I don't know if Judson finished 4th in their district (for some reason i thought they did), but Pflugerville finished 4th in district 14-5a, losing to all of the rest of 14-5a's playoff teams. Last year it was Round Rocks shock the world tour as the 4th place team in 14-5a and this year Pville has surpassed Round Rock. GO PANTHERS!!!

I agree and have said it on here before. Most districts don't deserve 4, but the best districts do. 14-5A deserved more than 4 playoff berths this year.
Judson was the 4th place team in 26-5A.

I still stand behind the 1 team per district. Yes, it meant my beloved Eagles wouldn't have had the success they had this year but playoffs should be a reward for your regular season play, winning district.

It doesn't matter what district or region Judson is in. They would still have the same success

So if Judson was in the district with the valley schools they'd get 4th?

Yes, but look for a record score by Katy in the State Championship Game. This game will be even more of blow-out than last year's D2 Championship Game.

Look at Judson vs Trinity this will be a good close one!

I think Pville heard the same thing about Longview, and then the next week about Abilene. The way this Pville team is built, it makes it VERY hard for them to get flat out blown out unless they get a case of the fumbles. Their running game is, IMO the best in the state at this point in the year. The clock will be running the entire time Pville has the ball unless they run out of bounds. I would be willing to bet that whatever team wins, won't win by more than 17 points.

Has anyone put together stats on how many 2nd place plus teams have gone on to win state? That would be interesting to see.
As you stated, had the rules not been changed, not only Judson, but a few others would not have specific state championships.

It really says something about the new rule that you have two 4th place finishers in district in their respective state championships.

I can't argue that but then if a 4th place team can make it this far, why not a 6th or 8th place team? Where do you stop?
The point is playoffs should be a reward for winning your district. Remember, I am old school.

I agree, which is why I am looking forward to watching the DI game. I think the D2 game will be over in the Q2.

4 teams is fine. Just create a 6A, go back to the two team format, have one champ per class and you'll have the same number of qualifiers. Or bring back the B classes(i.e. Florida), revamp the min/max numbers, have two teams per district qualify, crown one champ per class & you have the same number of qualifiers. Too many districts aren't 4 deep with quality. Many struggle with producing three quality teams and we all know that there are entire districts that don't produce a serious contender. That said, it's a tournament. Lose and go home. Under those circumstances, anything can happen. The 4th place addition has not been the end of the world. 2 per is the best format. Everything after two has been nothing more than a concession to the pc babies out there and an excuse for the UIL to stay planted firmly on their arses, not fixing the system the broke almost two decades ago. They started first with the big class and now it permeates all the way down to six man. Would somebody please explain what the hell DII or "small school" six man is?

It will never, ever happen - but take out the 4th place team and let the district champ have a bye. You reward district champs, but still give the 3rd place team a shot. I'm starting to think 16 weeks is too long, but, again, we ain't goin' back there - ever again.
