Ok - I've kept quiet long enough ;) After another unbelievable week of highlight reel defensive plays I see no Lufkin Panther anywhere near the Player of the Week once again. The POW from Region 2 is a LB that blocked a fg and made "several tackles". Great job.....

But, I saw Leonard Hewitt make two unbelievable picks against Klein Forest (giving him 5 for the year even though he rarely gets thrown to), returning one to the 15. He had about 60 yards in punt returns and just generally plays out of this world. Mandela Roberts returned a pick to the one and had his customary 10+ tackles with several for losses. A.J. Penson had an incredible week - numerous tackles for losses and hit the qb that caused the Roberts pick. How about some love in Panther land?

Does the Plano qb really need a POW twice in three weeks?

I could care less about those type of awards but i bet it would be very difficult to pick from 200 plus teams and i would not want to do it. Do not get me wrong i like that they do it but I could care less if my team has a player on it!! The only award i really want Lufkin to win is the state championship award. ;)

I like to try and sneak defensive players in there once in a while, but that's tough since hardly anyone keeps defensive stats. Gent may be the best LB in the state, and made plays to help his team win a huge game on SGP.

POW and TOW are important to me, but the end of the season awards are when the players that may not have been recognized as a player of the week (and some that do of course) get noticed on the All State teams and things like that.

You do a great job KT -- and I can't imagine picking one player each week from a region. I do realize the gaudy offensive numbers generally are what pops up on the radar - and you most likely will see none of that from Lufkin this year. My personal belief on the TOW would be a team that plays better than expected -- and I think you generally nail that one as well.

Off the subject, for a second, what qualifies a school for 5A? I know it's the attendance, but how many students must attend to be considered 5A (I and II....in reference to playoffs.)...or 4A, 3A 2A, etc..?

Thanx!

Dez and maybe Jaime are the only one' that has put up gaudy numbers for Lufkin on the offensive side but it is take your pick on the defensive side. ;) It would be so hard to pick because there are just so many teams and so many great players in Texas at the 5a level you could choose from

Hasn't anyone noticed that the POW for Region 2 is from Irving MacArthur which is a team from Region 1? That's just not very fair for Region 2!

Well in KT's defense, Justin Gent may just be the best defensive player in the state, as good as anybody for Lufkin.
