I've been monitoring the boards from West Texas and how those schools will be affected. It seems that the "Little SW Conference" is in its final year of play. Folks are saying that the Abilene schools will be joining the Metroplex teams. Midland and Odessa schools will join Lubbock and Amarillo schools in the new district re-alignments. With the inclusion of 4 teams in the playoffs next year it will necessatate 8 team districts to accomodate this. Thus the breaking up of the "Little SW Conference". Any thoughts or words from the metroplex.

I think that it is sad that LSWC will break up. There are some great rivalries which will disappear -Midland & Odessa teams not going to Abilene and Friday Nights Lights history etc. I guess that if the Abilene schools are in districts with the metroplex schools, then it is going to mean much longer travel for the west metroplex schools.

How did the nickname , LIL SWC come about??

The old District 4-5A was was made up of Abilene, Abilene Cooper, Midland, Midland Lee, Odessa, Odessa Permian, and San Angelo Central. These schools have made a combined 30 State Championship appearances, winning 18 of them. The moniker Little SW Conference was in honor of the College conference. The dominance that this district has over Texas football can be studied futher at this link:

It has a good overview about the history and rivalries that exist in West Texas football.

Just because the district is being split up doesn't mean any of the great rivalries have to come to an end. If it really means that much to the schools I'm sure games can be worked out as part of each teams non district scheduals next season.

When will re-alignments become public? If its true that they're trying to make all the districts 8 team, then 11-5A (Garland only, for now) might get another team (we currently have 7).

Rumor has it that Highland Park might move into the Garland district. I don't know how creditable that info is though.

I could take them or leave them...it'd be nice to cream some rich kids, but thye are a solid program and we may get our butts handed to us every year or two...

Every single year, man!

This HP team this year could win one of the 5a championships.

If they decide to put the Abilene Schools in with the Metroplex. I think it will be with teams from Mansfield, Weatherford, Saginaw & the Crowley schools --

It was an honor to a high school district to be considered the closest thing in the state to a college conference.

I guess that makes 26-5A THE LITTLE BIG 12! :D

One of the most memorable games I've gone to was when Mt. Pleasant beat Highland Park in Bi-District in 1989 in Mesquite or Garland. They even had programs that said Scots Illustrated and looked like Sports Illustrated.

HP might stay down...their enrollment is only around 1950. The current freshmen have only around 25 more students then the graduating seniors did.

And the Little SWC could very well stay together if Amarillo Palo Duro comes up to 5A. If that happened, I would think that the 3 Amarillo schools and the 3 Lubbock schools would be in District 2, and the Little SWC would be in District 3, with Central rejoining.

However, for playoff scheduling purposes, it'd really help the Current District 4 schools not to have to play in West TX for Bi-District games (though they'd probably have to play in Abilene once a year). They might prefer the current setup, though--if it changes, the current 4-5A might get stuck playing Carroll in bi-district.

Homer Johnson said he believes Rockwall will be added to 11-5A.

Yea... they returned a kickoff for a TD with like 7 seconds left in the game...

They wouldn't have a 6-team district and an a team district now with 4 teams making the playoffs...I bet that Rockwall stays where they are.

GISD will keep its district, but might have HP added to it if HP goes up. I don't think HP will go up, though, so GISD will continue to have its own 7-team district.

There are a ton of options - if they move Rockwall it will be because two more schools will be added to 12-5A (Nac? Marshall?) Wylie will be moving up in the next realingnment too - they are another candidate to join the GISD schools...

I certainly hope we (Trinity) gets away of the Dallas County District (Irving & GP School Districts) and gets back in the district with our neighbors of the Grapevine/Colleyville, Keller and Southlake school districts.
