Belton had the best "this technically ain't a prayer" prayer of any school this season. Actually, the only school we've played this season that has attempted anything of the sort.

Nice touch Belton.

I've heard of schools that blast stuff into the stadium from a nearby church.

They could do it from a church in Mt. Pleasant if they wanted to.

Victoria Memorial Stadium has a church right across the street. They could do that too. I never thought of that! Nice idea!

Isn't there some kind of law prohibiting churches from being within a certain distance of school property?

Oh nevermind I just googled it. Those laws are against strip clubs. my bad.

You know if it was me, I'd build a church next to the strip joint. I'm sure the strip joint wouldn't like it, though.

There's a church right next to the famous strip club Heartbreakers south of Houston on I-45 that always has a play on the strip club's name in its sign -- stuff like "instead of breaking your heart, come inside and heal it. "

Haha, are you talking about the small Methodist church right across the street that looks like the old school houses back in the olden's times (no offense). Yeah we sure can do that.

Let me guess you are one of these trash talkers on this board. Don't fret man, you have it coming to you sooner or later. (I'm joking :D )

Strake Jesuit has a public prayer at their home games. You can hear the flesh smakin' on the face of an ACLU nerd.

I have no problem with a public prayer at a private school. I do feel though that if you want to play in a public school league you should not be allowed to have a public prayer. If you want a prayer go back to your private school league

What about public schools that want to pray before a game? Do they need to go to a private school league?

they can do so, but it should not be a prayer led by someone of authority or over the PA.

I guess if there was some kind of harm in it for people I could understand your point.. But I don't see the harm.

The harm is that people that do not want to participate are being forced to by an entity that is funded by the government and in this country we have a seperation of church and state. If you go to a private school it is not funded by the government and you obviously want to have a public prayer at football games. The great thing about this country is that if you want to pray you can and if you don't want to pray then you don't have to.

I understand that point.. But I still don't see the harm.. I mean, they sing the national anthem and salute the flag at games too. I don't salute the U.S. flag ever because I feel as a citizen of the CSA that they U.S. is here illegally and hold no allegiance to that country. So when they do all that I just stand with my back to the flag (as a sign of protest) and pray (silently) for God to free the South again.
If I just can't stand to hear it.. If for some reason I start melting, I have the option of placing my fingers in my ears or leaving until that part is over with.

National Anthem and saluting the flag have nothing to do with religion

I didn't say that it did.. My point was that if you are not ok with something (that most people are) then you have options.. Forcing the ideals of a few on the many is not really right.
I don't expect them to quit with flag and song business because it offends me and a few others...
I feel just as strongly about that as you do about the prayer business. So beside the fact that they are different ideals they are the same.

Of course this is the biggest joke you've ever told on this board, right?

I feel that the government should not fund something that has to do with religion. I am fine with everyone observing a moment of silence and even having the PA announcer saying that you can use that time to pray. What I am not ok with is the PA saying a prayer.

Why do we have prison chaplains? Obviously there must be something about separation of church and state someone doesn't understand. You ever read Jefferson's letter?

No, I'm really not joking. I have nothing against the US other than they are on Southern Soil illegally.. And I say that meaning, as I understand laws (back then) and how things went down.

Honestly I would rather not get too much further into my politics out here on the public boards. I was just making a point.. If you really are curious, pm and we can discuss it. And no, I am not a tobacco chewing balding skinhead.

I can accept that.. I'm the compromising type ya know...
Because I don't think everybody prays the same.. I am more the silent type anyway.. And I think would agree with everyone.
Pray to God, dirt, allah, a tree, nothing... Silently.. That's a good enough idea that I think everyone could agree on.. Or least they should..

exactly I would prefer the moment of silence more than not having anything at all. I think that every football game should start off that way

Are you kidding? It's a national holiday around here every time Judson loses! Everybody asks where I'm at and I get threads dedicated to me. I talk a lot of trash, but I get it coming back, too. I still talk more than I take, though.
