Nice story on channel 8 Sunday night about the rise of their program. It's good to see them getting recognition. The D1 playoff brackets set up well for them - they could be playing for a while. Pierce and Norton are having monster seasons, and the whole town is behind them. It would appear that this program has finally turned the corner.
Rowlett vs. Garland in two weeks will be a lot of fun.

Isnt Pierce the leading rusher in 5A so far this season? I know he has bee putting up monster numbers in just about every game they have played...

I think Rowlett is greatly underrated this year. They should be in the top 25 IMO. We'll see how they do against Garland.

I wouldn't it's a easy way in the playoffs. If you get out of round 1, Rowlett will have to play Berkner... isn't a team you want to mess with, with their high power offense.

May I ask who exactly Berkner has beat this year? Thanks. :D

Duncanville. Even if they're not very good this year you have to give them credit for creaming them. Berkner is much improved from the last few years.

OK, this isn't meant to be inflamatory, but I'll be to Berkner like I am to all teams without a winning pedigree who suddenly have a winning team.
I and anyone who understands HS football, including the teams you play, will take you seriously when you beat somebody in a meaningful game. A district rivalry against a weak sister or a win over a team that has a pedigree, but is obviously way down from normal, is not what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, it will probably be in the palyoffs before you get the chance to do this, but in reality, most teams will not take you seriously until you win a big game. All they will remember is that you were a perenial losing team in the Plano district.

True...but don't forget powerhouses like North Shore that have amazing teams year in and year out....and they play average, at best, teams throughout the regular season.
Let me ask your opinion of GARLAND vs ROWLETT?!!!
SLOAN vs PIERCE!!!
OWLS "D" vs EAGLES BIG "O"!!!

Actually, wouldn't surprise me if either team wins, and that's not a cop-out, just being honest.
Rowlett has momentum and adrenaline, but no playoff experience, and this will be their first playoff game, so to speak. Garland has an advantage of being there many times before and probably more talent all around.
The key to the game is Pierce vs. the Garland D. If Garland can contain him and Rowlett is unable to get 7 or 8 out of the box by opening up a passing game, then Garland will win.
Two predicitions:
If Garland can contain and stop any viable passing game to open up their run, Garland 31 Rowlett 10.
If Rowlett can expose Garland at all, Garland 21, Rowlett 20 in a nail biter that could go either way.

Let me get you in on a few stats. In 5a, Berkner is ranked 6 in total defense and 9 in total offense. Berkner has the most rushing yards in the class 5a also. You know the runningback from Pearce who ran for 357 yards (the most in a game this year for any school) against Richardson the week before Berkner... he only had 42 yards against Berkner. Pearce had only 143 total yards of offense, with no rushing yards (quarterback had - 40 something). Pearce had two scoring drives the last two possessions at the end of the game because berkner took out their starters after 3 quarters. Berkner is going to be a cinderalla team in the playoffs. Exactly what you said and think, everyone will downplay Berkner as a worse team of what they really are. That's why Berkner is going far into the playoffs.
ps. In 5a, there are only 3 teams that are ranked in the top ten in both offense and defense..... carter, mansfiel summit, and berkner

stats can often be skewed based on strength of sked. berkner's going to be painted with a broad, losing brush until they win some play-off games against some good competition. this year sets up well for the winner of the rowlett, berkner game to get either tlee or rockwall in rd 2. a couple of breaks in rd 3 and the semis will be a nice finish.

To be quite honest, you have a weak sister schedule in a weak sister district and you won't play a quality team until at least the 3rd round of the playoffs. It's the hard truth, but it's the truth.

It's nice to see programs like Berkner and Rowlett get some attention. Both teams are having a good season. Not sure about Berkner, but Rowlett's Freshman team is 7-1, their JV is 6-2 and their varsity is 6-1 with a game tonight. After tonight, Rowlett stands to have a compiled record of 20-4 for the year with two games remaining. Is this how programs begin to build foundations like the traditional winning programs?

Yes, from what it looks like, Rowlett should have some stout teams here in the next few years as long as they stay together and get better every year. Can't wait to see Rowlett maybe go to the Semi's, that would be awesome!
