Killeen Shoemaker(2-2) @ #8 Copperas Cove(4-0)

Copperas Cove slipped by Waco last week in 3OT and Shoemaker beat Belton in a barnburner 45-43. I got the feeling that Cove will have no problem putting up at least 40, the only other thing is will the defense answer the call of Keith Smith and the stellar Shoemaker offense. I think they will. My prediction is Cove-42 Shoemaker-21. What are yalls thoughts?

Shoemaker puts alot of points on the board, but is unable to finish it against a good team (ala Consolidated). Their defense can not hold onto a lead.

Cove has only allow three touchdowns in a game, twice (Judson in week 2, and Waco last week, with 3rd TD in OT), Heights has scored the most times with 2 TD's an 2 FG's. That is that, Cove's defense will bend, but doesn't break often. I don't see them breaking against Shoemaker. Shoemakers passes quit a bit and look for Cove to have several interceptions and possible score on defense. I think Cove will flex some mussle in this one....

Against Belton, Shoemaker lead 24-3 at the half and allowed Belton to score
40 points in second half and it took a missed desperation FG from Belton for Shoemaker to hold onto a 45-43 win.

BigJuicy, you were in the game, what do you think about it? Am I off base here?

Shoemaker has a good offense I would not call them "stellar". Harker Heights shut them down so it has already been done. Shoemakers defense continues to be suspects. 43 points by Belton against them should raise some eyebrows for sure as well as giving up a 21-3 lead to AMC the week before. I believe Cove's offense is better then Shoemaker's defense. I also believe Cove's defense can stop Shoemakers offense. My prediction is Cove wins 31-14.

I agree Shoemakers offense including Smith is good. It is their Defense or lack there of that will lose the game for them.

Garner is the best Quarterback in 13-5a, he just doesnt get to show it as much cuz there are som many playmakers around him

Well it could go either way, i had a chance to look at Gardners numbers in the paper the other day and they were decent.

I will say i was very impressed with Gardners acuracy against Heights last year. This year in the air against heights he was decent but was finominal on the ground.

Maybe Smith is better of paper, but the most important stat in football for a QB in wins.

Ya i agree, Smith might have better numbers, because he is doing most of the work. I forgot who we played but Garner threw for 175 ran for 100 while we had two other backs over 100 a piece. The offense is more spread out through other players than at Shoemaker

Yeah shoemaker would have a more balanced offence if Pullard didnt fail out, he was really good.

I was looking at the box score and you guys scored like 40 points in the second half!! That was a heck of an adjustment or Shoemaker's defense just got on the bus home early.

And what school do you root for. Who cares about the past, its the present that counts and we are 7-0. We've showed we can hang with the states powerhouses and also that we can play sloppy and when against teams(Harker Heights and Waco). We'll go deeper this year around cause the boys won't get bigheaded like last year.

You must not know me and you must not know there are beter teams out there. I love HS football. I have been to a few cove games, and watched the rest of them on tv. I've seen alot of great teams play this season and I just feel we are overrated.

Who have we played that u would consider to be a powerhose or even a great team, Some say judson. I think judson had good teams in the past but know they arnt so great. They arnt even ranked.

Just because I dont feel that cove will get as far as u think doest mean I dont like cove. I graduated from cove, and I currently live in cove.

I couldn't tell you what kind of offense Cove runs. They will throw any play ever invented at you. The defense is a 4-3 . Cove is made up with ok size but makes it up with tons of speed.

You guys have a good team. AMC has a good team. Neither of us have what I would call a great team, mostly due to the way we've played against the other 13-5a teams. I'm waiting for both teams to step into that "great" category. But for me personally, that won't happen unless a team gets way deep into the playoffs.

I agree with what you are saying. We beat Waco in week 0 and I could tell that they had enough athletes to become very good if they could get it together! So, as far as them getting better from 7 weeks ago, I have no doubt that they have! But, we have also improved quite a bit.

I will tell you this, if CC and SC were to meet up, it would be one hell of a football game!

We aren't saying they are overrated, theyre right were they should be.We are making the point that when a top10 wins by just a few points they arent overrated, they either played a tough game or played horrible and were able to pull it out in the end

WHO CARES, THEY STILL WON. good teams do what they have to to win. if you win by 1 or if you win by 35, you still win. and my boy covedawg is right rankings mean nothin. ellison was ranked nationally a couple of times yet did they win a state championship, no. sometimes teams not ranked can win championship, so cove won. lets just wait until cove plays some teams in the playoffs then we can talk bout that, but we still have dtstrict games to play and on more spot in our freakin, tough district to give to heights.

Don't hate on the Dawgs, yes we have exited rather quickly each year, but we always will get their. What is your team?

Considering how long it took us to get there we enjoy the opprotunity when we make it as well as any other team in the state that makes it in. In two weeks, only three of the 8 teams in 13-5A will still be playing football. I'm sure if given the opprotunity those other 5 would love to be playing still.

Being realistic, i think Cove has a pretty good team and they have done well in some close games this year. The road gets tougher each week and Region 2 is the toughest region to win a championship in. It does not matter to me how far we go although i prefer to win it all. I am proud that the boys are able to compete. I think they are focused and are taking it one game at a time. Things are changing in Cove and hopefully they keep going in the right direction.

Friday night should signify who has the better team and who wins the District Championship.
