I wa just reading comments on mySA.com's sports section and posted by a DiamondJ himself:

Judson track teams off to great start---as usual. Rockets again will dominate San Antonio, 26-5A and probably Region IV again. Don't you know that NEISD schools are happy that the Rockets won't be in their district for the next two years. It will allow some other school to win the district track meet, but, of course, they still have to lose, er, face the Rockets at Regionals.
I think Regionals is at Alamo Stadium Saturday I'm not sure!

Hey SMC020, I remember Phillip now from the Live Oak Jaguar's! He is a year older than my son but they played together most of time. He sure could run! Tim Stone - on offense he used to block for Phillip but he played mostly defensive line (nose guard). He was always getting sacks. He was such a good kid back then. He would do exactly as he was told - coaches taught him well. Now he is teenager-aggggh. I used to be so proud when the crowd would yell "good job Stone" after a sack or good tackle. His last year he made the city TYFA All-Star team. Man he hit hard. I was always afraid he was going to break his neck when he lead with his helmet to shoot the gap. He hurt his knee when we were playing Randolph, if you remember that horrible game where they had that tall RB, who looked like he was old enough to buy beer, that nobody could tackle.

Yes.........I know Tim and remember him from Live Oak. I'm glad he's with Judson:notworthy. I also remember the Randolph game. Phillip went to the hospital on a board with a neck brace because of trying to tackle that tall RB. His name is Garrett. He started playing with Wagner I think in his sophomore year and then he didn't play anymore. Not sure what he is doing but I believe he is graduating this year. The memories :)

The list that I posted earlier was taken from the active published roster of players from last year who started on the varsity and or received major minutes. We cant comment on players as to their impact at the varsity level because they have not completed at that level yet, however it can be said they have the potential.....to be an impact player.

BigB, I always want a varsity roster and you posted last year's, minus the graduating seniors, which I personally really appreciated. I hope we can get the player's heights this year. I asked my son to improve the roster, and with him being so busy in his teen life, grabbed the keyboard because I type too slow. He added some players that are practicing with the varsity right now (that have no numbers yet - and he doesn't know anyone's weight) and updated some position changes that were made for this year. I was hoping we could keep updating changes in order to maintain a working projected roster, that you started. As far as impact players go - well I think they all will play their hearts out. Historically, Judson doesn't seem to have a bunch of D1 prospect superstars but rather execute effectively as a team. I do hope more players get scholarships in the future than in past years. I think only five players got scholarships this year and the Rockets went all the way to the State Finals.

J-Rock Mom, I'm dissappointed to hear that you don't know of any returning players that started last year and will make an Impact this year. Elliot Hudson (FB), Chauncey Harris (TB), Erik Brown (CB), Phillip Gaines (CB), Chris McAllister (FB), Ameer Townes (T), William Thornton (DT/LB), Robert Shaw (RB/DB started half the season but will definetly make an impact) Courtland Tolbert (G). Forgive me if I left someone out, these 9 players started last year and played a big part in our run for being a finalist. Elliott- realy came into his own last year and matured into his role, Chris played several positions last year and spearheaded the front 7, Erik played well at DB during the season and picked it up in the playoffs with 2 picks and a TD, Ameer holds his own and Gaines while hurt half the season came back to prove he is a starter and all-area/state candidate. Mike Hillard I'm still waiting for you to recognize your full potential.......Anyone not familiar with these players didn't follow the Rockets at all last year. I'm new to the area 1.5yrs and I know who they are.

Say Bud I wouldn't disgrace Judson in any way that school has been in my family for about 30 yrs now... and Judson does have a great name in the state of TX. The only ones that give us a bad name are the people that try to be us and cant or the ones that hate on all that we have accomplished! Good to see that you care about our school, we had a lot of good fans during my senior yr ('02) then when we played for state and won when we got back to the field house I had never seen so many people waiting for us to come home to congratulate us...really cool site to see.

Some some it left when DW left back in 2001 but we kept it going...even though most of the coaching staff isnt the same as it was during the glory days doesnt mean its gone, it just means its changed a bit...Im glad to see Coach Soto will be running things while the Rack Dawg is outta commission and getting well...him being an Ex Rocket knows what it takes to win and knows how to bring the best out of each and everyone of those kids.

Friday night lights in SA is fun. I lived there the past 4 years before moving to DFW. DFW has too many teams to keep up with LOL....with traffic you have to leave to the stadium at 5pm just to get to the game on time....In SA I would leave at like 630 and get there in time LOL.

I do have to admit that the football up here is really good though as Judson found out last season against Trinity in the finals.

