View Full Version : SA Reagan handled by SV
SV put a good old fashioned woopin on the mighty Rattlers. The game was not nearly as close as the final score. SV was up 26-16 with a minute left. Their backups gave up a last second TD.
Reagan had their chances, but seemed to fold when it counted.not much heart there.

Didn't sound like a whipping on the radio. 21-16 in the 4th quarter and SV had fits with Jones. Why not tell it like it was. SV showed why their one of the better teams in the city but give Reagan credit. Jones and Wright ran all over SV. The better team won in the end but it was no blow out like you want everyone to think.

what was the final? and where is sv in state rank v. reagan?
Gridiron Gopher

SV 26
Reagan 23
21-16 game with about 6 mins to go. Both teams went up and down the field all night. SV made the stops inside the red zone and that was the difference.

Rankings? Depends where you look. Average is about
SV 13th
Reagan 35th

I have to agree with gridiron....it was no woopin...I'm not even a reagan fan but I did listen to it on the radio....sounded like a game and SV wore them down eventually. 5 points is not a whoopin. and it was 21-16 in the 4th.

265a is just a very tough district right now. Six of the seven teams could beat any team on any given night. There's no let up. Should be a good warmup for the playoffs for who ever makes it.

Ok, I was at the game and Reagan was NOT handled by Smithson Valley.
Reagan had PLENTY of opportunities to win this game, but the SV defense would step up when it mattered most. Reagan kicked 3 FG's that could have easily been TDs if Reagan would have calmed down instead of getting too excited for being deep in SV territory.
The Reagan QB ran all over the SV defense. They could not stop him.
When is SV supposed to bust out?? I keep hearing they are supposed to, but I haven't seen it yet.

I like Madison's position right now but it just doesn't seem fair to be 4-0 and sitting so good.........then you have Judson, SV and then Mac. No rest for the leaders. :)

Very good game, guys, if your reading this - I am extremely proud of y'all.
Like I said, aclb is a "devoted reagan hater". SV did not lay a "whoopin" on us. Now, I know the crowd was a little upset over all the FGs....but I have to agree with Coach Wetzel on that one....they were (except for the first one) for sure points. The turnover early in the game was HUGE.....but Marcus made up for it. Shame the band wasn't there...we missed some of their "peppy" music. It was a great game.
And another thing - guys, I know you all read this - don't give up. Try your hardest against Roosevelt, Churchill and Judson

I was seeing similarities in the Madison game and the SV game....lack of red zone offense. Only this time, we kicked FGs instead of going for it on 4th down.
Maybe SV has busted out....but I think people are leaving the possibility that REAGAN has turned a corner in it's program....

I listened to the entire game and sure as hell didn't hear whoopin going on anywhere in that game. It was a great game and SV had their hands full the entire night! SV was tonight, well, SV. They were outgained by about 100 yds and all they did was win! They took a turnover and turned it into points, used their kicking game to pin Reagan deep to start every drive, and used hard-nosed defense to keep Reagan to FGs in the Red Zone! Great game for both teams and another quality win for the Rangers. This is the benefit of playing 26-5a, by the time the playoffs start, the three playoff teams have already played 3 or 4 playoff games! Congratulations to both teams on a well played ballgame!

If there is a tie for playoff spots, it could be decided by who won or lost by a certain number of points (positive points). It does not pay to be blown out, but it does pay to blow teams out.

Perhaps...but Madison and SV have a good firm on the district race....third place is still up for grabs.
Contenders for third:
Churchill
Reagan*
Judson*
Macarthur
In that order...except for the asterisk, I think they both are about equal. The reason why I put Mac back there? Cause Reagan has a tiebreaker with Mac.

I was at the game as well and there wasn't any whoopin' going on. I think most of the SV fans that know something about football know this could have gone in the loss column if a few things didn't work out. #15 was up and down the field all night, then I think he got tired so he gave it to #21 so he could go up and down the field. :) (just kidding about the being tired part).
No rest, as now SV faces Lee who decided they want to get in the mix after their showing against Madison. Someone mentioned it earlier that this district already has 3-4 playoff games under their belt and I believe it.

Lol, trust me #15 can run plenty :) (Greg Jones by the way)
The Reagan defense was a bit of a letdown however. They let too many SV runners through.

If Reagan's defense played SV as good as Churchill did they would have come out on top.

If Reagan didn't give up as many big runs as they did, it would've been different. But the offense needs to convert in the red zone.

26-5A goes by head to head to break ties. They only get to points in multiple ties with no head-to-head differential.

The tough district really does help come playoff time. The Valley, Laredo, and Corpus doesn't stand a chance and neither does 25 and 27 most years.

I thought their defense did a pretty good job against SV! They held SV to way less yardage than SV did them. Reagan didn't even punt until the second half!

While I will agree that Reagan has improved, let's not get carried away. Subtract your QB from the lineup and Reagan would have been stomped a new mudhole.

Again, the only stat that really counts is the score. Yeah, Reagan had some rushing yards, but the never had control of the game. The long double pass trick play against SV's second string cornerback at the very end inflated the passing yards a bit and made it a closer game. But when it counted, SV's D got the job done(redzone defense, two sacks and a safety in the fourth, ect.) Reagan played a good game, but a I still don't think they are at the level of SV. The way that Reagan's JV got whipped my SV, it may be a few years before they are.

I'll totally agree with you on that! SV's defense always gives up plenty of yards between the 20's and then just smacks the other team in the face when they get into the red-zone! I think that SV builds it's defense to not give up a big play for a score and let's you have a few yards here and there. But, when you get close to the goal line they tighten it up and make you pound it thru them if you want to score!

I'd agree with you on your points. But, the way this thread started is not a true statement, and you would have to agree with that. It's not like SV jumped on Reagan 21-0 and coasted to the win. Reagan played well with them.
