That reminds me of a story about some of the hurdles in getting accustomed to a new culture. My wife was filling out one of those forms that required her to list her race. The options were Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American, Asian-American, Other.
My wife checked "other" because for Russians "Caucasian" can only mean people from the Caucasus Mountains-- Armenians, Azeris, Chechens, Georgians, etc. She thought it was strange that people in the US were curious if she was Caucasian or not, though in Russia it's a pretty common question.
She asked me about it later, I told her that in the states, she should check "Caucasian", because we use it to mean "white." She didn't believe mefor the longest time. Somewhere, someone reading her form thinks she is from Papua New Guinea or something like that.

Ms Mad and I were living in our respective homes as we did the immigration thing...
Ms Mad checked 'Other' on her INS forms...
When she mailed them to me...I used WHITE-out to fix her errors...
At the final interview in Montreal...they asked about the white-out...a no-no I guess...
It was good for a laugh and she turned very red...:)

Tell me your secret. Mrs. Bird learned English at the British Council and from Russians trained in England. She insists that she's right and I'm wrong. I say, who are the English to tell me how to speak 'Merican.
