I would never resign from a job that involved:
A. Living in Hawaii
B. Getting paid to be around college football

I would imagine he will take the SMU job. A lot of people knock SMU, but Jones will have more money, infinitely better facilities, resources and support and even with all the schools that recruit DFW so well, he will have better talent than he did at Hawaii and he will actually have a budget to recruit.

Hawaii's AD is beyond horrible. Supposedly, Jones sent the AD a list of 19 things that needed to be done to keep the program growing and the AD refused to do one single thing on the list. Jones' recruiting budget at Hawaii was just $50,000. That's it. $50,000 to try and recruit the mainland is absurd. The guy built his program off of recruiting Hawaii and taking players nobody else wanted.

i second what jtk said...june jones hasn't visted the mainland in 3 years for a recruiting trip. that's how bad the budget situation was. he needed to move on, and at this point, smu (or most any other job) will be better.

I'll tell you what, if SMU get Jones, that is bad news for Todd Dodge because Jones will come in and immediately eat up the talent Dodge has been eyeballing. I think Willis can come in and run the run n shoot and SMU has some decent WRs as they have been running a spread offense for a while. Jones will also bring in a lot of JUCO kids that will make an impact right off the bat and that might be enough to get SMU off the ground.

I saw SMU twice this year and there is some definite talent coming back on offense.
Yes, jtk. Several people have said Tech will be the best in Texas next year!:D

Agreed. I think Jones will be much better off at SMU, assuming he takes the job, than Dodge is at North Texas. I just don't see Dodge being successful... Jones already has the credentials by building Hawaii up with nothing to work with. IMO, players will want to play for a coach who turned a nothing program into a BCS contender than a HS coaching legend who turned a nothing program into.... nothing.

TCU is going to bring in Mouse Davis or something so they can compete on offense with its fellow metroplexers UNT and SMU...;)

If Jones takes over as SMU,don't be surprised if Dodge is forced back to the
HS ranks within 2 years,which he really belongs,IMO!!!!

I have had my share of picking on Dodge, but you can't deny what he is trying to do...
UNT's Offensive Production
2006 = 2,800 total yds/14 tds/20 ints (18 sacks)
2007 = 5,000 total yds/39 tds/28 ints (40 sacks)
Outside of the int's and sacks still being a problem (due to leftover talent level), UNT made significant strides, offensively. Defensively, UNT was horrid!!! Then again, outside of the OU, Arkansas and Troy games, UNT was competitive in every game, this season! We will see what Dodge is building over the next few years.

I went to high school in Hawaii and spent my first year of college at the University of Hawaii, so I've always been a supporter of the Warriors. It's sad to see Jones leave, but I totally understand. They don't put any money into the program. It must be EXTREMELY frustrating for a coach to coach out there and see all the possibilities if the admin gave some support to the program. Hawaii has a lot of talent and most of it came off-island until Jones got there. I'm afraid it's going to go back to those days.
Hawaii's gotta spend the money if they want to be competetive in big time college ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jones brought Mouse Davis with him to SMU. I think Mouse is currently on Glanville's staff at Portland State and if Jones can do it, he will probably try and put Glannville and Mouse on his new staff. If not, I bet Glannville is the new HC at Hawaii and then Mouse will have a decision to make.

players, especially texas ones, will play for dodge before june jones. mark it down. why? dodge has ties here that jones will never have. he's got more public appeal. players in texas have heard of dodge...i hadn't heard of june jones long before this season started. he knows where to look for talent. he's got "people" in good places that will cast good words about dodge.

You're wrong. Jones just took a ragtag team to a BCS bowl and he's a former NFL coach who has done a decent job of putting players into the NFL. Everybody knows that. They also know that Jones has made record-breaking players out of average athletes. Jones will win the head-to-head recruiting battles initially... no question about it. Dodge is going to have to win and win big to change that.

i'm basing my argument on the fact that dodge will win...if he doesn't, then of course jones will win the recruiting battle. but as of now, dodge has the big edge over jones in the recruiting battle.

I would certainly rather play for Jones than Dodge. Jones is the real deal, Dodge is flashyness.

If Jones takes the job tomorrow, he will beat Dodge in head-to-head recruiting before another game is even played. Jones walks in with a pedigree and resume Dodge can't even begin to match.

I agree but I think they both will be able to find good enough players to play in their system.
