I was looking up some playering rankings for some kids and just wondering how and who comes up with this.

Maybe becasue I am from Plano I am a little bias, but I would beleive that Rex Burkhead should be ranked higher then #58 in the Rivals Lone Star Top 100 for Class of 2009. And actually dropped some since the last time it was released.

Wondering if anyone else has ever wondered about this?

Not really, because it doesn't really matter. :D

That depends. What other players are ranked above him?

I've always thought Burkhead's rankings on all the rivals and scouts were ridiculous. I mean have they not seen this kid play? On most occassions I would say my opinion is bias being from Plano, but this is the best athlete that has EVER come through Plano, period.

Everything is prototype, right speed, size, weight, vertical/lateral jump, 40 etc...... Miss one and ya drop. Can't gauge that heart though! It's all that counts!

as far as Burkhead is concerned, If he goes to the school of his choice do the rankings really matter? he does not seem like the kind of young man that puts too much stock in what other people think.

The LSR is a joke. Geoff Ketchum who publishes the list knows nothing about evaluating players or the game of football. He basis his list on who Texas recruits and when someone commits to UT they move up. When they commit else where they move down.

Especially if they commit to A&M or out of state.

He has players ranked lower in Texas than they are ranked nationally. Last year he had All Americans ranked lower than Texas commits that were not even All State.

Don't lose any sleep over any ranking that Geoff Ketchem does.

Guys, CHDad is on the money with this one. Rex is the real deal. He's played at a high level since day one. He plays in one of the most talented, competive areas in the entire nation. He has all the measurables a scout could ask for. You know what else? Every major program he could possibly want to attend is, at the very least, interested. All lists are nothing more than hypothetical projections, period. The key is that he gets his chance and makes the most of it. I have no doubt that, barring injury, he'll do just that.

Not trying to hijack a thread of anything, but i had this same type of post last year when the rankings came out and Blake Gideon of Leander was ranked so low. Last year he was ranked 96th in the LSR top 100 to start the season and ANYBODY that has seen him play knows that their aren't 95 better high school football players in the state of Texas. I mean the guy was jr defensive MVP according to this site, and once his senior season came around he recorded 134 tackles, 7 ints, 5 pbu, 6 forced fumbles, 4 blocked kicks (i could go on, but lets just say he had one of the better seasons of any defensive player in the nation), was the 5atexasfootball.com defensive MVP, and MVP of district 14-5a....yet there were 95 better players in the state of texas

You know your guy a lot better than I do and probably a lot better than someone who has a motive and I assure you they do, but I notice a few lower class kids in the mix. Some we don't see and don't consider on this board. Some must be picked as projects also. Don't worry now it's all press until late september through november.

Based on that list, I'm expecting a state championship from Brownwood this year.

Brownwood has a very good shot at state. In fact whoever wins district from 2-3A should probably win state.

I agree LSR is a joke, how could players move up or down when no one is playing football right now, what happened did he change his mind or get paid a little more. He also base his oppinion on who's getting off-season offers. I believe Rex is the real deal but atleast he's on the list. How bout a CB who made 5atexasfootball all-state junior team, TSWA 2nd team all-state DB, Dave Campbell Texas football magazine 1st team all-state DB and Chevy Prep ticket first team all-state DB but not even get on the list, try that for size. I guess this Kid is not a true UT fan.
