Ok Woodlands fans some of you guys been talking about this game for two weeks , trying to get my panthers looking ahead. Well now the talk can start, about this coming friday night. Hope you have a safe trip down to this big city and enjoy the game, it should be our best so far. How did you all fair with Conroe, heard the game was close for a while, never heard the final.

Game was too close for me. Conroe was ready to play as they started with you guys (Lufkin) with their opening drive & TD.

Conroe took too many injuries against Lufkin. Also, they were "hurt" with grades (no pass, no play). They are a much better team than their record.

Looks like Huntsville put some yards on Lufkin this week. Resting players?

Regardless, the playoffs are coming with the winner of Klein vs. Klein Forest taking the 3rd spot.

Let's have a good game & prep for the playoffs. No injuries on either side! Let's represent the district well.

I take The Woodlands by 3 pts. It will be our best defensive showing yet. It will push our safeties to their finest moment now that we must worry about the pass. It will be very interesting.

They had 205 total yards and the 2nd string defense played since the early 3rd quarter on wake up!! The Woodlands will get a major reality check next week i promise.

Plenty of typical fat foods but do not get the popcorn whatever you do. Good hot dogs and nachos and pizza but do not get the popcorn. The worst i have ever tasted. Heavily salted with no butter and stale! God awful!!

Get the pizza at the concession stand

Parking won't be impossible, just park at the trinity church across the street, they just take donations and its easy to get out when its over with.

Will do, double or nothing huh, what is the spread gonna be? Give me 14 (you have home field advantage :D) and I will do it. Sounds like I will be getting peanuts instead of popcorn. How can it be bad? I mean, how do you mess up popcorn?

I will continue to use my (to be expected) conservative outlook. TWHS will offer up the best D Lufkin has seen all year - by a long shot. Is the Lufkin O up for the challenge? I can tick off 2-3 areas the Lufkin O needs improvement on with my white glove inspection. Some Lufkin fans call me too demanding. We'll see.

From an outsiders standpoint. Northshore has a much much better offense than Lufkin from what I have read. The Woodlands held Northshore to 7. So I do think the Woodland's D can keep the Lufkin score down. I really don't see the Woodland's O putting up much on the Lufkin D either. I would say this will be a very low scoring game with the pack winning by about 6. A turnover or a penalty at the wrong time could swing the game in the other direction.

Looks like Lufkin has a good kicker also!

"Jaime Fernandez, Lufkin — The junior kicker nailed field goals of 42, 44 and 47 yards and had four PATs to finish with 13 points in Lufkin's 37-21 win over Klein Forest on Monday. He followed that performance with a 22-yarder and three PATs in the Panthers' win over Huntsville to total 19 points for the week."

That is a secret weapon fo some points!

Earlier, I picked The Woodlands by 3 points. I did not predict the score. That is impossible.

The only wildcard is the home field advantage; but only due to the officials -- of which are locals. I hope we have a fair game if it gets close at the end. I still remember Humble (in Humble) two years ago. Just brutal.

Here is how it will play out.

Lufkin will be unable to run the ball for large gains. The pass will be successful for a few big gains as they will keep our defensive backs honest. They will score & the kicking game will be very important. Lufkin will fake at least one field goal.

The Woodlands will be sluggish early on offense. They will go into the locker room down by 10-14 pts, but come back in the 3rd quarter. It will take the last two drives to take the victory. Lufkin turnovers will prove costly as The Woodlands will turn them into points.

Bottomline, if our WR's & TE block, we have a chance. Getting to Lufkin's outside LB's will be the deciding factor. Linemen cannot just block once & look. They must pancake their assignment & take the player out of the play. That is the only way we will be able to score.

Woodlands by 3 pts.

You are right The Woodlands will need to get to the edge on our defense to have a chance to win. But if you are down by that much a halftime and usually we play the best defense in the second with all the adjustments Coach Quick makes then you are in trouble.

YEP! Tyler Lee Sophmore QB was Preston Hill! when his brother was hurt. It was amazing how #6 Tyler Lee beat was #1 Lufkin at Lufkin Stadium with only soph. QB. Lufkin also lost a game in the BI-District which was very ridiculous and I do not know why and same with Longview lost their BI-District too. Its wierd that I still don't know why...

