I really thought the Lobos had the team to make it to the dance.

I've posted several times on here how scrappy the 14-5A teams are. Not great teams, but certainly too good to look past. Great team players, with some big hitters.

From what I've heard and read here, the lobos couldn't hold onto the football. Whether it was BIG hits or sloppy play, I don't know. Someone fill me in.

I'm really suprised their D gave up so many points.

Either way, Congrats to the Panthers on bringing your "A" game, and God bless those kids whose hearts are broken tonight

Good luck next year.

Didn't get to hear the entire game, but it seemed that P'ville was just too big and too fast for Longview. We had a great season. Sorry to see it end, but I am proud of our kids and coaches.

Lobos only fumbled the ball 3 times losing 2 all in the second half. Lost the ball on their first two times with the ball in the 2nd half. They didn't really have that bad of a game. Just got manhandled at the line of scrimmage and were outweighed at pretty much every possition out there. Hats off the Lobos on a great season. Many predicted them for 3rd or 4th in our district and proved them wrong to make it to the 4th round. :notworthy

District 14-5A and 26-5A are the toughest districts in Texas hands down.

Congratulations to the Panthers, good luck against Abilene next week.

Never thought Longview was State material, the East Texas 5A teams are no longer the contenders they have been in past years.

I agree, that 14-5 and 26-5 seem to be setting the bar right now.

East Texas will be back. There is too much talent and tradition for them to be down for long.

Is L'view dropping to 4A?

Thanks, PackAttack. I like the way we play football in Central Texas. It's tough on our kids because every game is a playoff game for us. We can never rest our starters. But I think it's taught our teams to focus on one team at a time.

And kudos to Longview. The Lobos did not fold and I believe played to the last minute. Things just were not clicking for them. (I think P-Ville had something to do with that.)

Yep, it was hard firing the 14 teams this year. That district was stacked. I honestly believe the last place team in 14 would've made the playoffs in at least 25 districts minimum.

Round Rock Westwood was 3-7 and finished 8th in 14-5A. Calpreps says they're the 47th best team in 5A! They wouldn't make the playoffs in:

6
8
14
26

They'd win these districts according to the rankings:

4
19
20
21
27
28
29
30
31
32

Wow. I already knew 14-5A was a meatgrinder, but this is interesting info. Thanks for the insight.

East Texas will be back!

The East Texas power teams have nothing to prove here or when they take to the field. The Lufkins, Longviews, Marshalls, and Tyler teams, I may have missed some but my point is they've earned the respect of the rest of the state by winning and playing tough, hard-nosed football under very good coaching consistently. The north Austin schools, 14-5A in particular, have finally caught on and begun hiring coaches, building facilities and doing the other things it takes to build a strong football tradition. It's been good for the programs, the fans and the communities. I say communities because with the exception of Georgetown, which lies just outside and to the north of the north Austin, RR, Leander Cedar Park, P'Ville area, all of the 14-5A schools are very close together. We live in an area where three high school boundaries merge. My oldest son attended McNeil as will my younger two if we stay put, but if we lived two blocks over in one direction, we'd be in the Pflugerville school district and if we lived two blocks over in the other direction my kids would be Round Rock Dragons. Leander High is probably closer to the RRISD Sports Complex (The Palace) than both Westwood and McNeil which call the facility home. My son played little league and Pop Warner with P'Ville High kids, hung with kids from Round Rock High, McNeil and Westwood. You'll see alot of cross school fan support largely becasue of close proximity of the schools.

I honestly agree! I moved up to Cedar Park and then North Austin the last 7 years from the Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen South Hawks). We love football down there but can never get past 26-5A. I think we as the valley (District 30, 31 & 32) are 1-24 against them the last 20 years I believe. I always attend the games between Pflugerville, Leander and Cedar Park when they play each other but I also attend the marquee games throughout the teams in 14-5A when they play each other or I watch some of the marquee games from 25-5A (Westlake district). Every game is a playoff game. These teams just play and simple, beat each other up consistently year in and year out.

Pflugerville finally broke out into the final four. It was just a matter of time for one of the 14-5A teams to break through to the final four and even the championship game.

Good Luck Panthers!

The present 14-5A reminds me of our old 12-5A East Texas district we had back between 1997-2003, where you could never afford an off week.

Good luck to Pfluggerville.

i am sure you got a kick out of starting this thread but I never thought we actually would make it to the championship game, not even to the 4th round. sure I liked my teams chances against almost anyone in our region but i felt in the back of my mind this day would come. this was about as average team as longview has ever had in recent years and they played their hearts out and had some good coaching and had some things go their way along the way to the 4th round. Pflugerville domniated us yesterday and I was very impressed with their RBs and defense. Longviews turnovers finally caught up to them and even if we had played no turnover football i am not sure we would have won.

What is that supposed to mean? Do you think I'm disrespecting your team? Maybe you should read the post again, and this time take off your hater goggles.

Don't be so sure of yourself. You beat all I've ever seen C. I am not like you, and will never try to rub salt in the wounds of the lobo faithful. You my friend are so single and vengence minded, that you don't even spot a neutral and congratulatory post when it comes from an Lp fan. Get some meds or something. I gave your boys props, and congrats on a good season. I was just trying to find out more about the game.

I do hope your kids are handling it well, and return to school with their heads held high. I look forward to seeing them on the gridiron next year.
