There has been a lot of discussion on the venue selection process for playoff games. I came across a UIL rule that I didn't know.

For some background, use the 2006 game between Carroll and Permian as an example of the selection process.

If I recall correctly, it was a home/home flip... The reason it was at Jones was that Dodge said if they flipped home and home, that he'd force permian to play at Dragon Stadium if we wanted to use Ratliff, so the agreement was that the home stadium for Mojo was Jones and the home stadium for SLC was Texas Stadium, as Coach Allmen didn't want to have to try to play in a stadium as small as Dragon in a playoff game...

The above statement was correct. There are several things that go into determining playoff games. You can flip home and home, you can decide on a neutral site or you can decide on making it neutral with each team getting their own choice.
As was already stated Allman was going to flip home and home thinking that Dodge would throw out Tx Stadium as his home site. As any coach should do he said if Permian threw out Ratliff as its home site then he would make Dragon Stadium Carrolls choice. It is why the Abilene game was played in Waco in 05. Coach Warren for Abilene was going to flip home a nd home thinking that Shotwell would be used against Tx Stadium but that was not the case it would have been a flip for Shotwell vs Dragon Stadium. He quickly came to terms on Floyd Casey when he realized that Tx Stadium would not be the desiginated home for Carroll.
If Permian and Carroll meet this year then the game will be played at Tx Stadium.

However on June 13, 2006 the UIL announced a new rule for the home site. It says:The UIL Legislative Council approved a rule change regarding coin flips determining football playoff sites. The new rule states that a school cannot be forced to flip for a football playoff venue that cannot adequately accommodate their fans. The UIL will make the determination of whether or not a venue is adequate based on the fan attendance at the school's previous football games.

“We felt like this was a good preventative measure to protect our schools against being forced into a situation where they couldn't accommodate their fans,” said UIL Legislative Chairman Charles Butcher. “As school administrators, we know the importance of community support, and we wanted to provide our coaches with a rule they could fall back on to ensure their community had a chance to cheer them on.”

It seems to me that based upon the normal attendance numbers Permian fans claim, Coach Allman did not have to accept Dragon Stadium as a venue.

So it seems Allman didn't know the new rule and blinked first when Dodge offered Dragon.

Any thoughts?

I heard Coach Lineweaver put up Mesquite as the home site for the game with Permian.:D:notworthy

That would make sense if he didn't want to offer Texas Stadium vs. Jones.

Mesquite, Farrington Field in Fort Worth, and Pizza Hut Park in Frisco are the only other stadiums in DFW that have a similar capacity to Ratliff. Farrington and Pizza Hut are grass not artificial turf. Permian wouldn't have wanted to play at Pennington. And according to the rule, they might have been able to reject it anyway so Lineweaver probably didn't try.
