From Scout.com. Matt Diggs says Pville is going to get blown out. Thankfully, he also predicted that we would get blown out last week by Longview. Good bulletin material for Pville players. Thanks Matt!
Abilene (13-1) vs. Pfugerville (11-3) -- Pflugerville had a big victory against Longview - in a bit of a mismatch. They were able to run it right down Longview's throats and capitalize on turnovers and convert short field positions into points. Pflugerville has had a suspect defense this season, and their offense was their best defense this week against Longview. Abilene's defense was their best defense. Hebron was able to move between the 20's but had a very hard time doing anything in the red zone against Abilene. Abilene's offense was just good enough. When the offense wasn't doing it, the defense was able to keep it close - and then the offense put Hebron away late. This is what it boils down to with this game - Abilene just has a lot better defense. I have a feeling we won't be seeing much of the 2-3-6 defense against Pflugerville. I think the gameplan will be essential, and when it comes down to coaching in this game, I give the slight edge to Abilene. Defense and coaching are your X factors - and I think this game could possibly turn into a bit of a blowout. Abilene wins this game 35-14 over Pflugerville and they will advance to the state championship.

P-ville doesn't have trouble scoring. This will be the most athletic team Abilene has faced this season. Hebron is a spread team, many of them have trouble scoring inside the 20s.

What a great article. Thanks for sharing.
I guess the Panthers have "history" and "tradition." ;)
May the Eagles and Panthers, stay healthy, play the game of their lives and have no regrets.

Thanks for posting that fine piece. I have lived just across IH-35 from P'Ville for 10 years and this is news to me.

It just seems to me that the further Abilene High gets in the playoffs the worse you guys get. Should Abilene make it to the championship and heaven forbid they win it, this years SLC team will go down as the worst in your history. Not to mention the list of nobody's AHS would've been able to beat along the way. Let's recap this fantasy of mine. AHS will have beaten Westlake, Mesquite, Tyler Lee, Denton Ryan, Midland Lee, Midland High, Abilene Cooper, SLC, Hebron, and Katy. I understand this strictly hypathetical, and I only listed teams that have either won state or played in the state championship since 1990 which seems to be the only mark that counts to most people on this board. Me personally, I'd be happy with that.

I know that. Read my post. It's pretty much making fun of how after AHS beat Carroll that everyone is saying they weren't that great anyway. Sarcasim

Calm down just a little. He was actually defending the Eagles. We get that crap all the time about a team being the most this or the most that. Our kids suit up and put that stuff to bed. He was calling out a weak comment, not your squad.

Eagle81, I think I understand what you are saying. If you are reading the Katy threads, they are going through some of that as well (didn't play any competition, if he was driving a pinto and took the back roads, yaddayadda). Of course it denies the fact that Katy has been to state how many times and in the playoffs how many times?
I want to make it perfectly clear that my comment was in relation to the "most athletic team" part in general (not directly applied to p-ville and not reflecting on Abilene). For years we have heard "SPEED KILLS" "most physical" "most athletic" "fastest" "no competition in your district" etc. Same as what you have been hearing re: "west texas football", "district is weak", "got lucky" etc.
You know what? That is ALL BS. Who cares who the fastest, most athletic, best coached, luckiest, woulda coulda shoulda team is? People can say what they want, but when your team holds that trophy, none of it matters. All you have to do is say: "look at OUR trophy? Did you get one?" At that point you don't have anything to prove (not that you did anyway). At that point if you grouse about not getting any respect, or take seriously anyone who demeans your teams accomplishments, then it is a personal problem.
As the saying goes, "just win, baby". The rest will come. I bet you already knew that.;)

Hey, Hope you Dragon fans come out and set on the Eagles side. I got to meet a couple of your fans last week on the AHS side at half time. They of course had on the green. We talked about the game and I was surprised about the support and encourgement offered. I think it means alot when fans appreciate good football games no matter who is playing. Sort of separates the band wagon folks.

Seems as though Pflugerville and Abilene both are seeking to earn a little respect. Go Panthers!!

No doubt. No matter who wins this game and no matter how dominant or who they beat I guess you just have understand that skill, hard work, and talent had nothing to do with it. It was luck or the fact that you didn't play anybody, or that team wasn't very good this year is why your team is even here. Bottom line, if that's what everyone wants to think, I'll laugh after my team goes home with the championship. Good luck to the players and coaches on the field.

From a pure athletes standpoint, i would be willing to bet that Pville is the most athletic team that Abilene has faced this year. Not the best TEAM, (which consists of execution, coaching, blah blah blah) but the most talented. I know you SLC fans are throwing a fit over this, but i would bet you that it's a true statement. Again, not a knock on anybody elses team on Abilene's schedule. I still predict an Abilene victory tho, but not by much.

For most of the year, Hebron was prolific between the twentys.

idk if you can get much more athletic than SLC and OP. but if it's speed you're talking about, then possibly, but it takes alot more than speed to win a game at this point in the playoffs.

Pipe dreams! #20 will have a well done Pfluger for dinner Saturday. Isn't everone the most athletic team someone has faced this year?:) The P-villes have not faced a team as good as the Eagles, ever. The best team with the best coach will win. Eagles by 15.

Pville has had a long history of underachieveing with the talent that they've had over the years. They've had without a doubt more D-1 talent than anybody else in the Austin area over the past 6 or 7 years and they've probably put more kids into D-1 football over that same span of time than SLC, Abilene, and OP (i'm not about to do the research, but they probably average about 6 or 7 kids going D-1 a year with their 2005 team having well over 10). Again, it doesnt mean their the better team since they've had all this talent for that long and havent done anything in the playoffs with it, but this bunch is overall probably their most talented bunch ever as a whole.
