passes like crazy and has a half way presentable defense. Then, you're gonna be screwed. A good pass team will not let you control the clock by running. Once they make you punt a few times, it's over.

For years? You obviously weren't around in the 2002/2003 8-5A district when Berkner was with Allen and Plano East. I think they barely slipped into the playoffs in 2003.

Lake Highlands has won state with all those teams in place. Garland won in '99 with 6 schools in the district. Mesquite won with 4 schools in the district. Allen has never won state.

SLC is one of the smallest 5A schools. In our district we are the 5th largest school. The only way SLC goes Div 1 is if the other 2 smaller schools make the playoffs. (what does that say for the large population schools?) Just because you are the largest population school does not mean that you will win.

In Oakcliff, we have Carter, Kimball, SOC,and the suburban schools like Duncanville, Desoto, Lancaster, all six schools in about a five mile radius of each other. It is no excuse. Everywhere you go population is bringing in more schools. I would love to see those teams combine, but it won't happen. Play the the game with the cards that were dealt.

And they haven't missed the playoffs since. Fact of the matter is, everyone knows what they are. They run the ball and play decent defense. I agree when they run into a really good team (i.e. Tylere Lee last year) they will more than likely lose. But I don't see that happening until at least the 3rd round when (based on projections) would more than likely be A&M Consolidated, The Woodlands, or Austin Westlake. My personal opinion is, that they will beat Rowlett or Rockwall. Maybe not, but in my opinion they will.

SLC has one of the smallest schools 5A schools in the area. Their is no advantage that carroll has by having one school in the town. Carroll is at a disadvantage to most of the 5A schools in the state by having a lot less students

well SLC junior highs go to one high school and run the same playbooks. For Berkner, we had 3 junior highs, Apollo, Liberty, and Richardson. Many of our students even went to Magnet schools around us such as West. When high school came, most of apollo and liberty went to berkner, while the richardson jr high students could decide if they wanted to go to richardson or berkner. We had a hard time getting ALL the talent there was around our area until Ledford came as our coach. The athletes we have are as good as any other school, especially considering what we have available for them. I use to like Garland, but now since I met you guys I want yall to lose in the first round. And i hope you feel the same way. If only yall were in division 1, we could maybe play yall lol and show yall what we are about. But thats not goin to happen.

Yep, Ike Diogu was drafted 8th overall and is a monster. Was a great basketball player at GARLAND HIGH, as were the very talented NBA guard, Mookie Blaylock, and the twice elected NBA 6th Man of the Year and 3 time NBA All-Star, Ricky Pierce.

Carroll will go DI, but Berkner won't play them because I doubt Berkner will win the region.

Berkner has an enrollment of 4000. Carroll has an enrollment of 2200. Berkner has TWO junior high schools (RJHS has closed). Carroll has one. But since Berkner is twice as big, that makes sense. And students couldn't choose their school at RJHS...their high school was based on the elementary school that they went to.

Berkner has more students. They should be better. But they aren't. There is no way you can claim to be as good as Carroll.

No, it's worse than Plano...they play DISD. As the only good FB program in 5A from DISD is the smallest in the district, Berkner shouldn't have any challenge from Skyline. However, the Rockwall/Rowlett winner could prove tricky.

- a rating of one is the highest rating possible in UIL competition. Good job to
the SLC band.
- Berkner's band does have a strong history of excellence, and is a state-finals regular. Not everything this guy says is through rose-colored glasses.
- Berkner is a very talented team stuck in a very weak district. Nothing more can be deduced from these facts alone. Paper is just that, paper. Thats why the games are played; on any given Friday.
