Titans fire offensive coordinator Chow
Associated Press
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans fired offensive coordinator Norm Chow on Tuesday after a season of struggling to score points and reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the dismissal in a short statement. Chow, who had been on staff for three years, and other Titans officials did not immediately return telephone messages left by The Associated Press.
But Fisher said the day after his Titans (10-6) lost an AFC wild-card game to San Diego 17-6 that improving the offense was his top priority this offseason. They ranked 21st overall in total offense and became the first team with only nine touchdown passes to reach the playoffs in a 16-game season.
After a week of evaluating the team, Fisher told Chow he would not be retained as offensive coordinator.
"I appreciate all of the hard work and contributions he made to the organization during his time here, but I have decided to go in a different direction and will start the process of finding a new offensive coordinator," Fisher said in the statement.
ESPN first reported the firing.
Fisher lured Chow from the same post at USC to the NFL in 2005.
Chow, 61, told The Tennessean he was disappointed and didn't see the firing coming. He said he thought he could help develop Vince Young, who threw nearly twice as many interceptions as touchdowns this season.
"Obviously, Jeff didn't think that I could. I thought I was. That's the thing. I don't know ... but it's going to take some patience," Chow told the newspaper.

Its about :Censor: time. Now all they have to do is draft Limas Sweed in the first round and then Jamaal Charles in the second or third. Then the Titans dynasty will be complete

Limas and Charles would be nice additions. I also think the O-line needs a touch up, so they get Tony Hills in the 4th Round, as well. Ummm... would they officially be accused of "trying" to relocate the U of Texas??
Letting Chow go is a little odd! I thought he was doing a decent job, with the WR'less Core that he had! Everyone new Young would need a little work, in taking him out of the Zone Read look he was most familiar with and honestly Chow had a little bit of that sprinkled in. Young DID complete 62% of his passes. However, he also threw nearly twice as many INT's (many of them tipped) as TD's.

I think they gave up on Norm too soon.
Vince didn't have much help around him on offense.

Jamaal and LenDale could be the new thunder and lightning of the NFL.

That's possible. UT and USC running backs seem to transition quite nicely to the NFL, with the exception of Cedric Benson (I still think he would be better on a different team).

I agree! If Ricky wouldn't have gotten too much into the sticky icky, I still say he'd be one of the top 2 backs in the league.

Yep, I agree that Ricky was a hell of a running back before screwing up his career. Not many running backs could make cuts and run you over like he could.

They should let all their skill people go except VY - proving it was all Chow's fault.

I like this move. Anybody who has watched the Titans the past two years knows that Chow changed his entire offensive approach this year and it was a failure of epic proportions. No, there is absolutely no talent at WR and very limited talent at RB and instead of trying to hide those weaknesses, Chow upped their role in the offense. It was horrible. If Chow had continued as he did last year, he would still have a job, but he got too cute and after the job he did this year, a pink slip was deserved.

The Titans are expected to go after Mike Heimerdinger who is currently an assistant in Denver and was the Titans OC a couple of years ago when they had one of the better offenses in the league.

do you know what a dynasty is? I don't think you do. You have to generate some history to create a dynasty and 1 trip to the super bowl isn't enough.

holy hell, you take things to literally, i understood what he ment. it was more of the actual players being a dynasty in that they have stayed in the same team or state all thier lives, not that they won superbowls, aggy
