So....who finishes second to Tiger at Augusta this week? Let's discuss.
My top 5 in random order.
Geoff Oglivy - Is playing better than anyone other than Tiger right now. This guy could definitely win.
Phil Mickelson - He's playing ok, but can close the gap on this course quickly. Wouldn't surprise me to see him finish second. :)
Hunter Mahan - Still one of the best young American player right now. He's won, and has other top 5's. Beautiful swing.
Sergio Garcia - Has played very well at times, but still doesn't win real often. I think Sergio has a good week.
Padraig Harrington - British Open champ plays well in majors - period.
My hunch is Tiger wins by 4. The weather COULD be a factor - as current forecasts are for a cold, wet weekend - like last year. Tiger does not play well typically in cold weather outside of the UK.

i like cink and furyk. both are steady, and both have won before. in today's golf world, coming in second to tiger is about as close as one can come to a moral victory.

DD - I agree they play well, but I think Cink's Sunday collapse when he had the lead earlier this year is messin' with his mind right now. Furyk could win it if scores drift up to par or around it. The dude will be around the hunt - and, yeah, probably the hunt for the second place jacket - I think it's a windbreaker.

since they are playing for 2nd, the collapse won't be as devastating. furyk isn't long, but he can throw some short numbers.

I'm not a gambler - and I dang sure hope this isn't against the law - but here's a fun-looking site:
www.masterspool.net
You can develop a "team" of (I think) 6 golfers and enter into a pool for $26. Each golfer is assigned a "salary number" and you can't go beyond a certain total. So, if you pick Tiger and Lefty -then you also need to throw in, say, Raymond Floyd. No idea what the payout is - but our local ESPN radio personality says "it is legit".
If you see ol' Favpack's name on there later this week you know I found some loose change in my couch cushions.

You know it's true. I don't like him....
I was "that guy" at the Colonial a few years back....very drunk...and Sergio refused a margarita I offered him after he was done playing. Eventhough he signed my hat I was still offended that he didn't accept my margarita. :D

The guy that gave me the link also likes Justin Rose - he was in the hunt late last year on Sunday - or was it two years ago?

He's played solid at Augusta for a few years now. He's had the overnight lead on 3 different occasions.

Tiger is even par through 8 today. Write this down....
Tiger WILL NOT win if he can't get below par today. Too many players in front of him - 15 - that's too many to overcome. He needs to get to -2 today, and hope the field comes back to -6 or so for the final score.

How is that too many people? While Tiger is playing his best golf on Sunday a lot of those in front of him will be choking away their chance at a win. The field will come back to Tiger as he approaches them...wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

He's +1 now, so, it's like 18 folks. That's a lot of golfers to get past. You think 14-18 guys ALL come back? Well, bottom line is he better flip the switch very soon.

Well boys, just got back from Augusta and watching the opening round of the masters. OUTSTANDING and extremely well run tournament. It was cool watching Arnold Palmer do the ceremonial first drive Thursday morning. We sat behind the first green (about 30 feet from the pin) most of the morning until Tigers group came through. Only one birdie on that hole while we were there and that was Johnson. Man that guy is a jerk IMO. It was fun watching Fuzzy and Ben Crenshaw and even Gary Player who is as old as dirt but still playing. The new young players on the tour can really crush the ball. Augusta National was as beautiful and immaculate as I had heard and recommend that if you ever get the opportunity to go, don't miss out. Actually seeing Amen corner in person and walking on those fairways.........:notworthy:notworthy not a pine needle out of place. Spent a ton of money in the pro shop but this was probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. I could ramble on but I will stop here because I am just worn out.:D

Looks to be Immelman's tournament. Tiger had a chance to gain 2 strokes on him. Immelman ended up saving par on 11 on a long putt. And Tiger missed a sitter birdie putt on 13. Tiger still 5 back. Could have been 3.

If Tiger makes 1 or 2 more putts this whole thing turns out different. Of course my dad used to tell me "you drive for show and putt for dough" and the 5-7 foot putts certainly did Tiger in this weekend. I believe this is his 5th second place finish in a major.
Of course, Jack Nicklaus finished 2nd in 14 majors, so I guess Tiger is still in good company.
On the other hand, Immelman played terrific golf most of the day, barring when he found the pnd on 16...I realize he was playing with a comfortable lead throughout most of Sunday but you have to hand it to him for not cracking under the wind conditions and such. His pairing on Sunday (Sneadaker sp?) shot something like 8+ after an Eagle on #2 but Trevor kept his composure and played his game. Congrats to Mr. Immelman.

tiger appeared to have been using my putting stroke the whole tourney. to play as mediocre as he appeared, and still finish 2nd is a testiment to his level of skill. trevor is a cool story and deserved the jacket. i bet tiger threw his windbreaker in the first trashcan he had the energy to find. man he looked beat. i think the ptb at a-n have over-tricked the course. almost unfair. i can't imagine brealing 120 myself.

Yeah, they thought they could "Tiger Proof" the course and all it does it make it tougher for other golfers to compete, IMO.
Also, did you see the way he reacted after making his final putt on 18? It was almost as if he was asking "where has that been all week?" I can't feel bad for him since I know he took home a nice check and all, but even after such poor putting he seemed very graceful in defeat.

I noticed his gesture after the birdie on 18. It was as if he was saying "now you go in".....
