I know they are good, but do they have a following? I've never seen a poster on here...

I'm a fan and I went to the game last night. They played Kingwood and won 61-0. (back to lurking now)

we won 61-0. Had 542 yards of offense and they only had 3 first downs to our 26. All around good victory for the mustangs

There may be some truth to what you say. I personally think that Westfield will be the D1 champion this year. And I have NO TIES to that program whatsoever.

Let's be honest here, compared to SLC, no one has a fan base on this forum. :D Also, the strong quiet ones are the ones to worry about. Anybody can sing praises about their program, some just kill you on the field without a lot of hoopla. Nothing wrong with that. I rather prefer that approach.

I'm not taking a shot, I just don't know a thing about them other than the run they made in the playoffs last year and whats on the board. Carroll's killed a few on the field themselves, just for the record.

That run they made last year was with a mostly junior squad so most of all their key people are back. You can see why I like their chances to finish off what they started last year. And yes I am aware that SLC slays all of their opponents on the field quite thoroughly. And should I ever forget that, the plethora of SLC posters on this forum would be quick to remind me.

Not at all. Most of them are pretty classy. Its the arrogant and cocky ones that I have a problem with. But that goes for posters and fans from ANY program. I feel like it is mostly the younger posters that tend to be the most annoying. :)

In my several thousand posts, I'm sure I've had a few that might have been viewed as arrogant, but I try not to be. If you are familiar with the Westfield program, I'm just trying to get a feel for the support they get. We play teams around the Dallas area and while the kids may be competitive and play with skill & class, no one shows up for their games. I just think it's sad & don't understand it.

I totally agree that it is sad to have the lack of support. These young men leave it all on the field on Friday nights and the least we can do is show up and support them. IMHO, the large metro areas are the worst for fan support. I am not sure why that is. I guess it is possible that there is too many other things for kids to do on Friday nights.

Westfield doesn't get outstanding fan support, but, to be fair, their program is just now coming into its own. Until their previous coach, Ron Lynch, went door to door trying to get kids to come out for football, their best athletes were playing basketball and running track. They are just now getting those guys into the football program as freshmen. The talent that comes through that school is just sick...you'll be hearing alot about Westfield, I think, in the coming years.

Last year and this year are just the appetizer to what Westfield may ultimately be capable of down the road as a program. Just an amazing area talent wise all-around.

It is unfortunate that Westfield will not get a chance to play SLC on their way to dominating the playoffs and winning the state championship.
I do not think the game would be close when it is all said and done.
Too many athletes at Westfield. Truely the best talent in the state in either division.

I guess you guys forget about the fan base in Lufkin. We always bring more fans than a home team, no matter who we play, we support the "Pack" win lose or draw, but we don,t lose very much only four in four years, I think that is something to be proud of, just a few teams can claim a record like ours, 54- 4

So your convinced that Carroll would be unable to keep up with Westfield...that woud be something really different...I hope they get to play...I'm pretty sure the Dragons would show up, despite your opinion..they'd probably play the game anyway...just for grins..you know?

SLC has some pretty good athletes also. Watching the game the other night. I would say SLC has about 10 SR/JR that will probably be playing major college ball on Saturday. Along with a few solid 10th graders.

I graduated from Westfield a couple of years ago. You guys are right. The program does not really get a whole lot of support. The program definitely took a turn when Coach Lynch showed up. The year befroe he came they finished 0-10. Now there not doing to bad. I just wonder how things will be when they open up the new high school 07 and cut down the enrollment numbers.

Other people have a good fanbase around here. Too many people are clouded by SLC to look around at the other fans.
Westfield didn't have a lot of supporters on here last year. They did have some other Houston fans who wanted me to shut up, though! :D

It's both the kids and the parents. The richer kids have parents who are too busy doing other stuff. Smaller towns have more of a family feel that goes with going to games.

You guys may be presumptuous thinking SLC won't be able to play Spring Westfield. I haven't studied the schedules but, since Grapevine beat FR, if they and Denton Ryan keep winning and make the playoffs, SLC will go Div. I.
My brother watched four top 10 teams in four days last week, Lufkin vs. Klein Wed., SLC vs. DR Thur., Trinity vs. LD Bell Friday and Katy vs. Katy Taylor Sat. He says Lufkin is overrated, SLC is still very good but not as good as last two years, Trinity very good but how can you tell against Bell.
He figures Trinity-SLC is a toss-up, Lufkin loses to any of them and Katy, which has a good running game a better passing game than in 2003, would beat any of them. Without Chase Daniel's running in the second half of the 2003 title game, it would not have been so close at the end. Based on DR game, McElroy wouldn't be able to do what Daniel did.
Based on what I've read, Spring Westfield, like North Shore in 2003, may be the best in Texas.

Richer isn't the case for Westfield, it's a Title 1 school. I've had the opportunity to be at everygame in the last two seasons and they have improved every game so far to the point it's scary. A triple threat QB in Beasley who's getting lot's of scouting looks as well as having talented backs and receivers.
Now back to the Astro's, go stro's!!!

Ntxtiger, who is your brother......Jimmy Johnson... and what makes him know more than the rest of the people. I am a Lukfin fan all the way and one thing he said that I agree with . And that is that we are overrated, but rankings ar just ,predictions. There will be two 5a champs, and after they decide who goes D1 , D2 I will just about be able to tell you whos wins it all. But one thing I can say is that it,s going to hard for anyone to beat SLC. Their kids are no better or talented than a lot of the other top teams, but Dodge has a system that works and he know how to coach them. You could take Lufkin, Katy, Euless, Denton kids and a few more and put them in his system and you get the same results.

VB Pack Fan, you guys are clever. Is dragonsdaddy your brother-in-law or something?
If you have a better scouting report about your loved ones, write it up without name calling and sarcasm. I'm not bad mouthing Lufkin (they've got our number like SLC has theirs) or SLC (they are the champs until proven otherwise), just an opinion. I'll be glad to discuss again in a few weeks.
By the way, how many of these teams have you seen and what's your expert analysis?

Stangs fan here.
just an observation about some of the top teams, I have only seen the DR/SLC game but I will say that SLC doesn't make mistakes. I really felt that the game could have been closer. The 4th down misses seemed to really kill the kids mentally.
SLC is very well coached I was impressed with Dodge basically saying ok you stopped the run now try to stop the passing game, oh and while you try to do that we are only going to give you one maybe two chances to score.
I believe that a game where SLC losses would be a very low scoring game.
I have not had a chance to see lufkin play this year.
I will say about Westfield that they play hard, they play as a team. they have multiple threats like all good teams have. If I have one concern for Westfield this year it would be the way their schedule has been affected by the recent storms until last Friday they have only played once in 30 days. I only hope these last few games will let them get back to a 7 day rhythm.
now I too will go back to lurking. :D
