This will be a hell of a game. Its going to be at TS right? makes sense.
Skylines D is very strong and very fast, a big D front and strong linebackers, Reeves speed at LB is unmatched IMO, will be a good match against the strong running of Burkhead.
I never would have thought these two would have had the chance to meet so deep in the POs but this one should be great.
Im taking Plano in a tough one say, 17-14

Yep, its a nice one aint it? Yall could go down the street after the game and watch some real Cowboys. BTW, Memorial is a very good stadium: 10,000 seats per side, good parking, good access. No "crown". The Mesquite folks are good hosts. I was there last night. Texas stadium is not football heaven.

Seeing how Plano's D shut down Westfield's running game yesterday, I like Plano's chances against Skyline. Should be a close one. Plano 21 Skyline 17.

Speed, size, atheletism... Doesn't matter. We have the best run defense I have seen in a while. BUT, we do have a little trouble with running quarterbacks and from what I here Skyline has a great one.

You obviously were not aware of the smoke that Westfield posters threw last week.
All their D1 talent, massive LBs, Oline that was as fast as their receivers that ran 4.4s, blah, blah blah.
Granted, Westfield was tough, but not tough enough. Plano showed that motivation and discipline will overcome a ton of D1 talent. I doubt Skyline is that more athletic, or bigger or faster than Westfield.
Plano KNOWS they can overcome athleticism.
Does Skyline know they can beat motivatation and preparation?

All the teams at this stage are prepared and salty.
I have heard all the comparisons on this board. We are fast you are slow. We are more physical you are not. We run the spread better? We can run the ball? We are balanced etc.
Fact is both of these teams are very solid and I do think Skyline is for real. Both teams are very physical and both teams are athletic.
Sure there are individual match ups, ie. this guy is bigger or these guys are faster, but bottom line is it will be a war, and who is truly the one outmatched won't be determined until Sat afternoon at the end of the game.
The keys to this game will be the same ones over and over.
1. Injury free, I hope this is the case for both teams, but as you can see by the SLC-Abilene game it takes one key injury early to shift the balance. Nothing against Abilene they played a good game and deserved the win, but I think if Dodge is in the game the outcome would have been different.
2. Stupid mistakes and turn-overs this is always how the train runs off the tracks the one who makes the most turnovers or gets key penalties looses this game.
3. Sticking to what works and adjusting to what doesn't, the team who can stick to what works and quickly adjusts to what doesn't wins the game.
With that said I like our chances against Sklyline we are injury free, and I think we are balanced enough on both O and D to adjust.
I am concerned about our penalites as we do have a tendenacy to blow one at key moments in the game, so we need to play smart football.
Aside from that our boys will be ready for Skyline, I know the crowd will be I expect a sea of PAWS at Mesquite Stadium this Sat.
Good luck to both teams, should be a good one.

Plano-very balanced and beat a very good Westfield team.Remind me a little of Smithson Valley here in the San Anotnio area. And yes I have seen them both play this year.I would hate to see Brence get all the crdit in his last year but the boys are playing well-just to bad he waited so long to learn the definition of the forward pass! Thank goodness someone else is calling the plays or he would have waisted alot of talent again. Good Luck Plano!See you in SA on 12/22

All I know about Skyline is that they are dirty. East has scrimmaged them pre season the past two seasons. Last year when East went three rounds they laughed at our O-line for being small and this year their WR punched one of our CB in the face after making a catch. That and the usually excessive talk.

Just off hand, the answer is - yes.
Plano is one of those teams that always gets the best effort from its opponants. Perhaps not to the degree of SLC or Katy, but it is an impressive scalp on the wall to beat Plano.
Not only was Westfeild ready to play, they tried the intimidation route before thegame, an effort which was laughable.
And I stand by my previous comment.
And maybe Plano will be facing a tougher foe this week, but we'll find out for sure on SAturday.

Sounds like they were trying to psyke out your team, Carter had some pre-game smack going on and we beat them like a drum.
Not too worried about that kind of stuff and it will take more than a sucker punch to the face for them to win at this stage of the season.
The fact is I don't know if Skyline plays dirty, and probably by in large they are not, all teams have one bad apple that can let things get to them, but I think Skyline is smart enought that to win against Plano they must come prepared and play all 4 quarters.
Should be a good one for sure, and at least we will be in for a good halftime show by the Skyline Band always like the DISD big bands i.e. Carter, SOC etc. they really know how to get people on their feet.

