O well that answers the question why there defense looked so out of position against MNW.
Why wold you leave a program like SLC and go to Cedarhill. SLC wouldnt take him back or what.

He didn't leave Carroll for Cedar Hill, he left Carroll for North Texas with Coach Dodge. Mendoza was then fired by UNT after this season, and Cedar Hill pursued him pretty hard, I guess!

All that growing city means is more high schools. Katy i one of the fastest growing cities but Katy high is almost at 4a numbers. Yea they have athletes. But the state powers right now dont. Programs are more than talent.

ch is a growing program that has been on the rise since joey mcguire took over 5 years ago.
their first playoff win was last year and then they ran off five more to go perfect on the year at 16-0. you want to talk about programs go and look at the recruits, the wt. room, oh yea their "boot camp" style of off-season i heard it's the real deal.
some teams have just been doing it longer, but it is one to look out for. especially now.

Recruits and size of your weight room doesnt matter. Boot camp is easy compared to alot of offseasons. Plus i dont believe offseason is all about the working out, but instead about developing leadersship and character.

Good luck to Coach Mendoza at Cedar Hill. He can be a tough task master. As has been pointed out, Ron left for North Texas with Dodge and some other Carroll coaches prior to last season. Since then, obviously Carroll has filled his position with a competent man and he remains on the staff at Carroll. Thus, there is no position available for Coach Mendoza as a defensive co-ordinator at Carroll. So 1) he did not leave Carroll for Cedar Hill (even though there would be nothing wrong with that) and 2) his absense was not the reason for Carroll's defensive play against MNW. The latter was much more a result of the almost complete varsity-level inexperience of the defensive secondary. But that is a different subject.

Well SLC just didnt look like the same team that im use to seeing with turnovers and mental breakdowns.

That is the rumor that he had applied and had inquried about the job. Some folks think he will get the job. However if he is leaving he sure must be doing a good job in hiding in since he just hired a new DC.
Personally, He needs to stay at Cedar Hill. Not sure if it would be the right fit for Plano. He is a good coach but he has no ties to Plano and with all the weapons coming back on offense how much will he change things up and will he tinker with the Plano system on Defense that has been in place with the same schemes for over 40 years.
Plano has had 3 head coaches in 40 years. All came from within the program and it has proved to be very successful except for some hiccups the last 6 years.

I agree, but the turnovers were not by the defense and the breakdowns were, in my mind, largely the result of the inexperience. But we should leave this for a different thread, rather than this one, if you would like to discuss.

Also remember that while he was at Carroll he never got 1st pick of athletes. Dodge set his offensive squads and then let Mendoza have the left overs to put his defenses together with. That's not a slap at all the great kids that have played defense for the Dragons in any way. It's just the way it was. Be interesting to see him with the kind of athletes that roam the halls at CHill playing on his side of the ball.

Thats pretty funny, at katy the offense gets the first two picks then the next eleven go to defense. Obviously kids positions will change as the coaches see fit, but we see the different styles.

Congrats to Coach Mendoza. A very unique guy who gets the most out of players. His style requires commitment, repsect and dedication. That was easier at SLC than it proved in the college ranks. The Chill players better get ready to put forth 110% effort every play, practice and off the field. The kind of coach who players respect, fear and are glad to have played under.

Not sure. Like Dr. E said, the discussion is for another thread. I would agree that last years problems were primarily due to a very inexperienced D. Without Mendoza, I would say we lost a little of the tougheness. The new SLC DC however, made great adjustments considering the talent vs. the last several years. And the MNW comments - I thought SLC D played well considering the inexperience and the talent MNW had.

What you seconded was Chill was more talented than SC. The 37-18 loss to SC proved you wrong.
More often than not, talent alone doesn't win football games. Yes, coaching, tradition, and community support is a major factor in winning football programs.
I'm still waiting to see if Chill is going to be a major force in the playoffs after their one-year wonder year with Cole. Time will tell.

Southlake Carroll was clearly the more talented team in 07. They owned Cedar Hill on the field where it matters. If you want to try and break it down to individual players, go ahead. PS: CHill is going to continue to be a force with the coaches they have in place. Mendoza is a very good addition.

Not including this year's signing day, Carroll has produced more DI players than any other school in Texas over the previous 5 years. Now, that number is a little deceiving. Most of those kids are signing with Texas, Florida, Ohio State or USC but they're playing DI football, regardless. Also the 2005 class was huge. I believe 12 signee's from that class. The fact remains that there are alot of former Dragon's playing college ball.