I can't think of many teams that can survive been down period going in to halftime with lufkin, much less 14 pts down and at Ol' Abe. And on top of that Coach Outlaw's staff is one of the best at making halftime adjustments if not the best.

10-14 points.

I was being realistic. I see one big healty Lufkin pass for 1 TD; and not to Dez. It will be the wake up call.

Our defense does not quit. No more Javorski Lane. He had his best game against us as we continued to blitz. Lesson's learned.

The key to victory will be blocking. As simple as that.

Does Lufkin allow BBQ pits going prior to the game? I think I will skip the pizza in the concessions.

This will be great. This will be the kind of atmosphere we were used to playing in the old East Texas district. PACKed houses and two great teams.

If The Woodz' O has been struggling I dont think they are going to get well at Abe against this Defense.

This Lufkin offense is very explosive at times but they are not completely consistent and they are not an offense that eats a lot of clock up or the defense would have even more gaudy numbers. It seems like they either score very quickly or they have a bad 3 and out series!! They are averaging 38 a game and they would be a lot more if Lufkin's 2nd string qb had not been struggling so much because the 2nd string has played a lot. They are only getting better with each game. One of my biggest problems with Lufkin is 3rd and short plays. It is almost a guarantee they will run!! about 99 percent of the time now that i think of it. That was ok when Lane was here because you could not stop him but not with the smaller rb's and an inexperienced o-line. i would mix it up more. I have seen several 3rd and short's failed due to this. I would like us to throw a stop route or a quick slant or out on those downs sometimes. I am sure Lufkin has a few plays for The Woodlands and they will be very unpredictable at times in their play calling. They are always unpredictable when playing good to great teams. I cannot wait for this one!!

The Woodz gets 97 yards of total offense against KF. They manage 23 points against Conroe. Then they get 7 points at Katy, 6 Points against Northshore and 17 against Klein. If Lufkin scores twice, then this game is over.

Well, we have won 6 in a row and have found a QB who I think should be the starter. For some reason the JR. seems to get the start but the other always plays (who is a SR.) I think the big lift for the offense has been the transfer from LA. to help out undersized Burns at the RB. Our secondary could be one of the best I have ever seen from a Highlander team who are on almost every tackle and will be returning next year.

We have a good Defense this year and so does Lufkin so I say which ever team gives up the big play in this game will come away with the win.

I know you Pack fans say you never lose at home and your home record shows that but I wouldn't overlook this Highlander squad, they are coming together as a team now and I don't think that a road game scares them. They have played in bigger games with bigger crowds then this many times. Good luck to both teams and I am really looking forward to this game.

How about some directions once you take 59 to Lufkin?
:D

pack0808
10-25-2005, 09:34 AM
Once you get into Lufkin on 59 you take a right on south medford or right on the loop. You will see chicfila and a scholtzky's and a applebee's when you turn. You will go under a under pass or two?? and then just after you pass 69 you will see a sign that says Abe Martin next right. Go all the way to the stop sign in front of the school and take another right. Self explanatory after that!!

AAH no man, don't have to go that far. I am sure one way or another it will happen. Maybe we can go double or nothing next year when my Longhorns have home field advantage. Or if they win out and USC wins out (if your a USC fan) we can double it then.

I am not a Ohio St fan i just thought they would win at the shoe (glad i was wrong besides the 30 pack) and i am definitely not a USC fan. You know i am a Iowa Hawkeye all the way but i do cheer for UT 2nd. I cheer for the Lufkin players where ever they are at unless they are playing my Hawks. ;)

My daughters are cheering at the Midway High vs. Killeen game on

But....................Lufkin will probably play at least one playoff game here in Waco...so we can hook up then...or if the Woodlands plays here...either way...it's cool.

Hey Duke...why don't you come to the UT/Baylor game in a few weeks. My wife and I are going to the Hornfans tailgate...it would be awesome if you could make it up for that one. I'm trying to get me Dad to come up...

