TGO's Top 10 DE's in 2008:
1) George Selvie (South Florida/6-4 248)
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2007/10/15/2003952415.jpg
15 sacks and 58 tckls (35 solo). 31.5 tfl. How can you argue with 15 sacks and 31.5 tckls for loss?? He's a bit undersized, but he's seen excellent success in a conference with QB's like Pat White, Brian Brohm and Kellen Lewis. He's a menace and NFL scouts are drooling over him.
2) Greg Hardy (Ole Miss/6-5 255)
http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2007/1029/ncf_a_hardy_300.jpg
10 sacks and 64 tckls (40 solo). 18.5 tfl. Selvie is superb... but he did what he did in 13 games. Hardy played in 10 games and still had an All-American year in stats. He's lean, but explosive and very aggressive. If he had played 3 more games, I'd imagine his stats would be jaw-dropping... even more than what they are, now.
3) Greg Middleton (Indiana/6-3 265)

16 sacks and 50 tckls (26 solo). 17 tfl. There are some scouts who believe he'll be the 1st DE taken in the 2009 NFL Draft. They could be right. He's got low-explosive first-step and a knack for getting to the QB.. evident in his Nation-leading 16 sacks.
4) Kirston Pittman (LSU/6-4 252)
http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2007/08/31/PH2007083100004.jpg
8 sacks and 68 tckls (30 solo). 15 tfl. There are those who feel Tyson Jackson is a better DE. I don't think so. Kirston may be 252 lbs, but he had much more production than Jackson, last year. He doesn't have the 6-5 290 lb chizzled frame as Pittman, but he makes up for it in all-out effort and animalistic-aggression!
5) Jan Jorgensen (BYU/6-4 265)
http://images.townnews.com/gvnews.com/content/articles/2007/09/02/news/news01.jpg
14 sacks and 77 tckls (42 solo). 20 tfl. He is next years Chris Long. Powerful, quick, intelligent and humble! He has a motor that runs all day long! How else would he have 20 stops behind the line and be in on 77 tckls... as a Sophmore!
6) Tyson Jackson (LSU/6-5 289)
4 sacks and 40 tckls (20 solo). 14 tfl. He's a projected Top 15 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, by many NFL Mock Draft-Analysts. I think he has that potential, but he needs to turn on his motor and keep it on. Faded a bit in 2007, but I expect big things from him in 2008. Big, powerful and aggressive!
7) Maurice Evans (Penn STate/6-2 269)
13 sacks and 54 tckls (31 solo). 21.5 tfl. Superb technique, great explosion and a head for the QB. He's a baby, at 19 yrs old and will only get better!
8) Eric Norwood (South Carolina/6-0 264)
6 sacks and 69 tckls (46 solo). 19.5 tfl. Young, much like Evans. Always around the football and in the backfield. Quick feet, solid technique and a knack for playmaking. Once named National Defensive Player of the Week, when he scored 2 tds (Fumble return and Int), 6 tckls and 1 sack vs Kentucky.
9) Nick Reed (Oregon/6-2 255)
12 sacks and 60 tckls (30 solo). 22.5 tfl. He's not going to intimidate you with his power or size, having only a 340 lb bench press and 330 lb power clean, but he does play the game full-speed-ahead. He doesn't have superb technique or monsterous legs, but he's always around the ball, making plays.
10) Auston English (Oklahoma/6-3 257)
10 sacks and 42 tckls (21 solo). 15 tfl. Only played in 12 games (missing 2), but fielded a very good season, in a tough conference. Explosive, fast, good technique and a knack for making big plays. I expect English to have a banner year for Oklahoma.
