We've rehashed the best restaraunt/best food thread a bunch. What's your least favorite place. Is there a place you just can't abide going? A place that makes your guts churn?

For me, it's gotta be Denny's. I almost never go there. The last time I went to Denny's, it was after an old roommate got terrifically drunk and wanted to go get some food. He was leaving whether I liked it or not and so I decided to drive him so he wouldn't kill himself. I took him where drunk people belong-- Denny's. I had not been to Denny's in years. The last time I went it was outside of an airport or something. He ordered a big plate of crap and was loving it, I made the mistake of ordering food at Denny's sober. Words cannot describe the horror of Dennys. I looked around. Sure enough, I was the only sober person eating the food. Denny's has a great thing going here, serving food to drunk people, but I don't recommend it for those of you non-drunks like me.

The worst meal I ever tasted was also the most expensive. Some Indian restaurant in SA and the plate was like 30 something dollars. IT was bland and tasteless... and this is me that will eat jsut about anything. But my friend loves Indian so I went with him. THe only time I ever regretted buying food.

Worst food?

Every time I go to McDonalds!! Right, Rocketgrl??

:D

My wife and I went to a "Tex Mex" cuisine place, on Fashion Island, in Irvine, California. Money dripping from the place.

I guess our taste buds weren't ready for the expensive stuff, for neither one of us could eat ANY of that crap, save the chocolate covered strawberry. That is saying something, for I can eat ANYTHING! Ask Chainsaw, he will vouch! At any rate, the "food" was nasty. What do you expect? Mexican Food in a swanky area of California. "Tex-Mex" food in California.

Bleh!

As I read this I can't help but crack up. Denny's was our favorite spot to go around 4am when in school. We loved us some Denny's then. A step up for us was Waffle House. Nothing beats those two during a late night/early morning.

The food I absolutely hate is the place everyone at work loves to eat at and thats freaking Pei-Wei. Or as I and many others like to call it, pee-wee.

I don't think you should ask not to pay at a restraunt if you don't like the food. Tastes differ.

The only time you should send something back is if it's cooked wrong (for instance, if your steak is extremely under or over cooked; or if it's so salty that you can't eat it, something like that) or if it is not what you ordered, and you should do it as soon as you notice it. At the first or second bite ideally, and you should offer them a chance to correct it. Many good restraunts will comp your desert or something if the kitchen made a genuine mistake. (Note-- you do not get to ask for a free desert if your steak was "medium" instead of "medium well"-- that's just being a nitpicker).

Getting money back is another question. If you just didn't like the food, that's tough luck. If you discover a cockroach, if they serve you something spoiled or rotten, you should get money back. If that happened, I would demand money back if I had already paid or I would refuse to pay. I would not settle for credit or something at the restraunt, because I would not want something out of that kitchen. But only something on that order justifies asking for money back. If you eat it all, you lose your right to complain. You can't ask for money back at the video store if you don't like the movie.

You are absolutely correct. We dont even consider I-HOP anymore because not only will they not let you in, they will call the police when they see you leave and the only I-HOP in Denton is right across the street from the UNT police station. The UNT police have a pretty large jurisdiction in Denton too.
Denny's and Cabana are the two hotbeds for drunks in Denton after 2. We don't bother with Cabana because there are plenty of cops and its too far of a walk. Denny's never had police patrolling.
The funny thing about your post is the last time I ate Denny's sober was literally in the 1st grade after a play I was in at Church

I agree somewhat. For me when I'm not sober (I don't drink) I love more then anything to go to IHOP. Best food in the world when under the influence.

When not under the influence...it makes me want to throw up. I haven't smoked in 8 days and therefore haven't visited IHOP in that span either. Thank God :)

YOu think the way I do; I barely ate the meal that I purchased - but I just did not like it; it was cooked just fine and was exactly what I ordered. I would say I ate 1/4 of it (if even that) because I just did not like it. I considered it tough luck on my part and just left it there. OH WELL - and ironically I did end up going to McDonalds after I left my friends place after eating out.

It's Chilis for me. Not really because their food is so awful, but because I used to have a friend who worked there and so I ate dinner there every night (and a lot of times free) for like a year. Now, I am so burnt out on it that the mere thought of Chilis makes my stomach turn.

