View Full Version : Tyler Lee's Playoff Situation
I've looked at all scenerios very carefully, and this is what I have come up with. If I've made a mistake though, please correct me, but I'm pretty sure this is what will have to happen for Lee to make the playoffs.
12-5A District Standings as of 10/23/05:
Longview 4-0
John Tyler 4-0
Rockwall 2-2
Mes. Horn 2-3
Lee 1-3
Mesquite 1-3
N. Mesquite 1-4 (Eliminated from playoffs)
In order for Lee to get in the playoffs, they will have to win the next 2 games. Rockwall will have to lose at least one of their next two games vs JT and Mesquite. However, if Rockwall loses their last two games, and Lee wins next week, then the Mesquite Horn/Lee game will determine the 3rd spot.
Next Week:
Lee plays Mesquite next week, so a Lee win will eliminate Mesquite from the playoffs. Mesquite Horn has a Bye week.
Week 10:
If Rockwall wins and loses a game the next two weeks, they'll have a 3-3 record. If Lee beats Mesquite Horn, both Lee and Horn would have a 3-3 record as well. Then it would go to a tiebreaker.
Mequite Horn beat Rockwall 38-35 in 3OT in Week 4. (Horn +3) (Rockwall -3)
Rockwall beat Lee 21-14 in Week 5. (Rockwall +7) (Lee -7)
Therefore, the point differential is this....
Rockwall +4
Horn +3
Lee -7
That means Lee will have to beat Mesquite Horn by 12 points to get into the playoffs.
Again, and to recap, this is on the condition that Lee wins the next two games, and Rockwall loses one of their last 2. If Rockwall loses both games, then the winner of Mesquite Horn vs Lee will enter the playoffs.
(This is also on the condition that Mesquite Horn does not have to forfeit that game to Rockwall. If that does happen, then Rockwall would have to lose both games and Lee would have to win out in order to make the playoffs.)
I believe that covers everything, but if I messed up, please let me know.

David Smoak said on the game broadcast last night that Tyler Lee was eliminated from the playoffs and he is the Lee game announcer. You would think if there were still a mathimatical chance for a playoff spot for Lee he would know.
After getting dismantled as they did last night by JT, I don't think they deserve to go to the playoffs. The only teams they have barely beat this year is a 2A team from Florida and Waco and North Mesquite teams that are sub par this year. This has to be the biggest fall of a State champion from one year to the next that I have ever seen. This only proves that the wins by Colerain and Longview on TV were against a mediocre team at best , a hollow State Champion from last season.

Cujo, the only problem with your scenario is that Horn is 2-3 so if Lee beats them they will fall to 2-4 and their won't be a 3 way tie. If there is no 3 way tie then Rockwall beat Lee head to head and they will advance. I think Rockwall must lose the last 2 and Lee win out, in addition to Rockwall not getting that win from Horn.

Will all the Lee boasters please give it up for this year. Your team is nowhere near last years team. A thread searching Lee's playoff chances is like one searching the Minnesota Vikings playoff chances, little or none, and won't be a factor if they do get in.
For all you really great Lee posters who have not been pressing this issue here, I'm sorry for your season and I hope you guys have a much better season next year. :)

WAKE UP MAN. this thread was started by a John Tyler fan. I am the only Lee fan to respond and I corrected cujo and showed that hopes were real dim. If you don't care about their playoff chances then STAY OFF THE THREAD. I could also care less about how Garland is doing, hence I dont post on the garland threads.
If we all gave up when things just perceived to be over, the yankees and red sox might as well not even played game 4 last year.
I am disappointed in you man, normally you have classy posts, but this is pathetic.

Cold but true. Colerain beat a team in Texas that could end up with 7 losses.
The sad thing is Tyler Lee gave Colerain one of the toughest games they've had all year besides the loss they took in game 1 to St. Xavier who is the #1 team in Ohio.
I think its funny how probably the #35-#40 ranked Texas team can travel to Ohio and give them the second toughest game of the year. Colerian has been blowing out everyone in Ohio usually like 40-0 by halftime type of scores.
The elite Texas teams would crush Colerain.. 100% no doubt about it.
Cujo, the only problem with your scenario is that Horn is 2-3 so if Lee beats them they will fall to 2-4 and their won't be a 3 way tie. You're right, thank you for finding that. I looked that post over at least 20 times and I have no idea how I missed that. So I guess Lee's chances are drastically diminished unfortunately. I don't think anyone in their right mind would think Rockwall could go 0-2 and Lee 2-0 in the last two weeks.
And as far as GoOwls.... dude, Tyler Lee is the DEFENDING State Champion and they will continue to be the Defending State Champion until they are eliminated from the playoffs, so I think a thread concerning their playoff situation is very warranted. and I'll just stop with that before I say something that I'll have to edit later.