NO team has scored more than one TD on the Woods except for the first game of Katy. No other team since then has scored more than ONE TD. Including the Katy game The Woodlands has only allowed 680 yards passing total. That comes out to about 80 yards a game. Hopefully the refs will let the kids play, but from what I've heard they are pretty partial to the Pack. I really don't think ya'll Pack fans have any idea how good this defense is.

Lufkin has nice WR's; however, the Woodlands has a good crop of players.

Matt Bova is leading the charge with sure hands. Drabek & Grote are explosive, althought Drabek is in a horrible slump compared to last year stats. Our QB woes is part of the problem & agree with TheDuke. We seem to go with the junior (Parsons); yet, the senior (Pound) is delivering with more zip on the ball & accuracy (at least in my opinion).

I understand why you would go with the future as this was the case in Jordan Dotson's JR year. However, we need to do everything to go to state as possible.

Back to WR's & TE. They simply do not block. This is the difference in making big plays. I hope we see a better game & no dropped balls. It has been tough enough for the QB to get the ball to them... by god, don't drop it.

I change my mind. The Woodlands by 4 pts. If I had to guess? 24 - 20.

It's possible. Not sure would have to ask my Dad.
But my Great-Grandfather had 33 kids...no joke...
There was a big write-up and about him in the Lufkin Daily News
for holding the national record for most kids.
I framed it...with a picture of him...and gave it to my Dad as a gift
a few years ago...
So there are a lot of families with Wideman roots around the Lufkin area.
Why...does somebody know me?

Well on second thought Iowa has several texas players like baytown lee's drew tate slc's Scott chandler and dallas ft worth's clinton solomon and on and on so i am sure there is more then me. LOL My parents were born and raised there so that is where the connection is from. My dad did it to me. top 10 for 3 years straight and a BCS bowl in 2002 is not bad. That streak will come to an end just like their 22 game home streak did this week. By the way, did you know Iowa is 3rd in putting players in the NFL over the last 3 years!! Several 1st rounders too!!

Earlier, I picked The Woodlands by 4 points.

Woodlands by 4 pts.

No.. the subject was on page 3. Here is what will happen.... unless the refs call the game..

We saw them last year and Lane had about 220 plus and Lufkin had well over 400 total yards and 35 points!! ;) Nah, i know they are a much improved defense just like Lufkin is. Lufkin still had a top 10 defense last year even though The Woodlands had their share of yardage and points also. This year's LP defense is 10 times better and i am sure the same goes for the Woodlands. I think these are 2 of the best defense's in the state going at it Friday night. I think the top 5 defense's are 1. Lufkin 2. westfield 3. Katy 4.NS 5. The Woodlands I think Schertz Clemens is right up there also with Longview, Dallas Carter and maybe even SLC!! Should be fun to watch these 2 defense's.

Yeah it was the 2nd most points Lufkin gave up all year. The only team that had more vs Lufkin last year was SLC with 37. This defense is so much better this year it is not even funny. They are scary good and it is at Abe and The Woodlands has struggled on offense this year. Yall will be lucky to get 10 unless it comes from special teams or your defense causing turnovers deep in Lufkin's territory. And besides 35 is bettter then 28 duke!! ;)

Who on earth said that Lufkin was going to score left and right on The Woodlands?? I know i did not?? And the Lane thing kills me!! LOL We heard the same thing about Reggie!! Lufkin is only averaging 38 points a game this year without him and every good offense has a stand out that they use more then other's come on man?? That would be like saying if the Colt's did not have Manning or if UT did not have Young etc etc etc I know The Woodlands is by far the best defense Lufkin has faced so i do not think they will get near that many. when i say 31-7 it is because i think the defense will cause turnovers and pin The Woodland's deep. Plus i know Lufkin is capable of having some big passing play's on anybody. Some of those SCRUBS you are talking about Lufkin played gave The Woodlands hell and The Woodland's had trouble scoring on them besides Huntsville. Either way i know The Woodlands defense is very good and i am well aware they held NS to 6. I also know that Katy put 30 on them but that had a lot to do with a very bad Woodlands offense in that game. I think Lufkin can do a similar thing that Katy did to The Woodlands. I can't see the Woodz scoring on Lufkin. We have not been able to score more than three TDs on even the middle of the pack teams. I also worry about the pass defense. Katy lit up the secondary like it was Christmas. We have not seen a decent passing game since then. I think all the references to the Northshore score are a little out of place. Their coach gave up 3 extra point distance field goals to try for seven. The Shore had no passing game and this Woodz defense can definitely stop the run. If we win it will be with special teams and/or points from the defense much like the KF game.
This should be a good test for Lufkin's O line which from what I have read(not seen) is the weak spot on the team. If Lufkin wins it will be with big plays. I don't think they will be able to consistently move the ball on long drives against the Woodz front seven. I look for Bryant to have a big night.