Maybe it's because I'm getting old but that place is just too noisey for me. I'll leave it to you younger folks. I don't like Willie's process either. I don't understand waiting in line to have someone write down your order. Then you find a seat where a 'server' picks up the sheet of paper and goes and puts it in a computer. What kinda crap is this? It must be OK to everyone else because they're always packed.

I like the Panchos' chain but theres only one or two left in SA. We drive 40 mins every few Sundays to eat there lol

I've eaten at El Rauncho...ummm...Pancho's twice in my lifetime. Once in lubbock and once in the dallas area. Both times, my bowels made a run for the border. It was like in Dumb & Dumber when Lloyd slips Harry the Super-Lax. It Liked to have killed me. Just driving by the one here on I45 just makes my stomach turn.

About a month ago, we had a Diversity meeting for work in Dallas, and someone had the brilliant idea of going to an Ethiopian restaurant for the first night's dinner. I was thinking, " Why not Fogo de Ciao? but oh well, I'll give it a try."

First clue had to be the empty parking lot( second best indicator of bad food after a skinny cook.) I am open to trying new stuff, but this food was so different, that even my self Jedi mindtricks routine woudn't work. There are no knives and forks. Everything was eaten by tearing off pieces of spongy bread and sopping up the meat and sauce. i could handle this. it was no different than bicuits and gravy or even fresh tortillas and carne guisada. After trying 2 or three entrees from the sampler plate, my stomach was turning.
I wanted to bolt, but this is for my job! I was representing my workgroup at a conference that said we were open to the differences amongst people. well let me say, the self discipline I learned from every step of running in football 2-a-days and the Marine Corps kicked in. :puke i faked eating it for about 30 minutes and one of the big bosses had to leave. i left 5 minutes later.

I went to my hotel room and had to let it go. back up it came!:puke I still don't know if it was voluntary or not. luckily, there was a Champ's sports bar around the corner, so i went and had a burger and some beer while watching football games and babes. Talk about your happy endings!

I will never eat at an Ethiopian place again, I just can't handle it.

Exact same thoughts on Willie's, and everyone think's it's so cool to go there. food isn't bad, but the set-up is terrible! I have drank 2 or 3 beers while in line waiting to order before, though. That place would get rocked in a college town...

El Chico and Casa Ole are right up there on the bad restaurant list. El Chico has these $7 plastic table cloths that are ripped and melted. I'm like "I'll pay an extra dollar if you'll replace this tablecloth". Has to be 20 years old.

Have to fully disagree with your view on Ethiopian food. Each time I eat it, I always enjoy it (of course if it's made right--I mean I like steak but if it's made wrong I won't like it). I go to town on the injera (the spongy bread) and especially how it soaks up the spicy juices of the meat and stew. The spicy chicken stew is also one of my favorites along with lentils and greens.

Good stuff for me.

Eh, nobody has the same tastes in food. It's all good. I haven't tried Indian food or Thai food so I may like it a lot or I might hate it.

As far as restuarants go...I really don't hate on one...just think some aren't worth what I pay for. I don't like Red Lobster for what they charge. Same goes for some BBQ places or Mexican restaurants. Not the biggest fan of Taco Bueno, Church's, A&W restaurants, Denny's, Waffle House, Zookini's, and others.

I'll probably find some place that I will pay lots of money for and it will make me wretch.

Who knows...

I think it depends on where the restaurant is located and whether it's a recent opening. The Denny's at Katy Mills is fine for breakfast. The one that used to be on I-10 at Hwy 6 was barf food.
I don't like the Blackeye Pea on Mason Rd. in Katy. I don't think cooked rice should be as hard as gravel. When it first opened in the 80's it was O.K., not especially great.

I think each Pancho's is different. We used to go to one in Dallas (maybe Richardson) every time we went down there and it was good stuff. There is one in Sherman, however, that is absolutely horrible. Yes, Harry from Dumb and Dumber horrible.

Ha ha. Back in my younger days. It wasn't unusual for me to have fries with BBQ sauce for lunch as the entire meal. It was tough not having a job. Of course they called it chips where I grew up.

I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the hispanic kitchen workers come out of the stall after taking a crap and he went straight to the kitchen. I told our waiter and he said there is a sink back in the kitchen they use.

You can take his word for it if you want to, but I'll never go back.

That would be across the pond?

Or New England!

:D

LOL. Wrong pond. Turn left to near the end of the other pond and head south.

