I heard he told the kids today. Is there any mention as to his replacement?

Maybe another former player who is a coach that will continue the tradition and continuity of years past, R. Bruce?

judson needs to go get someone who knows how to coach a very balanced attack that will set judson up for years to come. This news makes me very happy though :)

That's good news.
You want to know the funny part about Mangold? He was maybe the most hated coach in Judson history, but coached in 2 title games in the 3 years he was at Judson!:D

I agree, it was time for him to leave, during his time the offense went backwards. I hope we look outside for someone that has experience in the power game that we are now back to. This person should also be the assistant head coach, it is time to start grooming someone for Rackleys replacement. The news was met with a bunch of high fives in our household,

Yeah, it's ironic that the past three years Judson has probably had it's worst regular season record and yet. made it to the state championship game twice.

I have never hid my feels on him, I never liked him. My son said that he was an alright guy but I don't think he really knows what it is like to coach a team like Judson with the tradition we have. This is just my .02 I know what alot of you may said about them but they are how I feel.

My son has blind respect for all the coaches. I don't dare criticize the play calling I didn't agree with or anything else relating to his coaches. I personally was hoping for an offensive change in the next season. Guess that will happen for better or worse. I wanted to see a more balanced offense with regards to especially the short passing game and options, even though we are losing the QB and all the TE's. I would like to see the three returning RB's integrated into some short passing situations to get past the defenses that we couldn't run through. My questions are; is Coach Mangold going to take anyone from Judson with him (now or in the future) and what advantages is Madison gaining in our future contests?

I'm not trying to start anything. I just think situations like these are interesting because one school bad mouths the guy going out and the other school loves the guy that is coming in and the bottom line is he either is or is not a good OC.

He is still a Maverick at heart. His kids will go to Madison and he has the possibility to become the head coach when Streety retires. He would never be the HC at Judson. Yes, he was the OC when Judson went to the finals 2 of the last 3 years, but that was largely due to the defense as previously stated. In the 3 years that he was the OC, Judson ppg average dropped 12 points. In his 1st year as OC, he inherited a senior laden OL from the previous OC, now AD. He changed the blocking schemes which is his perogative and the Rockets struggled. The last 3 games of the district, he went back to old blocking or near old blocking schemes, players got healthy and thus the run to the state finals. Execution by players goes back to the coach. Rockets made it to the state finals because of defense. Judson's gain is Madison's loss. Now, if he would just take one of our school board members with him. GL at Madison.

Honestly its not that bad. They started working on tearing down the stadium on Monday but the weather slowed things down. They are probably looking around for a good Oc (We should look at Wagner)

Today is Coach Mangold's last day at Judson. I guess he has to get busy at Madison? The players have no idea who his replacement will be and are assuming it's QB Coach Anderson. Does anyone have any information on this?

I guess we'll have to see how this next season goes. It's funny, the trainer could leave Judson and he would be immediately blamed for all of the losses.
You can always go and twist stats to the way you like them, the sheer truth to this is that he coached in 2 state title games in 3 years. I only saw one of the Judson games this year, (quarterfinal game I believe against an in-town rival at the Dome), and if Mangold was calling the plays, he did a helluva job.
My two cents worth is that anytime a coach is able to change offensive schemes around the talents (speed, size, or lack therof) and make it to the play-offs, he's done a great job. One of you mentioned that he changed the blocking schemes back mid-year. That sounds more like a good coach who is willing to admit a change needs to be made as opposed to the devil incarnate.
The way I see it, Madison is getting a steal. He knows the system, coaches and administration. He's coached in 2 state finals over 3 years, and done it with two different offensive systems.

We all wish him the best of luck at Madsion, but like I said it is time for a change. You only saw one game I sat through 30 plus games and was never impressed. The yards per game and total points dropped the last 3 years, and I would not say it was beause of poor talent. In three years we went to the spread then back to a power game, the question is why? Again we all have a niche maybe his is better suited for Madsion.

Maybe you ought to apply for the OC, Texas Red....tell me, do you know the line blocking adjustments for a three linebacker defense vs a two linebacker defense when running the toss sweep? Probably not. I guess you should stick to your day job. I wonder if there is a website I can join that critiques your last 16 weeks?

Take it easy there Lantern. It is obvious you are close to Coach Mangold. He was a large part of Judson Pride for the last three years and he has the players love and respect. He is an definitely an asset to whatever program he coaches. It is human nature for football fans to second guess things like play calling. That's why I think the term "Monday Morning Quarterback" is popular. Don't let any small criticism bother you. He is a great and well loved/respected coach that Judson is losing and we have to deal with it.

Going from power to spread in his first year was probably why he was hired (I'm guessing here). I think the QB that year was pretty athletic right and came back again the next season, right? Seems like a good time to try it, especially how that offense was the offense du jour in the state.
I think it's a fair point about you watching 30 games and me only seeing one. In that one game I did see, your QB was a great leader, but not exactly what I would call fast. Seems like another good time to switch back a different offense.
So I keep seeing that the only reason Mangold coached in 2 finals in 3 years was the defense. If Judson comes out and averages 50 points a game next year, then he's surely going to be lit up again on the message boards. So to be fair, when will be he validated? They don't make it to State? It seems the main argument to him being a good OC was that he only made it to the Finals because of the defense. So, following that theory, shouldn't Judson be back in the Finals next year because of the defense- and if they don't, will it be the new OC's fault?
I think at some point you do have to look at the head coach in this equation as well. I saw a lot of comments about Mangold's indecisiveness- how much of that was due to him and Rackley disagreeing?
I did finally watch the State finals game I had taped- the play action pass in the 4th quarter was WIDE open- somebody had been setting that play up all day, and they called it at just the right time- just a bit overthrown or a broken off route prevented that from changing the game. I'm curious- did the defense get credit for that play call?
Smart aleck comments aside, the Rockets played a great game that day- undersized and slower and they gave those boys all they can handle.

Sorry we disagree you have your opnion and I have mine. Like I said I am sure he will be missed at Judson but some will not shead many tears for him. Just because we are fans we still have the right to complain when we do not like things that why this is a board. You will find there will be many things that you might not like, but it is easy to say then "Why don't you do it" that is so outdated. If you are looking for a board since I see this was only your whopping 5th post that we all say positive things all the time you are wasting your time and will have to get over it, this is one of those times.

Yep, the pass was wide open and the reciever failed to continue running. And the defense did a great job in stopping ET in the red zone. The Rockets ran only 3 series in the second half on offense. The 4th and 1 decision not to got for it at mid field was the HC's decision. Play calling in the state game. My personal assessment was more play action should have been called because it was giving ET problems. No, I did not make that observation after the game. The OC's play calling wasn't bad most of the time, I just feel that he could have "coached" better and motivated the players more, especially the OL which was his resonsibility. I'm sure that he will do well at Madison, and could do very well if on realignment Judson, SV and Wagner are removed from that district. As for the validation, it's there as you said, along with the ppg average that declined over the 3 years. Numerous times over the last 3 years the defense scored or gave the Rockets a short field. I believe the Reagan game was the best offensive game Judson has played in three years. Good play calling and players who were highly self-motivated for that game. I wish him well and good luck except against Judson and Wagner.