Oh yeah I give much credit to the programs in the DFW area...its a little difficult because when people are so used to seeing your team win its hard to realize that things are changing...new schools, newer schemes, better coaching, but I do have to admit that through all that has happened to the Rockets we have kept our poise and remained an elite team. I mean the last two times we went to state even though we came up short no one believed we would get there...thats the thing about a great program...whether or not we go 10-0 or 6-4 in the regular season we turn it up in the playoffs...i know my senior yr even though we went 9-1 and won district when we had our players meeting and saw all 4 trophy's on one table we got together and said we are going to add number 5! Or it could have been Coach Gibbens having all 4 rings on his hand and blinding the crap outta us!! LOL

I'm sure their rings are just as nice...its a cool thing to know that u are one of only a few that can say your school was the very best in ur class that yr...hats off to Katy and Trinity seen both teams live and both have great coaching and outstanding tradition...other than our pre-game warm-up i've never seen a better one than Katy's Mirror drill...dunno if they still do it or not...that was back in 99 when they played after we beat Eisenhower in the semi's in the astrodome...

The scary thing is usually the O dominates during spring ball and is the more dominating of the two up until the start of the season because with our system the D gets better week by week so if the D is already turning heads and its still April...I would watch out 27-5A

The spring game is up in the air because of a place to hold it. It has nothing to do with Coach Rackley being out. Yes, it could be held at Wagner or maybe on the Gray campus or heaven forbid the practice field. It's 50-50 right now.

It's 50-50 right now.I would just as soon have it down at East Central's Hornet Stadium to make sure we have enough seating, given that it could also be a venue dress rehearsal since I suspect both Judson and Wagner may need to go down there for the first few games this Fall. I'm having a high level of doubt, based on appearances at least, that the Rutledge Stadium facility can be ready in time

The Red/Gray game is scheduled for Friday, May 30TH. I wish someone knew where it's going to be played.

Some players think it may be held at the soccer fields with additional seating brought in for the crowd....This wouldn't be that bad at all!

The Judson Rocket Boys and Girls won the District 4 title today. There were several races that didn't quite go our way......I swore there was a curse on Judson during some of them :cry It was all good in the end...................... The Wagner boys showed out in the mile relay. They took second to Smithson Valley but their anchor Johnny Darrington was no joke in taking second. Both boy sprint relays (Judson and Wagner) are going to state. Judson boys took first in the 800 meter relay. The Judson girls sprint relay and mile relay are headed to state.

To keep yall updated! Alot of the students are pretty upset at Judson Admins right now (me included) We got a new dress code for next year and they are making it effective tomorrow!
We have to tuck in our shirts, wear collared shirts, wear a belt, and we can't have ipods/mp3 and/or cell phones!
It makes me mad that they took the freedoms from us! I got pretty mad when I found out about this. not everyone has a collar shirt and I'm not wanting to look like everyone else but it's like whatever. I wear a belt every day and I don't sag. I can't stand polos but I have to follow the rules. Thoughts on dress code?

Dress code isn't new. It is already in your student handbook for the 2007-08 school year. New superintendent wants to enforce it now, so students will adhere to it next year. Do I agree with enforcing it now? No. Not at the end of the year. As for the cell phones and ipods, sounds good to me. You can survive without the cell phones, it was done for many years. If there is an emergency, your parents can contact you through the school. As for ipods, just sing jrock210, but please don't sing out loud.

Well the cell phone I don't care about because i don't text anyways...sadly!
My Zune is the thing that keeps me alive at school cuz my teachers let us listen to them as long as they can't hear them...and when you already know what they are talking about in History and Math you pretty much have to dolisten to something else!

I think they should have informed parents better, I heard everything thru the grapevine nothing from the school. My son went to school today in his normal clothes that he has worn all year and I am not going out to pay him new clothes just for 24 days of school. If his gets sent to ISS then they will have hell to pay. I agree with the dress code from what I have heard and read here but not when there is 24 days left of school and they expect the parents to go out and pay more clothes... BULL SH!%

Students were given a letter on Friday to take home to parents and were informed the prior week about May 5. If the school has your correct phone number, you received 3 calls over the weekend informing you of the impending enforcement of the dress code. If your son does get placed in ISS, don't complain to the teacher, assistant principal or principal go directly to Central Office to see the Superintendent who made the decision to enforce the dress code at this time. Then when it comes time to vote for the two positions on the school board, voice your opinion again.

I survived HS without a cell phone and an ipod. I'm sure the students at Judson can do the same.

I don't agree with changing the dress code at the end of the school year though. That's kinda dumb. At least wait until this next school year to enforce something like that.

The high jump is going to be the best competition. Of the 8 boys who qualified 6 are tied for 1st place with a jump of 6' 8". Both of our boys Ned Cox and Isiah Clements are in that group!!

I have received calls in the past on previous issues but not about the dress code, This should not be inforced at the end of school (placed in ISS). You can't wait until the end of school and then create new rules. How would you like it if the day before you got paid your boss told you that your pay will be short and don't complain about it now you can vote on it later.