Without a doubt the very very worst place I have ever ate was when me and my future wife ate at a supposed mexican fast food restaurant in Iowa. I lived there a few years in college when I went there on a baseball scholarship. That is when I found out that you never eat mexican food in the midwest. They have no clue. I love tex/mex food like most Texaans and thought everybody knew how to make it until I went north. OMG you have no idea how bad they are clueless on mexcian food. I missed real tex/mex food so horribly while up there. Love tex/mex

Anyways the place was called Taco Johns. I would say it taste like dog food mixed with some monkey snot but I am not exactly sure if I am right because I have never actually tried those two things. It was beyond bad. I found this article on them in wikipedia. When you read this article you will find out that I was telling the truth and then some. Nasty nasty place. Can't believe they have 24 of these in the midwest and north? How on earth is that place a chain? No wonder people up north are not big on mexican food. They have never really tried it. My grandparents love to come here and eat mexican food when they visit from Iowa.

2006 E. coli outbreak
In December 2006, a reported 50 people became sick and 18 people were hospitalized after eating at a Taco John's restaurant in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Shortly after that, Minnesota health officials reported that an additional 27 people became ill after eating at Taco John's restaurants in Albert Lea and Austin.[4] On December 14, Black Hawk County (Iowa) health officials stated that lettuce tainted with E. coli bacteria caused the rash of illnesses.[5] That same day, a Cedar Falls couple filed a lawsuit against Taco John's after their nine-year-old daughter was hospitalized for symptoms of E. coli.[6] Taco John's dropped its produce supplier, Bix Produce of St. Paul, Minnesota, as a result of the outbreaks

You don't even have to go that far North to get bad Tex-Mex food. I spent 6 mos. in Borger, TX (50 miles North of Amarillo) and the Tex-Mex there was awful.

Theres a IHOP here and it smells like raw sewage inside. Since then I have discovered the greatness of Waffle House! 1 on every corner in Georgia!

Yes there are. Also quite a few Huddle Houses too. Waffle House is HQ in Atlanta. A cool fact about Atlanta is there are more fortune 500 companies HQ in Atlanta than any other city in the country accept NYC and Houston.

Start Countin Waffle Houses, when driving from, say, Houston to Tallahasee on I-10, or Shreveport to Altanta on I-20.

Missed one? Not to worry. There will be TWO at the next exit!!

I haven't eaten at Pachos since the 60's when it was rumored they served something besides cow meat - I think it was horses. That was the same time that the Dunkin' Donuts guy down the street where my mom bought them every Saturday was busted for sneaking some weed into the donuts!! Things were so weird then:D. I did get a donut buzz a couple of times though - and not from the sugar;)

Worst restaurant is probably one that I don't go to! Seriously, I can't think of any that are just so terrible I won't go there so I've probably not been there yet. I don't care for Burger King too much or the various Wings places - I just don't like chicken with no meat on them. Any sandwiches you buy at a gas station should come with a warning label. When we were in high school, we used to go to K-Mart on Long Point at lunch - place would be running over with students - it was cheap and fast and you got to people watch...food was a disaster. That was when you could actually leave a high school campus to eat lunch...before Political Correctness and students with weapons took over.

so ture. I drove out to Athens for Christmas back in 01 with some close friends who were heading up to the mountains of North Carolina. I was sick before we left late Christmas eve. We hit Vicksburg and they asked if I wanted to stop and eat. I said no, we were approaching a waffle house at exit 1 I believe. Well I changed my mind and we pulled off on exit 4 or 5 and there was another and we ate. You ain't lying when you say that.
Can't speak for I-10 as I haven't driven that stretch in quite a long time.

Casa Ole in Lufkin is really bad. I ate there about 2 weeks ago after a 15 year hiatus (not kidding). The fajita enchiladas was grilled, dry chicken wrapped in a bad corn tortilla and covered in a can of bland queso.

I'll take another 15 years off - thanks.

Last time I had it it wasn't too bad.

I prefer KFC or Popeye's though.

Babes over both of those.

The worst food is Tongan food. No taste unless it's horse  . The problem with Tongan cuisine is it's focus. Nobody cares about taste - because they're all consumed with Quantity.

For food sometimes volume is better. I want to be filled up after I eat not still hungry.

But I will admit I may not like the taste of it either.

And I like me some chep pizza especially when it fills me up.

I do like Cici's buffalo pizza though.

My kid ordered a 3 topping pizza from Papa Johns. Chicken, Tomato and Mushroom. That was very good. Their pizzas are 10.00 any way you like it.
