Just a few notes on some interesting feats that have occurred this week:
Regions II and III came awfully close to sweeping Regions I and IV in the 12 Semifinal games from lower classifications this weekend going 11-1. Region II swept Region I 6-0 in the 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, and 6-man Division I Semis as well as the 6-man Division II Semis.
Region III won 5 out of 6 over Region IV with the only win by Region IV coming in 6-man Division I where Region IV Richland Springs won over Region III Trinidad
Congrats go to Abilene for winning their 12th Region Title ever BUT this one is their first in EXACTLY 50 years as 1957 was the last time Abilene could call themselves Region Champs. Their last Region title occurred on December 6th, 1957 after they beat Amarillo 33-14, setting the new mark for consecutive wins that would last for 45 years as that was the 49th and last game of their famous win streak. They would be tied by Highland Park the next week, and eliminated from the playoffs, ending the streak.
Congrats also go to Converse Judson for tying Permian for the most Region Titles ever at 16, which is a record Permian has held since 1991, when they caught up with Wichita Falls.

What is the record for the largest margin of victory in a Regional game?
All-Time, the record is Waco over Houston Jefferson Davis 124-0 in 1927
Waco 124, Houston Davis 0 - click here to see the original coverage of the game (http://idisk.mac.com/cboehme69-Public/pdf/waco1927.pdf)
Waco scored 59 points in the 4th quarter alone.

In the modern era (since 1951) the record is held by Abilene....
In the 1954 Quarterfinals they beat El Paso Austin 61-0
In the 1955 Quarterfinals they beat El Paso High by the exact same score 61-0

I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty confident the 5A record (since 1980) is held by Converse Judson in their 63-7 win over Eagle Pass in the Division I quarterfinals in 1993.

Wasn't this the high school that holds the high school record for most consecutive losses like 80 or something.
I bet they don't want top be reminded of this.

I would imagine they consider 1927 one of the best seasons ever at Davis as it was one of only 3 times in the school's history that they played in a Quarterfinal game

Oh we ran up the score as much as we could. In fact, there were several bets along the vegas line on whether or not Abilene could match the exact score from a week before. The refs were involved of course because without them, it would not have been possible. Shorty Lawson bought his first place on the lake as a result of that game.
The only ones who chastised us were the ones who failed to get in on the bet. :D

Since 1951, I believe the biggest margin of victory in a largest classification Semifinal game was in the 1964 4A Semis:
Galena Park 58
San Antonio Highlands 0
For the Finals, that would have to be the 1998 Division I Finals that Katy got pulled from at the last minute...
Midland Lee 54
San Antonio MacArthur 0

Outstanding job as usual. Glad to see the Rockets are still adding to there total. 16 regional championships in the last 26 years. Is nine region champions (88-96) in a row a record for 5A?

I believe it's a record in any classification.... the next closest would be SLC's 6 from 2001-2006 (1 in 4A), La Marque's 6 in a row in 4A from 1993-1998 (which also happened to be 6 state finals in a row), and Waco's 6 in a row from 1922-1927 (also 6 finals in a row)

Jthe new mark for consecutive wins that would last for 45 years as that was the 49th and last game of their famous win streak.
actually, no. their streak lasted until Oct 5, 1962 when it was superceded by Pflugerville's 50th win (en route to 55)

That 55 has an asterisk on it as a large number of those wins were in 8-man football, not 11-man.
