For the past few years - one of the more anticipated moments among Lufkin Panther seniors is...."who gets the Scrapbook"?
Yeah, it sounds odd - but the Scrapbookin' Grandma holds one of the more coveted items among seniors. She holds her decision of the winning senior a secret until the season is over - and her book is complete. She's approaching a decision, but, still no verdict.
Read the story about the love of HS football here:

While we gladly embrace the winner regardless of her decision - I think most fans would like to see WR James Davis take the book. He lost his father and his house burned to the ground in a 6 month time span - and he was still a great on and off-field leader, in addition to becoming the head of his house.

That is a wonderful story! As someone with a mom with arthritis, that scrapbook is good for Granny too and truly, truly a labor of love. I hope that those Panther players always stay in touch with her and return a little of that love. What a great lady!

That is AWESOME and one of the neatest high school football stories I've ever read/heard. What a cool grandma and absolute treasure for Lufkin High School.
BTW, one of you Lufkin-ites ought to give her a ride to a big game next year! The effort would be worth it for someone like that who is probably nearing the end of her life (relatively speaking, of course).

I agree totally Oak - I'm going to try. Her son is a good man that frequents the LP message board and I know he would take her if possible.
You've got a jammed full stadium and terrible ADA (handicapped) accessiblity. Trust me though, we've got a ton of senior citizen fans just like her. My better half and I often joke we're the only Pack fans within 50 folks without white hair in our section!

WOw what a beautiful story about the love Mrs. Thompson has for her Lufkin Panthers. It's no wonder the chosen player will cherish this scrapbook in the years to come.

Wow, what an awesome story. That just made my heart feel so good. I admire what she does not only for what she does but just someone that completes it. My daughter's scrapbook still isn't done and she just turned 18...years, not months!
What an awesome lady! Thanks for sharing a great story!

Scrapbookin' Grandma finished the book - and the winner is....wr James Davis (as I hoped for).
Coach Outlaw gets to read it for a few days, then he passes it on to Band director Scott Williams - who will then award to it senior James Davis. Here's the announcement from LufkinPantherSports.com
The book goes to...James Davis. Thanks to all of you who told us that he was your choice. If you get a chance to talk to him, ask him to let you see the book. It is wonderful! Coach Outlaw will have it for a few days until Band Director, Scott Williams, gets a chance to see it. Scott is the featured teacher/fan in the scrapbook.
Scrapbookin' G-Ma has already started on the book for this year! She is certain that she is going to be spending a lot of time at Hobby Lobby buying extension pages. It will take a lot of them for this year's STATE CHAMPIONSHIP scrapbook!

That's pretty cool. Kudos to the lady to put in all that work. :notworthy
My wife and Mrs Yucca do a lot of scrapbooking. It's a lotta work. My wife is way behind for this past season.

Those of us that have been around HS football awhile know it's really not about rings or wins/losses. I was saddened to hear Scrapbookin' Grandma had to go to the hospital. Read this excerpt from the Panther board from PantherBand75
Once again, Scrapbookin' G-Ma has had to be taken back to the hospital. She will be having a cardiac catheterization on Friday morning. Please remember her in your prayers.
She had a great surprise visit earlier today. Last year's scrapbook recipient, James Davis, went to see her in the hospital. She was thrilled. One of his friends was with him and unfortunately, she can't remember his name. But, she truly enjoyed both young men and it brightened her day.
She is determined to get out of the hospital soon and continue working on the 2008 scrapbook. It's already looking great!

Well - Scrapbookin' Grandma has finished the 2008 version and she has picked..... JaMarkus McFarland - as this years winner - congrats JMac!
I actually thought she was a little late this year due to health, but I see the announcement was actually a week earlier than last year. Here's a note from her son on the Panther site:
Jamarcus McFarland was the recipient of this year's scrapbook. As usual, Mom has already started planning the 2009-2010 Panther Football Scrapbook.
We did a few things in this past year that we will probably continue. We included lots of pictures of fans, t-shirts, and Little Panther Fans! At the games this fall, if you see me (I'll be wearing my hat!) I'll have my camera! Please let me get pictures of kids wearing their Panther duds and of T-shirts, caps, painted faces, etc......
Remember, I'm not hard to find at the games! My sister is in a wheelchair and I always have on my hat!
GO PANTHERS!
