Lufkin wins. They have a tough defense like Katy and also have a potent passing attack. Woodz may not get blown out but will lose it.

If it was a home game I would have more confidense but I chose The Woodlands because the defense will all be back and healthy. If they do their normal performance, the offense will make the deciding game play because their confidence grows every week.

North Shore is averaging 47 points per game and that includes a 7 point output against the Highlanders. The Woodlands may have one of the top 3 or 5 defenses in the state, so it should be a good test for the Panther O. Their run defense in particular, is outstanding. The only thing keeping TWHS from being an elite team is their offense...if they get that figured out in the next couple of weeks, they could really surprise some people in the playoffs.

Dont tell me that we have to play them in a couple of weeks(LOL) Hopefully Old Abe want let us down and our Passing attack will overcome them. But what impresses me the most is the 7 points they help NS to and TWHS should have won that game by atleast 2 TD's

NS has a hugh offensive line. This was not a problem for us. If we do well against Klein Collin's running game, I will feel real comfortable. Humble has a great QB. We pulled that one out; however, the Humble WR's dropped a few key passes.

This will be a great game as usual. What is really neat about Lufkin are their fans. They are the greatest!

Wrong, NorthShore turned the ball over three times in the red zone. They had no FG kicker or the game would not have been as close as it turned out to be. The Woodlands have added a couple of players since that game and will be a formidable opponent for the Panthers at Abe Martin. The Pack has as strong a defense as anyone, even the Woodlands and more speed, the difference is, our offense is better. Lufkin wins 24-10!

One point the turnovers in NS game was a direct result of good team defense with players that are ready to hit you in the mouth period.

I do know this the KF will be the first test for the Purle People Eaters. The HighlanderNation has played tough teams 5 out 6 games. Every week they have improved. Playing Oak Ridge and Huntsville only gets everybody into the game.

In the end Old Abe is a great home field advantage. Monday, Lufkin 30 KF 14. TWHS 45 KC 7. Saturday, TWHS 42 Conroe 0. Lufkin 50 Huntsville 7. The War in the Woods. Both teams will be 5-0. Big crowd. Big upset TWHS 27 Lufkin 24.

My guess is that Klein Forest will have the shocker this year & beat Lufkin.

The Woodlands will just sqeak by Klein Collins. Our offense is not on all cylinders. Strange that we have sooo many weapons on offense & cannot get it done. Maybe keeping Dillon at QB might be the kick start. He had much zip on the ball & hit his receivers. The Huntsville game proved that when you can pass (Dillon), the run game is much easier.

I have to pick the Woodlands over Lufkin.... I have no choice

You’ve got to be kiddin! The problem with the Woodlands' offensive is and has not been the QB. It is the offensive line. Pound has a great arm, but that doesn’t make him a QB, much less a good one. I have pretty much agreed with most of your other posts up to now. You just lost my respect.

I’ve been trying to talk a friend of mine to move to Katy for years, and one of the reasons is that The Woodlands lack the ability to know talent when they see it. If they think putting in Pound will make the offense better, that validates my argument. - Go Tigers!

Says what? If TWH gets some solid QB play (which may be provided by Pound) then they could go very far this year, AND beat LP. They have so many offensive weapons it is scary, they jsut need to utilize them. Together with one of the fastest, hardest hitting defenses and the state... This team has potential to do some great things.

Lufkin has the best defense in state and The Woodlands has one of the best defense in state so the scores are going to come out low.

My Prediction:
Lufkin 21
The Woodlands 10

oldmanwoodlandsfan

No sorry im not his dad or in relation to him in anyway. Also I never said he was the answer, I simply said he oculd step in and spark this offense, we'll see. I don't see why you are so againts giving him a shot, nothing else has worked. I think Parsons has great potential but eeds to calm down, it seems like the game hasn't slowed down for him yet. I think that with the talent this team has they could do some great things and be a very solid team. The coaches jsut need to put the right people in the right place and give them opportunities to make plays. i would like to see Drabek, Smalls, and Grote stretch the field a few times a game.

I wouldn't say that. I know your team has done a good job of it in the past. But are you being sarcastic or what. I know you aren't being serious so...??? I have not seen anybody from Lufkin say Lufkin's D was the best in the state. I think we have one of the best but that is as far as I go when it comes to bragging. I have seen the teams with the best defense lose games and teams with the best offense lose games in HS, College, and NFL. It takes a team effort to win a game.

I have said Lufkin's defense is the best in the state and i believe it. So do many others including this site. This site had them ranked as the #1 defense in the state also. I have never said Lufkin is the #1 team in the state this year but they have the best defense in my opinion. They are just loaded!! I said it before the season started. I would also put The Woodlands up there no doubt. They are a top 5 defense and what they have done has been impressive. They have been on the field a lot due to a poor offense.