Actually, I never said Tyler Lee was eliminated from the playoffs.
Not yet.
John Tyler and Longview have clinched playoff berths, that's obvious.
The final spot can become a little complicated.
What I did say was Tyler Lee's loss to John Tyler no longer puts them in position of controlling their own destiny.
Mesquite Horn (2-3), Rockwall (2-2), Mesquite (1-3), and Tyler Lee (1-3) are all still in the playoff mix, and unless I'm wrong, Rockwall is the only team (not including JT and Longview) that currently controls their own destiny.
I'll try and make this work, not sure if it will.
I'm not saying this is right...I'm almost thinking through the process...if you see a loophole, let me know. Right about the time I was going to post the thread, I noticed 2-3 discrepancies...and I hope I caught them all... (Thanks-Smoaky)
Mesquite Horn:
Horn is 2-3 with one game remaining against Lee (11/4). Horn is in if they beat Tyler Lee, and Rockwall loses one of their last two games (@ JT, vs. Mesquite). Horn already own wins against Mesquite and Rockwall, so they own head-to-head against those two already.
Rockwall:
Rockwall gets in is by winning their last two (@ JT and vs. Mesquite). They cannot get into head-to-head with Horn, and if Tyler Lee was to win their last two, Rockwall owns head-to-head against Lee, and would also have beaten Mesquite giving Mesquite at least 4-losses.
Rockwall can also get in if they lose to John Tyler on October 28th, beat Mesquite on November 4th, and Tyler Lee beats Mesquite Horn on November 4th.
Mesquite:
Mesquite can get in if they win their last two (vs. Tyler Lee, @ Rockwall), Rockwall loses their last two, and Lee beats Mesquite Horn. Mesquite beating Lee would give Lee at least 4-losses, and then if Lee beat Horn, Horn would have four losses.
Tyler Lee:
Tyler Lee can only get in with one scenario...they win their final two games (@ Mesquite, and vs. Mesquite Horn), but only if Rockwall loses their final two games (@ JT, vs. Mesquite). That would make Lee 3-3, Rockwall would have four losses if they lost their last two, and a Lee win against Mesquite and Mesquite Horn would give each of them a minimum of four losses.
I'm sure I've missed something, if so please advise.

Welcome Back Smoaky!
Rockwall has 1 team that they can lose and other that they can win because JT defense seems to get more powerful every week and does have a chance to beat Longview but you just have to look at Rockwall to. That means... Tyler Lee has 2 chances to beat Mesquite and Mesquite Horn.

I keep trying to tell those Ohioan's that the Colerain of last year played inferior competition therefore appeared unbeatable. They don't seem to get the point.
They say - Southlake Carroll had close games, so Colerain was the true #1 in the nation.
No matter how much evidence is put in front of them they will always faithfully defend their inferior football.
Suprisingly, on Yappi.com Concha did state that Longview could probably beat this years Colerain.

Ya, I jump on Yappi, every now and then, and there's Concha with his over-under emphasized predictions and dialogue! And I agree, those Ohioans like to block out the fact that probably their best team beat a non-ranked Lee squad!
HONESTLY they're decent, but they couldn't hold a candle to our elite!

Colerain would be average at best in TX this year.
REL made a forever journey and only lost by 15. Ohioans are saying that Colerain took it easy on REL. I find it hard to believe that Colerain would run up the score on everyone in Ohio but for some reason take it easy on the boys from TX.
Had the evidence proved Ohio had Great football, I would fully admit it.
That game against Colerain proved to me that I gave Ohio too much credit in the beginning.

I'm sure their blocking out the fact that Tyler Lee (Came to Ohio and gave one of the prima donna team) the 2nd best game of the year and kept it close 15 pts. Just think if Colerain came to Rose Stadium and play REL here in Texas...!! It would of been a toss up game here in Texas.
You can clearly see that Colerain plays against extremely inferior and poor competition in Ohio compared to Texas High school football. Colerain is blowing out everyone in Ohio and its usually like 35 or 40 to nothing by halftime. "Wow, that's horrible High school football" I dont care what they say.. Weak league or whatever piss poor excuse they have.
Ohio has about 5 decent teams that compared to Texas 25 teams. I do think Texas teams like (SLC, Lobos, Lufkin, Katy, North Shore, Spring Westfield, Trinity ) would pretty much take care of Colerain without much of a problem.
They can all shut down Colerain "one deminsion" offense and I know they can all score on them.
PS. In fact there is about 4 to 5 Texas 4A teams that would also beat Colerain without much of a problem.
Looking at the box-scores of Colerain "ohio games." It's pretty much pathetic the overall quality of competition in Ohio.

No way! Ya.. I'm not talking about coming back to play REL next season. I would love to see Colerain COME TO TEXAS next season and play someone like SLC.
SLC has alot of good looking underclass kids on the team.. SLC would smoke them so bad it wouldnt even be funny.
The 2004 SLC team would beat the 2004 Colerain team. Colerain defense wouldnt of been able to stop that advance passing team. I know they pound their chest on shutting down some 3rd rated running teams in Ohio... but they wouldnt of stopped SLC passing.
Plus, SLC defense would of shut down Colerian "one demision" running team.