I didn't say I agreed with it which I don't. I was just giving out the information that was distributed by the school district. After today, we have a new school board member replacing the current president. Should be interesting with the new member. Let's see how they vote now on the dress code for next year.

Can't comment too much on the line....I just know the RBs were moving. I'll be able to go today so I'll make sure I check them out. The boys as a whole definitely put their best foot forward for all the college scouts that were out there :D That day UT, Mississippi State, Baylor, Northwestern and Arizona were there.

Stevie!!! You need to hit me up man when you get in town. Its been TOO long man.

Also Im gonna go ahead and post this here. I am organizing an Alumni Game for Judson against Highlands round 2. The other guy who ran it last time lost it 19-0. I have a decent roster built up and are looking for more Judson guys to join. Cost is about $70 and you get to keep the uni and helmet (exact replica). Game will be late July early August. Also to make sure we fill the roster, we are currently accepting applications to play with Judson from the following schools: Clemens, Roosevelt, Randolph, Wagner, Cole, East Central and any other school close to Judson. If anyone is interested go to the link in my signature. Thanks

I got to watch the team scrimmage today, during the "Athletic Period" at noon, in the middle of all the construction. I had tunnel vision on my son when the first team's were in, and was proud boy didn't let anyone on defense beat him out. He's quicker than I thought. There was two scouts watching intently but I couldn't figure out who they were looking at, except it was someone on the first team's. I talked to the Athletic Director today when I stopped in to ask about season tickets. I asked about the Red/Grey game location but they don't know yet. He said they just got the seating plans for the reserved section, and will send out letters to last year's season ticket holders; in a couple of weeks. He said the reserved section will have high-backed stadium style seats. I think he said their going to have more reserved seats, but now that I think about it, maybe he just said better seating.

Dont be telling that fool that. He cant play good with a big head. Gotta make him think everyone thinks he sucks... lol. Worked for two years for me in the sixman game. Also like to point out Judson Rockets have claimed 3 straight offensive POY awards for our league

Andre Williams got two and Frankie got one this year. Also the all-star roster for our league is has 3 JRock players out of 32. Frankie QB (2004), Aaron Caudell C (my bro and 2006) and Mike Rittenberry RB (2001 or 2002, gotta double check)

Ya I thought about that but here's another thought...students want to watch this game to and on the eve of finals we won't be able to. I've been to this game the last 2 years (since I've been going to Judson) and it's always fun to hang out and watch it. Since the lights is a problem move it to the soccer stadium. Plenty of freshmen games have been played on that field and it has lights so that would work! You could also play the game at 4 or 5 since it gets darker later now!

I just heard that the Red/Grey game will be based on some college intra squad scrimmage protocol. It's where the Offense plays the Defense instead of splitting up into two separate teams. Both the offense and the defense will score points based on a modified points system. The defense can score for sacks, 3-and-outs, and fourth-down stops, among other things. The offense can score in typical ways, but might also be awarded points for explosive plays, for example – runs of more than 12 yards and passes of more than 16 yards.
The scoring system for example, might give the offense one point each for a first down and an extra point; two for a play of 30 yards or longer; three for a field goal; and six for a touchdown.
The defense for example might earn one point for a forced punt; two each for a failed fourth-down conversion and a three-and-out; three for a turnover; and nine for a defensive score.
Anyone familiar with how this works? Is this good or bad? Do other schools utilize this type of scrimmage?

SV has a scrimmage as opposed to an actual game.Hill doesn't believe in it and feels more injuries can occur that way.No scoring system at all and it's held at noon during athletic period. It's hard to split up teams evenly and everyone knows what the other is doing anyway. When your going against yourself you aren't getting a true picture anyway.

When my teenager accidentally walked past me last night without any headphones or anything, I asked if he was going to be wearing red or white for the game Friday. That's when he told me the offense will scrimmage against the defense. I asked about special teams play and he didn't know. Then he disappeared to play video games, talk on the phone, etc......

Sounds like you have a typical teenager too there BigB? I could get an AL Qaeda terrorist to talk easier than I can a teenager.....

Except for the QB position, this team is stacked. In fact, this team has more returning talent than I have seen in probably the last 10 years at Judson. I wonder if this site is going to rank the Rockets in the pre-season poll....so far, we are at number 14 and no JR. I am guessing the QB issue is going to weight heavy on people's minds.

Does anyone have any idea when Dave Campbell's magazine is coming out? It is usually out by this ime (at least it was the last couple of years, if my memory serves me right). I can no information on the DCTF webite on a release date, and googling gets me nowhere. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Usually Judson will run some drills for the QB just to see how they handoff the ball. That is the single most important attribute that a Judson QB must have. If he can double as a kicker than we have a bonus.