Get there early for this one. Probable 6:45 at least?? Lufkin sits about 10 thou but Lufkin fans sit on the visitor side also so it is tough for visiting teams to have a lot of fans. Ask Katy, Tyler Lee, or Longview!! ;) Everybody hates Abe but we sure LOVE it here in Lufkin. LOL

LOL not yet on the wife!! Not trying to brag on Lufkin's defense but it is very hard to tell?? None have had any good success at all. The rb's Lufkin has played had not had a chance yet because of the unbelievable penetration and speed by the defense. Ty Robinson was the leading rusher in the district before last night. He had about 34 yards!! He just did not have a chance because there would usually be 3 or 4 guys in the backfiled when he got the ball. I know The Woodlands has a great rushing defense so i do not see Lufkin have a big rushing game vs them either considering our running game is not great this year. Watch out for #12 though he has skills. He just does not get the ball much for some reason?? I expect Lufkin to get a lot of their yards by way of the pass vs The Woodlands.

You played a tougher non-district against North Shore and Katy, Lufkin can't hang with us. Last time I checked Lufkin was ranked ahead of both of those schools. The Woodlands D is the best. Right??? Mean Green Machine

It's the pass rushing that makes a good pass defense. Lufkin is fast and physical. That helps their secondary.

The same with the Woodz. I've seen the Panther live and they're smaller team on defense this year. The Woodz is fast and big and has put pressure on all the offenses they've faced this year. I think the Lufkin O-Line will be tested.

The Woodlands will be tested by Lufkins Wide Outs. Bryant is a beast period. But, in the end putting pressure on Clayborn will be the key to the game. Because he throws the rock up for graps, and usally Lufkin WR come down with the rock. We have the two best safeties in the state Skaufel (20) and Carpenter (8) they will hurt you. Ask Goodsen, Riser, Robinson, Sims, King and all the other "D1" and they will help cover Shankle and Bryant.

Old Abe will be a factor. In saying that, the Highlanders have been in big games before with large crowds. The Katy game 25,000 plus, North Shore 03 at Rice 35,000. Tyler 03 Triple overtime 25,000.

It we'll be a playoff game period.

Go HighlanderNation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You forgot a major wr Pack97 R. Thomas!!

Come on duke you change your mind weekly?? You said it was going to be ugly at Abe this year earlier what happened. As bad as The Woodlands offense has been so far this year it is hard to imagine them having much success vs Lufkin's very very good defense at Abe. I feel a 28-3 game in Lufkin's favor for some reason but possibly 35-6?? ;)

Mean Green Machine
10-18-2005, 05:32 PM
Hey,

I've been saying the same thing for weeks. It will be a show-down of defenses. I think Lufkin is a head of us on the offensive side of the ball. But, the Highlanders are turning the O around. Especially, at QB and RB play. The Highlanders have played a harder schedule period. If we played a 4A and Eisenhower our 1st two games we would be undefeated too.

Outside of KF the Panthers haven't played anyone. It's not to say they couldn't beat teams like Katy or NS. But, anyone can throw streak route for 3 TD passes over Conroe. That'll make any offense look good on paper and make you feel good too about how good you think you are.

Go look back at the video each time Byrant was in single coverage. It was a mismatch on the Conroe corner. I hope we don't make the same mistake. I think we have a better players than Conroe and we're better coached.

I'll state it again Lufkin has talent at the wide positions. The QB hasn't seen any major pressure or a solid defense. KF was a good test. But we beat them too and held their offense to 1 touch down.

Strap-up the chin straps.

Skaufel #20 is one of the best HS safeties I've seen, big fast strong and a great tackler, not only that but he is a total ball hawk. Carpenter #8 is also very good and plays much bigger than he is, he will come down hill and hit. the corners are both studs too, Charbonnett #31 is as close to lockdown as the Woodlands has ever had and Lake #13 is a very good athlete who is improving every game. The most amazing thing about this bunch is they are all Juniors by watching them play you would never think that.

Oh and BTW I know LP's kicker is good from what I've heard, but better hope he gets his kicks of fast cause the Woodlands has already blocked too amny FG's to count.

I can't wait to see the trio os Smalls, Montegue, and BUrns to really get rolling.... I'm telling you that is some serious speed....

Duke and OldMan .... You forgot to mention the leading and most consistent receiver for the Woodlands - Bova #7 He has only dropped 1 ball all year as I recall, and had made game saving critical catches against Humble and Klein ... and by the way he seems to block as well. Smalls has done nothing notable of late but everyone seems to like giving him publicity (as if he needs more). Grote has dropped more passes than any other receiver but, has deep potential. Drabek is a great athlete but has looked a bit enemic and non-interested. Montague is the real deal - best RB in the state and obviously not a WR. Pound has stepped in and got the job done and will continue to get better with experience. Lets also not forget Hudson and Burns who are capable of making some big plays. Bottom line ... lots of weapons but we need to be smarter at using them.

I am through with all this TALK, the Panthers will do the talking needed on the 28th.

You guys talk as if we don't belong in your league just because you played Katy and NorthShore. Last I checked Katy cleaned your plow ( oh, yea there are no plows in The Woodlands). As far as North Shore is concerned, they may be good but who have they played this year to get credibility, YOU? Actually they have played no top competition either.

