In last night's win over Odessa Permian, Taylor Potts became Abilene High's all-time leading passer, surpassing the numbers put up by Marcus Johnson a couple of years ago. If my math is correct, Potts' career numbers at AHS look like this...
310-477 (65%) for 4,681 yards and 44 TDs to 8 INTs
Taylor is also 20-1 as a starter including 8-0 in district play.
Also, with the Permian win, Steve Warren surpassed the legendary Chuck Moser for most wins by a coach at AHS (79-32 at AHS). Coach Warren's 79th win also ties him with Midland Lee's Earl Miller for 3rd most wins in the history of the Little Southwest Conference. John Parchman and his 88 wins ranks second so it wont belong before Warren moves up again (he's got a ways to go to pass Wilkins' 148 wins).
In a program that dates back to the 1920's with 6 state titles, the "Team of the Century" and on and on, to say that you have won more games than any other coach is truly special. Hat's off to Steve Warren.

Great Job indeed.
The way he resurrected that program is a testamony to his coaching abilities. I remember being at the Abilene/DeSoto playoff game in 1999 and how over 15,000 from Abilene were in attendance at Tx Stadium and being amazed at the support they got. The West Texas teams have always been some of my favorite to watch in the playoffs, and something about the 3 Abilene schools always brings me to a game, I love watching Cooper,Abilene and Wylie.
Good job Coach Warren and best of luck to the Eagles and their supporters in the playoffs.

Congrats to both! This is a sleeper team gang - if there is no SLC standing in the way - watch out!

I agree. Steve Warren runs a great program in Abilene. Steve Warren is one of many great coaches we have in Texas. The great programs; Lufkin, SLC, Abilene, Euless Trinity, SV etc are because of great coaches and great coaching. The players are passing through, but the coach is the consistent factor in all great programs. You may have great athletes, but if you lack the coaching to teach the skills to the players and how to execute the plays, the school will just one of the many who play year after year without achieving anything. Yes, we should recognize stand out high school players, but the players would not achieve anything without great coaching. I know there are many more great coaches out there and I could not possibly list them all, but I guess this why we have this forum – as know my fellow Texans will advise the forum of all such coaches.

Congratulations! They have a remarkable program going there. We’ll see them in two weeks.
Go Rebels! :D

Congrats to Taylor and Coach Warren. Last night was my first Ahigh game of the year, and I must say I was impressed. Their offense moved the ball well, with Potts to Leong open all day whenever they wanted to utilize it, and Casey Bell running the heck out of the ball. I don't know if their defense is quite as fast as last years, but they are quick, and they hit harder than any high school team I have seen in a while. They were fun to watch, and I hope they can make another deep playoff run.

I'll tell you what is impressive about those stats to me is the low number of picks he has thrown and the gawdy 20-1 record as a starter. In a good number of those games, he has been pulled midway through the 3rd quarter or early 4th quarter due to the game being well in hand. Just a great QB and a great young man.

For well over half of those games he was able to hand the ball of to one of the state's best RBs. There's nothing better at taking the pressure off a QB than a RB that can carry the load.

That's so true. You can't handle a load all yourself.
