Could this really be the cut-off number for the bottom of 5A? That would move a lot of current 5A schools down, including some powerhouses. May have to change the website to 5A/4A Texas football to keep from losing too many posters.
According to another site this is around the projected number after confirming most of the larger schools enrollment numbers. Taking the top 245 schools the number falls somewhere around 2090-2100.

There are indeed discussions going around that a cut off for 5A will be in the neighborhood of 2100. The folks talking this high may be overstating the case slightly, but they do seem to be making sincere guesstimates and trying to confirm numbers that have been turned into the UIL. If it does go this high, then some respectable schools will depart 5A for the 4A world. Could make life at the 4A level a bit more interesting as well. But at least if this proves to be true, it will not have turned out to be Highland Park +1 this time around.

I asked this question on the 3a board and the answer was immediate and understandable. In 5a would the UIL just delete an entire UIL district giving someone a bye week in the 1st round just to make it all fit?

I don't think they would do that. The UIL would like for 5A to be around 245 school, but I believe that is simply a policy preference rather than a strict rule. They could easily go to 256 schools for a 32 district field.

Off topic here, but Dr E, were you in REB Photo today around 5:30?
I had to stop by Central Market on my home from work and could have sworn I saw your truck in that shopping center.
I usually run by Central Market 4x a week on my way home. Don't ask ;)
If I see it again I'll drop in and say hey.

Yes, I was in there with Bob until about 6:00 or so. I probably won't be there on Tuesday, but may stop by on Wednesday for awhile. Would enjoy talking to you again. Plus if you've never been inside REB, it is a Carroll experience! Back to the topic at hand.

quickly looking through all of KT's numbers in region 1 I see Cooper, Amarillo, Timberview, Turner, Jesuit, and Nimitz.

256 basketball schools - football would have a few less. And I think they have to hold a spot or two for new 2009 high schools that start at 5A.

I hear Seguin missed going down to 4A by 30 students and Seguin's enrollment number is 2054, so I'm thinking the 5A cutoff number must be 2025.

No argument with you on this. Just pointing out that it is not a huge stretch to get a full 32 districts in 5A. By the way, it has now been reported that Grapevine may be on the borderline as a 4A/5A school, assuming the number is around 2100. Do you know what number the 'stangs turned in? Or Heritage for that matter?

I know you knew. I should have worded that different.
Not everyone realizes basketball is the key sport in realignment as it has the most participating teams, and while primarily impacting the smaller school conferences does impact 5A some.
Based upon the attendance boundaries, I would have speculated that Colleyville would have grown and Grapevine would have held even. However an undated report on the GCISD web site lists Grapevine at 2088 and Colleyville at 2342, both down from their 2005 UIL numbers (2242, 2425).
Maybe Faith Christian and Colleyville Covenant are growing as I thought the "wave" should be in the high schools now.

So it could well be the case that chhs stays 5A (a certainty) and ghs drops to 4A if the cut is 2100. Wow; that is a huge decrease in the numbers for ghs when the population of the area seems to be growing. Is this a conscious decision of the part of gcisd to have grapevine go to 4A again, as they would likely be one of the larger 4A schools in the state? Ridge looks like it comes up to 5A and would likely take the place of ghs in 5-5A.

That might just be a rumor; no one knows the cutoff line until Realignment Day.

At first I was skeptical of the 2090-2100 number being the cut-off. But...it looks very real now.
Looks like Cooper, Timberview and Legacy are going to be 4A. Contrary to other rumors, Amarillo has 2100+ and will be staying 5A.
It really looks like Abilene and maybe San Angelo are headed to DFW, and the rest of the West Texas and Panhandle teams will be lumped into one super district.
I know DFW is losing a district also, but we know Houston or the San Antonio to Austin corridor schools can use a district.

I think the only conscious decision is to not change attendance boundaries. We'll leave all those headaches for Keller ISD.
After looking at the numbers on the web site and the TEA numbers from 2006-2007, I can see that enrollment in GCISD is just beginning to drop. It's possible both schools could be in 4A by fall 2012.

Changing attendance boundaries can indeed be a political nightmare for the board. Still I am surprised that gcisd would want such a gap between schools that led to different classifications. Of course, we don't know that yet. With the population growth in your district, I am still quite surprised that numbers are falling. It must be the case that only younger folks are moving in who do not have high school age children.

If this were to happen, the Mansfield ISD AD has, in the part when Timberview was 4A, forced the schools to schedule each other in non-district.
Hence - I sure hope Summit gets put in a salty district so the boys can get seasoned before the playoffs. With two manadatory non-district games against teams Summit ought to smoke, it will be hard to cobble together a decent non-district schedule.