This all could be true BUT...... I think we are much better team since Katy! We have a solid RB now that we have the transfer, and if the same QB that has been playing can get A LITTLE time to throw then we have a shot at scoring. We have to carry the Offense with our Defense.

NO BIG PLAYS or we lose!

NEWAY, I predicted earlier in this thread a Lufkin win. Should be a good game for fans of both teams. Woodz has a good D and it will be a good playoff warm up for Lufkin's O and coaching staff plus a good measuring stick on how much Woodz has improved.

With that being said this game is the game of District. I hope its clean and fair. With all the support those great Woodz fans showed last year while Lufkin made that deep run in the playoffs. Two great teams with great fans. I hopw for no injuries and wish luck to both teams in coming games.

Glad to see you back Dan. Yep - district crown rides on this game - should be a fun, rocking time. Best to the Woodz - be safe - park with care  -- and let's enjoy a great atmosphere. Congrats to LP78!

There you go again, pack, raggin' on us poor ol' Katy fans about the 2003 debacle at Abe. At least this time you mentioned that we won State that year. I missed both Katy/Lufkin games 'cause I rarely travel that far unless it's a playoff game. I still would like to see the Abe stadium sometime.

NEWAY, I predicted earlier in this thread a Lufkin win. Should be a good game for fans of both teams. Woodz has a good D and it will be a good playoff warm up for Lufkin's O and coaching staff plus a good measuring stick on how much Woodz has improved.

I knew you would get me for that!! LOL I was just making a point how tough it is to win at Abe. Everybody knows Katy got the last laugh that season.

Ive allways been here. Just when everything I want to say has been said why repeat it lol. I think Lufkin wins this one myself. 33- 14. These guys are pumped as well as the Woodz players. Regardless who wins I will be behind both teams come monday. Friday is all about the Panthers though. I will be unable to attend as I have a youth camp to attend. I will have all the little tikes gathered around the radio listening though. lol.

I don't know about the rest of the Woodz fans, but I am ready to see Ole Abe!! Everyone has been talking about it so long I can't wait to see it. Got my tickets and will be heading that way around 5. Regardless who wins this will (I hope) be a great game with some good athletes and some good support. Good Luck to all and see you tonight!!!

GO DUBS!!!!! :D

Woodlands by 3 pts.

keep this guys prediction in mind....i will be watching to see how it plays out

I would put a lot of money on Katy winning state again this year. No one has come close to them and they look very good. I hope to see them beat the you know what outta SLC when the time comes.

On to TWH v LP. I know whoever loses this game will be making excuses of some sort. Excuses are like a**holes, everybody has them, they all stink.... BUT you still need them. :D :D
Well lets hear your excuses then.

Sorry to disappoint anybody, but Woodlands by 4.

Last few drives & Lufkin turnovers will benefit us.
NOT DISSAPOINTED HERE! See that is why I don't talk smack before a game. You guys should still do good in the playoffs.

You just don't know how good this defense is, but you will soon find out.

Name whoever you want, this D will come to play.
Still waiting to find out. Not that they were bad but you made it seem like our offense would not even be able to score.

Wow!

Here is how it will play out.

Lufkin will fake at least one field goal?

* Did not have to.... The defense was too busy scoring.

The Woodlands will be sluggish early on offense. They will go into the locker room down by 10-14 pts, but come back in the 3rd quarter.