You are joking right if you were at the scrimmage the corner pull the receivers face mask as he was tyring to make a catch and pull him down, you could see that from the stands. And he push him as was getting up. The HEAD COACH jump him. And if you were at the game they put 7 TOUCHDOWNS =49 points to there 1 =7 points:cool:....So character was not an issue, those KIDS can play ....And for your info Ringo likes playing Samples teams gives his kids an idea of what discipline tough athletes bring to the table. Don't down DISD kids or the team unless you no the facts those kids really have change the mind set of the program, community, school, and hopes of DISD.They have played many teams and no one has call them DIRTY...ALL YEAR....:D

I cant wait to hear what happens between Plano and Skyline this week. Is this there first meeting between these 2 schools. What alot of people dont know is that Skyline since 2002 is like 3rd or 4th in Texas in producing Div1 Athletes now they finally have coaching to compliment it. They have a real good defense really legit, but there offense is not very good, but they have potential to score at any moment. I predicted Skyline to beat Round Rock I just though it was a good match-up for Skyline, but I think Plano is just a little more seasoned and the Cats offense is a little better then Skyline's D.
Plano 21
Skyline 14
Skyline is more then capable of winning this game. The Qb for Skyline is my old roomate from college first cousin. He is a duel threat, but his legs are better then his arm. So I plan on talking a little smack to him if Plano wins.
BTW who ever said that Skyline does not have as many athletes as Westfield is wrong. Skyline is only behind Northshore, and SLC (Believe it or not they have sent quite a few since 2002) Skyline has even produced more D1 athletes then Lufkin, and Katy over the past 5 years. It looks as if they finally have coaching to go along with it.

Skyline played Plano in 1972 in Plano's first year in 4A and won in the playoffs. I believe it was in the quarterfinals.

Skyline has had good or great athletes for a number of years but they have always lacked a few things. Discipline and football character. Saw it many times namely a few years ago Skyline was beating Plano East at halftime and the Skyline kids threw all kinds of taunts and insults at the East kids going into the locker room. Alls it did was make a proud team mad and East came out and beat them badly in the second half. Skyline was a much more athletic and bigger team but they couldn't leave well enough alone. Plano won't make mistakes in this game and Skyline will. Skyline hasn't been in a game like this for a long time if ever. I don't think that Skyline has magically changed their ways this year so I'll take Plano in this one.

i was at those games. that was during the reign of brittan, the old coach. i doubt coach samples would allow that to happen. in fact, during the years of brittan, i never really saw any spirit for the school. with the arrival of samples, all that changed (for the better)

Among many of the things that you have to like about the Wildcats in the Playoffs is their ability to handle all types of opponents.
If the Skyline crew thinks intimadation is their best gameplan they will be mistaken. This Plano team is made up of some very tough hombres. Whoever finnally takes them out (if anyone does) it will not be because they intimaded them.

Nobody was after Kimbrough in 86 or 87 to throw the ball. Don't remember the 94 team throwing that much. Doesn't matter the era but that 87 team would have beaten most every champion from any year and they never threw the ball. This is probably the most well balanced Plano team that I have ever seen. Burkhead is a special player and he could be the difference in this game. Big time players always step up in big time games. This would be a big game. Talking to people around town there should be a big crowd for this one if the weather cooperates.

No doubt this is the most balanced offensive team in school history. However, the 87 team could throw when needed. Needham had a good arm and have close to 1500 yards passing and 1500 yards rushing that year. I also think he had 20 + TD passes as well. Over a 16 game season that only averages less than 90 yards a game. The winning TD against Stratford though was a TD pass from Needham to James that went for 50+ yards.
I expect a full visitors side on Saturday 10K+. Go cats.
KT's Note- no injury talk allowed.

"After starting at linebacker for Plano's 1986 Class 5A state championship football team, Steve Needham had an even better dream season in 1987 at quarterback.
He ran for 1,548 yards and 31 touchdowns and passed for 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading Plano to a 16-0 record, a second straight state title and the mythical high school national championship, according to one ranking."
Don't remember him throwing for that many yards but apparently so. I'll be at the game early.
