I had to give me boy a hard time after the game. He runs the INT back to the 1 yard line and didnt get in. He was like I was going to juke him but I though I had the TD (LOL) For the poeple around the state that has not seen Mandela play he is a monster 21 Tackles in the Nacogsoches game and was the MVP lastnight against Klien Forest. I have said it for the longest Mandela is as good as the magical Sergio Kindle.

Hey Rclisle411 ....... I believe these were your exact words regarding your (then) upcoming game with Rockwall, "As far as Rockwall is concerned they will get theirs come Friday night".
Search the whole internet and you won't find me "shootin off my head" about what Lufkin is gonna do. That's the difference between LP fans and some of the Lobo fans. And you wonder why ya get no respect ........ LOL (good fun)!
This is high school football ..... right now there is'nt but one team that can puff their chest and proudly proclaim that they are still the best ....... if you can't figure out who that is, I bet you can ask for some help ..... and get it!

Yeah -- surprised Mandela didn't punch it in - he was actually running too fast - and just kinda stumbled down. Give him a hard time for sure :) -- tell him that's why he doesn't play fullback anymore.

Not that it really matters but Lufkin led that game 27-7 with about a minute left before Nac scored a meaningless TD on the 2nd team. First time since '98 that Lufkin hasnt beat Nac by about 40 and Panther fans have had to hear about it ad nauseam.

What was the score at half time? I would say 7-7 got any LP fans who thought they were state champs straight just like our game with Rockwall brought alot of Lobo fans back to reality. And Longview could also throw out a list of of excuses as to why Rockwall played us so close....but hey we won and y'all won....I was throwing a joke back at packman. We both have great teams....why don't we root for each other and hope for a match up in the third round. If SLC goes D1 I really think the state champ from D2 will come from the third round matchup in Region 2. Let's hope that matchup is LP/Lview.

Lufkin barely beat a 4a team Corsicana i believe?? early in the year in 2001 and Lufkin went on to win the 5a div2 championship at 15-1. That game was a lot closer then the Nac game this year that is for sure. Just proves that some nights great teams do not always play at their best and the other team is pumped up to play a great team and they are playing out of their minds and giving 110 percent to pull off a major upset. It happens!! Biggest thing is this!! Just win baby!! ;)

Oh and a half means nothing rclisle!! That is why they play 4 quarters. I have seen many teams hang around at half or to the 3rd quarter vs Lufkin until the pack puts them away. Big difference between the Nac and Rockwall game also. Yall won on a last second field goal and Lufkin was up 27-7 with 1 minute left with the 2nd string in. Can't compare those 2 games besides the fact they both won and that is all that matters.

Sometimes teams do not bring there best every fridaynight but give Longview credit they did what they had to do to get a win. Plus Rockwall is now pushover they did beat Tyler Lee and I feel that Lee would be a playoff contender in most districts. Like Nacogdoches we came out flat plus That was the best Nac team since Rico Harris and DD Lee. But what do two great teams like Lufkin and Longview have in common is they both take care of business when it is crunch time. Now we have to take care of Business against Huntsville Saturday cant get ahead of ourselves even though we are bout a 70 point favor.

You're right it doesn't matter, but since you make the point about the ending score I will say Nac is a weak 4a team who prolly won't even make the playoffs. You can't tell me you weren't thinking twice sitting there 7-7 at half. That game should've been put away in the 1st quarter just like Lview should've won easily.

Update Nac is 4-3 or 5-3 and all 3 losses were to elite teams in their classification in close games. The only one that was not close at the end was the Lufkin game. Nac played both Kigore (defending 4a div2 champs) and Marshall ( 4adiv1 finalist last year) down to the very end. Nac actually had more total yards then Kilgore. Check the fact's before you say are a weak 4a team like they usually are. The only reason they might not make the playoffs is because they are in the toughest 4a district in the state no doubt. They are 3-2 in district i am prettty sure??