* Well, we just did not do it.

Lufkin turnovers will prove costly as The Woodlands will turn them into points.

* It turned out to be the other way around

Bottomline, if our WR's & TE block, we have a chance. Getting to Lufkin's outside LB's will be the deciding factor. Linemen cannot just block once & look. They must pancake their assignment & take the player out of the play. That is the only way we will be able to score.

* This was a big disappointment. When I saw the Lufkin RB turn it the other direction & score a TD, it was because the other players took note & just blew away some Woodland defenders which allowed for the score. We have two holes in our blocking & it showed.

Congrads ! Lufkin will do well in the playoffs. Right now, I'm licking my wounds. I don't see how we are going to get pass SLC. Not if we don't block.

Woodlands by 3 pts.

* You have to be positive.

Thanks! I say you have just as good a shot at SLC as any other top notch team in Texas that can step up to the challenge. Look what happened to them tonight. They pulled out the win but it was not easy. I really look for some suprises in the playoffs.

Our defense really held you guys up & rush the ball.

Great game and atmosphere. What can I say? Our senior defensive leaders - Leonard Hewitt; Mandela Roberts and Jamie Harris - all had touchdowns from the defensive side. These guys will be missed next year.

EJ Shankle and Dez Bryant both had 60+ return yards - giving LP a short field on at least 4 occassions.

I was actually much more impressed with The Woodz O than D. They ran all up and down the field last night - both Smalls and Montague. Not sure why your coach trades out qb's so regularly - no. 18 appeared much stronger than the first qb. Of course, remember -- when a D puts up 21 points-- the downside is you go back out on the field -- and TWHS had long drives after each D td -- maturity on their part. Conversely, the Highlanders D seemed very slow to me - they played smart and did well on the run, but I honestly think we would have scored 35 on them by pass if the D had not been scoring.

TWHS band was great - and huge. Sorry to Duke and gang the introduction to Abe had to be with 3 defensive TD's -- but it's a tough place to play in.

Rich - their D was pretty decent, but we moved the ball effectively. When your D scores 21 -- it kinda messes up your O's momentum :) -- I'll take as many of those types of wins that you give me though against a good team.

Amen! A great performance on both sides of the ball. I for one was happy to see the D get on the board for a change. Made the game more fun.

Would have been nice if we didn't turn the ball over for 3 TD's but hey, Pack is a MUCH better team then we are.

Also, Abe Martin, One of the best stadiums I have been to (Love the Purple LP sign from far away!) Very nice field and everything. One complaint, Don't play commercials in between plays, very annoying, but I guess you have to pay for that score board somehow. Had a great night, great night for Football, Lufkin looks good on Defense, Offense is so so, but WOW, You guys got some SPEEEED!!!! Good Luck, and Congrats in another 14-5A District title!:D

Hey woods fans it takes a team to win, that is why there is offense and defense. The Ravens won a super bowl with no offense and a killer defense.

I know what the defense did. It is very simple to understand. Everyone thought we would not be able to do much this year without Lane. Take Lane out of the equation and we have a TEAM effort on BOTH sides of the ball to win games. All games are not won by offensive or defensive stats or scores alone. It takes a TEAM effort to put up points on the board and our offense and defense managed to do that well against the Woodlands. 3 TD's on both sides of the ball is pretty good. Good Luck in the playoffs. I have a good feeling that there will be some suprises in D1. More on that later.

I agree with you about the commercials Duke- annoying is mild - do all teams with replays do that? Our goofballs still occassionally run commercials when an opposing team player is down on the field - how moronic is that? They have gotten better - but still bad. Our O was a bit sluggish - but, seriously it is hard on the offensive rythm when the D scores 21.

If we lose, no excuses here. If you lose will we hear excuses? I don't know if the officiating crew will be from around here but I have already seen one of your guys already trying to use that as an excuse if you lose. Was it you?Someone tried that a few games back but the crew was actually out of the Houston area. I don't think we will lose but that does not mean it is not possible. So if your team loses take it like a man and don't make excuses.
Well I guess the excuses have come out anyway.
