The proposed trade would send Shaq to the Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

Terrible fit for the Suns - Shaq has a bum hip and can't run worth beans. Good news for the Mavs IMO.

This is going to go down as one of the all time head scratchers for several reasons.

1) The player simply doesn't fit. In fact, Shaq is the anti-Sun, especially at this point.
2) Can a team completely change it's style of the last several years in mid season? Why would you when you're atop the West at 34-14?
3) They helped their window to close faster. The additions of Hill & O'neal have doing nothing to lessen the concern that their window with Nash was closing.
4) For a team that has been selling picks and giving away players to save money, they just added 40 million to the payroll. Marion would have been off their books after this season had he opted out, which he would have done. I understand you want to get something back for him but how about some workable parts. They can do nothing with Shaq or his contract other than eat it. Makes no sense.
5) Folks rave about Nash & Amare, rightfully so, but I assure you it's Marion that has made that team be able to do what it does. He's constant motion. Defends like a warrior because Amare doesn't know how, can score 30 without having a play run for him & rebounds like two players beacause Amare only does that when he feels like it.

If I'm Miami this is like a gift from God. Instead of staring down years of pain bound to that contract, they can realistically bounce back next season. They now have a second star who is only 29 to pair with Wade. Also, they're gonna have a top 5 pick in a draft that will include some of the best freshman ever to play college hoops. Imagine is they landed Beasley to play the 4 spot or Rose to play pg. All I can say is wow.

the only way i can see why the suns would trade for a shaq is to counter someone like tim duncan. the suns have always played small ball under dantoni, and not having a force in the center has always caught up to them in the playoffs.

I hope the clueless suns follow through with this. I wouldn't mind san antonio or dallas wining a couple more nba rings

It will take more than that for Dallas to win a ring.
