Young says he's not thinking about declaring for draft


AUSTIN - Heisman Trophy hopeful Vince Young says he intends to return for his senior year at Texas.

Young, a fourth-year junior from Madison, is eligible to declare for the NFL draft after this season. He made his strongest comments on the subject Monday, saying he plans to be with the Longhorns in 2006.

"Basically I'm coming back," Young said. "You've got to leave (turning pro) open, but it's not something I'm thinking about right now."

Longhorns players typically do not leave early for the NFL. Ricky Williams, Chris Simms, Roy Williams, Cedric Benson and Derrick Johnson are among the notables who returned for their final seasons under coach Mack Brown.

Young, along with USC's Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart (last year's winner), are considered the front-runners for the Heisman. The award will be presented on Dec. 10.

"The fans ask me all the time," if I'm coming back, Young said. "Actually, they tell me to come back. It's always in the back of your mind."

Well, I would not take this as 100%. Strange things happen when money starts talking. But, I like hearing it.

i THINK IT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR VINCE YOUNG TO COME BACK TO WORK ON HIS PASSING ACCURACY AND JUST WORKING ON READING DEFENSIVE COVERAGES. I DO NOT THINK HE CAN WALK INTO THE NFL AND BE A STARTER AS A ROOKIE, WHICH WOULD LEAVE HIM ON THE BENCH. iT IS HARD TO IMPROVE IF YOUR NOT IN THE GAME SEEING IT AT GAME SPEED. YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE FILM YOU WANT AND RUN IT AGAINST A SCOUT TEAM AT PRACTICE BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME.

I wonder why he is projected as a top 5 player by most analysts and scouts then?