Yeah Mandela is a stud and we all know that!! He has been a ball hawk and a natural lb since the first time i saw him out there a few years ago. I knew he would be big time. He is a great kid/man with a great family also!! He is the most talented of the very talented lb crew. Hey purplenation ET is my twins big panther and he seems like a good kid after talking to him several times. I know he had his problems his soph and junior year but he seems to have really got it together. I did not even realize his sister was the one that broke the record in the high jump. Impressive genes!! He wants to go to Tech and i am sure he will get an offer from there?? I do not know who would win in a foot race between Mandela and Eric?? Both are extremely fast lb's. Stu is looking great also!! Jeff is solid and i noticed a #40 getting some playing time on 3rd and long situations. What is his name i forget?? Joe moved to db this year and is killing some of those poor wr's. LOL

Mandela would smoke Eric in a foot race. Going into my SR year Mandela beat Shankle in the 40 when they raced, but now EJ runs a 4.38 so he has Mandela beat(4.49). Nobody I mean nobody could get us more fired up then Eric could before a game. FYI Eric almost went to state in Triple Jump he lost when sombody beat him on there final jump. Tasha is also his sister she will probly win state next year jumping as well. Eric is a great person and very good friend of mine I expect to see him playing for Tech in a year. #40 is Cam Davis him will lead the LB corps in 06 so we still have a bright future. Stu Willy is a stud as well I really do miss playing with them guys. Yeah Eric is a good person and has turned a complete 180 from 2 years ago.

Stew,Mandela, Murph, and Me had some good times last year. Then for playoffs Cam and Trent came up at LB also Jeff is a good LB as well. It is amazing how Mandela has completly taken over the games this season and has been the leader for the defense. Although sometimes I would like to see him back at RB. I rmember at a JV game when he was a freshmen against Marshall. He had 6 carries over 200 yards and 3 TD's until he got hurt in the 2nd qtr but man could he run the rock. JV was the good old days though but we grow up and some of up play college ball and the rest of us play X-Box.

Peoples won district in the 200M dash Raven Hayard from Lee won the 100M dash with a 10.6 but yeah poeples was the fastest big person I have ever seen in my like. He beat Shankle in the 200M dash to win district. But then again Shankle was a Sophmore and now he runs a 21.4 in the 200M.

You're right, Ravyn Hayward won first with a 10.99 with Peoples right behind with an 11.04, and E.J. Shankle was 3rd with an 11.09
Corderra Hunter won the 200 that year as a sophomore with a time of 21.99 and Shankle too second with a 22.63.
If this is the case, Shankle was actually a freshman.

Yeah I remember I was there I was running on the JV for Lufkin I totally forgot Shankle was younger(Stupid Me) I do know that the year after that Raven ran 10.6 in Regionals and last year Shankle took 2nd in the 200m dash in State with a 21.40. But man could peoples move. Shanke; fastest time in the 100 was his Sophmore year he never ran the 100m his JR year and he ran a 10.65 just think what he could run now maybe 10.3 there is alot of speed in East Texas. One of the coaches was saying that Peoples speed was due in large part to his leg strength. He could deadlift 650, so he was literally tearing up that track. It also helps to be about 6'2" and have a long stride.
Honestly, I never knew he was that fast until a Longview Lufkin game when Holeman or one of the other receivers caught a long pass right before half and Peoples trucked it all the way down there and almost caught him at the goalline. It's too bad he was always getting double teamed and couldn't replicate the stats from the year before.

It was Holeman and I was wondering why you had him at DT instead of a Pass Rushing OLB and being 260 he could have stoped the run. So were if Peoples now is he playing at the next level.

By the way pack fan's did you look at the stats today in the paper!! 82 freaking tackles behind the line of scrimmage in only 7 games!!  That is well over 10 a game!! Not to mention 17 sacks playing mostly all running teams. Finally using the right style!! i told yall before the season started that those type of stats would happen by being aggressive!! ;) They always had a great defense but this year they have at least as much talent on defense as the great 2003 defensive team or more and they come at you BIG time with all of that speed. They still have not been tested by a great offensive team but i like their chances to hold their own when they do.

