I saw where Matt Flynn was from Tyler. Can anyone tell what high school he played at and when did he play there?

I could be wrong, but was he on the team that beat Westfield in the championship game? Robert E Lee high school?

Matt graduated from R.E. Lee in Tyler in 2002. His team lost a very close semi-final game to Midland High at TS - an upset in my book. The '04 squad won state for Lee - probably an equal, but not superior team to Lee in '04. Matt was at LSU 5 years.

That Lee team beat Lufkin twice - almost impossible to do. Lufkin lost in the semi's that year to SLC - peeing away a 30-14 lead late in the third qtr.

What I remember about Matt was he was probably the best third and fourth down qb I can recall. Made huge plays when his back was against the wall.

And, he does look like Matt Damon's younger brother.

did he play in 02 or graduate in 02? Because if he is class of 02, this would be his 6th year in college.

02 was his last HS playing year - graduated 03.

He was a great QB. Saw him against Waco in 2000, 2001, and 2002. He was good with play action.

I saw Matt play several HS football games. He missed out on a State Championship, but now has a National Championship. I fairly sure that this will remove the disappointment of not having a Texas HS championship :)

Great QB that never quits. Could have mailed it in, sitting the bench last couple of years, but hard work and determination pays off.

Congratulations Matt!!!!!!!

Does he have NFL quals? It'd be great to see another Texan in the ranks.

Favpack was dead on with his answer about Matt. Many folks in Tyler believe that the 02 team was actually better than the 04 team. As is so typical at playoff time injurys hit the 02 team hard including Matt who played most of the playoffs with a broken foot and it really showed against Midland. We are all very proud of him as well as Ciron Black on their championship at LSU.

dont forget that MATT wasnt the only LSU player from tyler ciron black a starter on the offensive line, started on lee's state team in 04. LEE had two players on lsu's team this year.

i think the 03 team was lee's best team. talent wise. but, the 04 team had the best offense ever at lee.

I watched the game and was very impressed with the way Matt moved that offense. Having some good tailbacks to keep the defense guessing helped a lot too. I also wonder what are Matt's prospects for the upcoming NFL draft? I can think of a few teams that could use his skills...

Ty does not play baseball at A&M. He played for 4 years at Oklahoma St. He was drafted this last June by Chicago Cubs in the 7th round and has already made a few moves up in their minor league system. He finished high school at Wills Point.

Congrats Matt as well. I was glad to see him win that championship. I remember the heartbreak of that 02 semifinal game. That was also the game that Tyrone Ross broke his arm early in the game.

I think that Matt will get drafted in the later rounds of the draft. He has good size with a good, accurate arm and good leadership abilities. He has SEC experience. I think that alone should earn him a draft pick and a shot at making a team.

Yeah Lufkin lost 2 very close games to a Flynn led Lee team that year in 02. That was LP's last loss at Abe and it was by 1 point in ot with a very controversial call. Yes that 02 team was very good. Beat LP when they were #1 in the state. So what years was he there again? Lufkin beat Lee bad in 01, split with them in 03 and beat them in 04.
