View Full Version : James Aston ???
Does anyone know what happened to former Katy great James Aston? A friend and I were talking about Katy and his name came up.
I know he played football and wrestled at Ohio State as a freshman and then transferred and played football at Texas State in 2006, but is not listed on the roster this season. Is he done competing?

He's sitting around on the couch on the weekends eating potato chips and drinking a lot while watching football.
Just kidding, I truly have no idea.:D

he is at Sam Houston. He had to sit out this year after transferring from Texas State. He will be eligible to strap it up and play next season

to save this thread from becoming 1000 different responses and rumors on James let's set it straight now:
James went to Ohio St on a wrestling scholarship. He was invited to walk on to the football team and did so. He wanted to attend a college that would allow him to do both, and the wrestling coach at Ohio State did both football and wrestling in his college days, so he understood James' desire. That was a huge draw for James to the buckeyes. He redshirted in football his freshman year and wrestled in the spring. Not sure how he did in wrestling. After that season a new wrestling coach came in and since he was holding James' scholarship and not the football coach, he had the power to tell James to pick between football or wrestling. James wanted to continue playing football, but attending Ohio State without a scholarship was pretty costly I believe, and he could just transfer closer to home, walk on somewhere here and earn a scholarship. So that's what he did. He transfered to Texas State and backed up at runningback for the 2006 football season. He got a few plays in, scored a couple times I think. Long story short, he has now transfered to Sam Houston State, had to sit out this season due to eligibility rules, and will be playing as a Bearkat in 2008.

Hey. Thanks for the clear info. There are a lot of folks here with a lot of respect for his skills who will be glad to hear it. Glad he will be carrying the ball again. Good to "see" you. Will you be in San Antonio on Saturday?? :)

He should make a big impact at Sam Houston. That kid is super strong. I saw him at 24hr fitness not to long ago benching 315 for reps like it was nothing.

yep, I'm back in Texas and will be at the game Saturday. We lost our semi-final game over here in Lousyanna so now I'm back to supporting my alma mater. Let's get #5 Saturday

I spoke to him yesterday at 24-hour fitness. He said he was the No. 2 tailback this year and saw limited playing time mostly because of some nagging injuries. He expects to compete (and win) the starting job at Texas State next year. He did not mention anything about Sam Houston State. Good luck to James in whatever he does. He is a very nice young man.

This is 100% INACCURATE. As was mentioned previously, JA was on the SCOUT team (hardly #2, lol) at SAM HOUSTON STATE this past season and will be ready to go this Spring. Sam Houston's 2006 RB is currently in the NFL on Jacksonville's practice squad, and the 2007 starter was All-Southland Conference as a SOPHOMORE. The two backing up the '07 starter are extremely talented as well. My point is that JA will definitely have his work cut out for him in seeing any significant playing time at the RB position. ;)
