i'm sure this stat isn't kept, but after listening to 1 1/2 lp games, i have never heard so many tackles for losses. kf is now at -1 yd rushing for the game. they did the same thing to klein last week. their defense is outstanding. i bet fully 1/3 of kf's plays are for losses.

lufkin's d is so fast they are in the backfield before the play starts
you can't stop mandela roberts
hopefully they have the d to stand up to slc or longview offence if they play them

in the LV/Lufkin scrimmage, LV moved the ball ok against the first team Lufkin D. but to be honest they were in the backfield a whole lot and since it was  JUST  a scrimmage some of those missed tackles have been corrected....extremely fast, hard hitting........

They are finally using the right scheme that i have been begging for them use for years. They play man to man 99 percent of the time and they are very agressive and blitz several players on most downs. Kind of like a Steeler type defense but it is in a 4-4 instead of a 3-4. You never know where they are coming from?? They are finally taking advantage of their speed and athleticisim!! That is why you see so many more tackles behind the line of scrimmage and so many more sacks. Do not get me wrong Lufkin usually always had a top 10 defense in their old scheme when they never blitzed and played a lot of zone but this new style lets them take advantage of all of their athletic skills. The old scheme is better for slower and less athletic defenses. I was thrilled when i heard Coach Quick said he was going to a different style of defense because i knew they would thrive in this type of scheme. They might give up a big play here and there on screens and long pass play's do to being so aggressive but the positives severely outweigh the negatives and Lufkin has a good enough secondary this year to handle the straight man to man coverage.

If Lufkin is as good as ya'll make them out to be on these boards they should be competeing in the Big 12. I mean everyone on their defense runs sub 4.3.

I can't wait to see them play somebody that is good. Probably won't happen until the second round.

Nobody said that come on?? It is a 4.7 or better and it not just the Lufkin fans that have been hyping the defense. Lufkin is always a very very good hs football team lately but hardly a college team and nobody is saying that either. Spare us the gay sarcasm. They will have 5 to 7 div1a recruits again though. ;)

Same Defense just alot more blitzing plus the LB corps returns both of its starters and that is Lufkin heat and sould of the defense #10 and #46

I'm kind of ready to see the LP D as well. I keep hearing about the speed and all. Hopefully there will be a game somewheres around the AMA early in the playoffs or something.

Thanks DD - the Defense brought it last night. Two blown cover calls resulted in KF's only points - no real scoring drives beyond that. This D is for real. Teams that try to hit the hard corner will be denied - period. A power rushing game such as Longview would pose some issues we haven't seen - we'll deal with that another day; and the D does have a tendency to over-pursue only because they can - so the screen pass call by KF was a smart one.

It is the same set a 4-4 but it is hardly the same style. Not even close man!! I know you played last year but i know what i have seen also. Lufkin would blitz maybe 1 or 2 times a game before this year. Now they send linebackers all of the time and db's at times. They play 10 times more man to man. In fact that is all they play now. They love to send db Joe Jackson on the outside also. The defense has always been very very good at Lufkin lately but this year they are being 100 times more aggressive like they should have been all along because they have the speed and athletes to do it. By the way, Eric Taylor started some last year at lb also.
