Lets just say that SLC did have to drop to 4A.. Would we still hear all the crap about how NO team has the depth of a 5A here in Texas?

Waco and DR- yes i think will go to 4a
I dont think SLC will because they have something like 2300 students (i dont have the numbers in front of me but they are on the UIL website)
It looks like Leander could take the nose dive down to 4a, and Pflugerville Connally would replace them.

DR is the size of a 4a now. UIL rules dictate that once a school moves classifications, it has to stay there for two years, so we had to play up this year.
We opened another new high school in Denton this year which dropped DR's attendance, so I don't see any way we will stay in 5a as this is our second year in this classification. Next year when the new school adds Varsity sports, it will take even more students out of Ryan.

Carrolls 9th grade class is our largest yet, so we won't be moving down.

oh i know! last year us freshman (currently sophmores) had the largest class, only to be broken by the fishy's this year, carroll high school is getting pretty traffic jammed in some spots, cant wait to get to the senior high, less packed!

i've heard that Richland from 5 - 5A is moving down...not that this largely affects anything or anyone

yeah i remember hearing it on the radio after the richland game last year, because i thought that it was weird that they moved up, then down immediately next realignment, i could be wrong though.
p.s. congrats on 4,000 d08

It's not set up so that someone "replaces" someone else when they move down.
Pflugerville Connally won't "replace" Waco. One might move up, another down, but they have no correleation to each other.
They just take the top 245 and put them into 5A. 244 of them usually play football (I think that Houston Lee doesn't). Then they drop the number of schools that play up down. So if even one school hadn't chosen to play up last year, HP would have been in 5A.
The cutoffs are determined by this. That's why the 5A number always fluctuates. It used to be the top 222, and then they made it the top 245. But it depends on the enrollments of the particular year.
I know that the two biggest classes in the state are 2008 and 2009, who weren't counted in the last alignment, so the numbers should be even bigger this year.
I think that 2000-2100 students will end up being the 5A cutoff.