The 2003 Team was probly the best team in Lufkin's History and they lost in the 1st round. That is what happens when you dont come to play. I really believe the 2003 team would have been 16-0 if Wood would have been the starting QB.

Correction, They were the most talented team in Lufkin history but not the best TEAM!! Their problem was the TEAM part by the end of that season. By the way, that 2003 defense had 8 future div1a players on it alone!! 5 went in 2003 and 3 went in 2004 but all were a tandem on that 2003 team. I wish they ran this type of aggressive defense they are running now!! Hey but this 2005 defense might be every bit as good or better as the 2003 defense i do not know?? We will see what happens??

The best Lufkin Team
the 98 Panthers
4 players off that team are in the NFL
T.Kiel
S.Hamiliton
R.Hadnot
D.Mulbach
and we had many other players played D1 college and that year we got beat in the State quarterfinals.
The 98 team had everything LB- W.Smallwood, L.sheppeard,l.adams,
Secondary. T.Bolton,t.kiel,D.rodgers,c.flakes. all played college football
QB-b.bradford-punter at UT
RB- T.williams played at lincold college and then we had P. Williams (Dink)
WR-S.hamiliton,d.jones, Rm mcneil yes Reggie played WR his freshmen year
OL-r.hadnot,r.ferguson,D.mulback,A.mccoy, and JUparks
that team was loades with people
me and purple nation maynot agree he things his years were the best but he knows his big brother played with the best panther team that SET the tone for the future panther Teams to come. because after that year is when Panther football took off like a rocket.

That 98 team was not dominant like the Lufkin teams since 01 but they were extremely talented no question. One of the most talented ever at Lufkin!! I saw all of those teams play almost every game and the 2003 team had the best defense with the 1998 team a close second. This 2005 defensive team might be better then both!!

I think the best offense in Lufkin's history was the 2002 Panthers. They put up the biggest numbers of all time in Lufkin's history. They were missing a great defense or they would have not been touched. They had a good defense but not great. They needed 1 more year to become great. Too bad we could not have combined the 2002 offense with the 2003 defense??

I know who they play and what type district they are in. Hey they stomped Huntsville, Lumberton, and Pine Tree...I think they can pencil them in as the state champs. LOL We are getting off topic anyways....I was just making the point that both teams have been humbled.
Lufkin led 27-7, and Nac scored on "Oh by the way" TD late in the 4th on the 2nd team. Not quite as humbling as having to beat a 3-4 team on a last second FG.

The 98 team we may not have been more dominant but i beg to say that the district was much harder then. with JT being #1 and longview #3 and we came in at #5 that year. and NAC team was decent and tyler lee was good to and then you had Marshall with starling and todd and company so there was a lot of talent back in them days compared to playing in today district

And somewhere in the midst of all of this....
the late 80's Lp teams get lost in the shuffle.
Lufkin didn't just start playing football 'ya know...?
There were a ton of good teams before 1998.

It was Holeman and I was wondering why you had him at DT instead of a Pass Rushing OLB and being 260 he could have stoped the run. So were if Peoples now is he playing at the next level.
I'm fairly certain he's in jail. He had Louisiana-Lafayette and a couple of other schools wanting him as an OLB, but I don't know what happened.

I am not talking in terms of just today's current district. The 2002 and 2003 teams had just as difficult schedules. The 2003 team played 6 or 7 top 10 teams in the regular season!! The 2002 team had a very tough schedule also. Either way, the 1998 had tremendous talent but they were just missing something that would have made them dominant?? Many of the 00 teams would have crushed that Lake Highlands team that Lufkin lost to in the quarterfinals that year in my opiniion. The 98 team was missing their starting qb in that game and i think that made a huge difference.