So make your comparisons all you want, but you will play someone on the 28th that will more like Katy than anyone else you have played and it will be on our turf. We scrimmaged Longview and Humble this year and many of these guys were playing in the semi-finals last year against Southlake. The Woodlands will not present anything different than these guys have already experienced with other teams.

Don't count Klein Forest, we beat them 37-21 , should have been 14, second team O gave up a fumble return for a score, KF is decent but is overrated as a great team.

Nothing left to say here, I am done with this. I will let the PACK do all the talking on the 28th.

Matters not, I have seen pack teams play 5 or 6 top 10 teams in just the regular season and i have seen them not play any like last year in the regular season and they still have huge success come playoff time besides 2003. Wait was the woodlands in the top 10 when Lufkin faced them last year?? I do not remember?? In 2003 they beat 5 top 10 teams during the regular season and had a major upset in the 1st round. Last year they did not play one top 10 team and they went to the state semis losing to the #1 team in the land 37-30. I actually like the easier schedule now that Lufkin is in this Houston district. More restand less injuries for the playoffs and a lot of back ups get experience. ;)

Either way....it's going to be a good game if both teams show up they way they can.

I am sorry but The Woodlands has not faced the Abe factor!! This one will be over early in my opinion. I definitely could be wrong?? but i know this, 99 percent of the teams that come to Abe in the last several several years lose by at least 2 td's!! At least!!

Duke i am 31 and i have 4 little kids man and a job that takes a lot of my time!! I cannot pretend i am still a college baseball partying drunk boy the rest of my life Lord?? ;) Hopefully we can hang out and have a few but i am not sure because my grandparents are coming down from Iowa that weekend and this might be the last time i ever see them ya know?? They are getting up there and cannot visit often.

Anyway, my oldest son's class will be singing the national anthem at The Woodlands game so check it out. It should be funny but cute!! ;)

I understand, I am just giving you a hard time about it. I will check out your son singing though. Make sure you tape that, gonna be a good memory some day.

Scores vs. Common Opponents
vs. Klein
LP 42-10
TW 17-10

vs. Klein Forest
LP 37-21
TW 21-7

It is the FINAL score that counts... looking at the quote above, it suggests The Woodlands has the better defense.

Note that we played two top 5 teams & held North Shore to 1 TD... WOW !

This will be a good game. Actually, I'm glad both teams will represent the playoffs well.

Good luck to Lufkin & kick SLC's ***.

Let's have a good game & not get anybody hurt !

Just remember the defense gave up 2 scores not 3 scores to Forest. The other score was from the KF defense on a 70 fumble recovery for a td. I do not know what yall held KF to in terms of total yards but Lufkin gave up 190 to them and only gave up 40 yards rushing on over 30 attempts. A great screen call and a corner getting beat was the reason for the 2 scores. The LP D gave up nothing in the 2nd half. They never even came close to having a sustained drive in the whole game. Lufkin will give up a big play here and there because of their very very agressive style.

I looked at both The Woodlands defensive stats vs KF and Klein and Lufkin's state vs those two and they are very even.

The Woodlands vs Klein Klein had 54 rushes for 77 yards  Klein had a total of 124 yards. The def gave up 10 points.

Lufkin vs Klein Klein had 41 rushes for 124 Klein had 88 yards passing for a total of 212 yards. The def gave up 10 points FYI 2nd string defense played almost the whole 4th quarter.

The Woodlands vs KF KF had 44 rushes for 150 yards and 81 yards passing for a total of 231 yards The def gave up 7 points

Lufkin vs KF KF had 31 rushes for 40 yards  and had 150 yards passing for a total of 191 yards. The def gave up 14 points.

Both very very good defenses no matter how you look at it!! I do not know about The Woodlands but Lufkin has a ton of sacks and a ton of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. 2 of the best defenses in the state going at it no doubt in my opinion. I know Katy scored some points on the woodlands but that was mostly in the 2nd half and due to being on the field all day because of a bad offense and a great Katy defense. Even Katy did not have much success running vs The Woodlands so i know Lufkin is going to attack them with the pass early and often.

Lufkin needs to get past Hunstville first.

Lufkin needs to get pass Huntsville? Give me a break!

Kind of neat. Two undefeated district teams facing off the same week that two winless teams play (Conroe vs Oak Ridge).

Yeah - OR beating Conroe was a bit baffling. Conroe took it down the field and scored on us to go up 7-0 and was driving again at 7-7 before we got a pick and the floodgates opened. Conversely with OR - we were up 38-0 about 3 minutes into the second qtr. and I think they had negative yardage at the time.

Oh well, glad to see Huntsville get a W - hopefully we can get by them this Sat.

Pack0808 your right.

It will be the 2 best D's in the state. I give the edge to the Packs O right now. It's going to be a hack of a game.

Two points: 1) The KF team was a trash talking team. 2) The one thing I noticed in last years game both of these teams will come out and play hard nose smash mouth football with mutual respect.

Even if there were 10 people or 10,000. They want to play game period.

And that's all you can ask from these kids.

Both teams have a lot of pride and tradition. Both communities support the heck out of these great programs.

These kids work hard all year around to be in position to play in these type of games.
