Dorsey doesn't fit their 3-4 scheme. He's too small to play NG and not big enough to be a DE. New England looks to have a top 4 pick next year. If Chris Long is on the board, I think NE will take him. He's perfectly built to be their WDE. He may not be on the board though. If Animal Jr. comes out early, he would be a good fit at MLB. I also wouldn't be surprised if New England trades down because most of the top players in this coming draft, are positions that New England really doesn't need.

Dorsey's a good idea and really the only player I could see NE drafting at this point. Depending on the predraft frenzy & where that pick ends up it could be worth a small fortune in lower round picks. A trade down is far more consistent with New England's model than drafting a glamor player high in the first round.

Bruschi, Vrabel, and Seau are all old, so I think they would draft a LB. James Laurenitis is the only one worth drafting that high.
I wonder if they would be tempted to draft Darren McFadden even though they have Maroney.

I'm gonna be really surprised if Dallas doesn't make a strong move to get up and get McFadden. He's the lightning that needs to be next to the Barbarian's thunder. Jones is a f/a and, though underappreciated by the Dallas fans, will be allowed to walk this offseason. Plus Owner Jones is a Hog. Methinks he may covet. NE goes with the biggest, defensive front seven prospect or trades down. jmo.

I'm thinking they will trade down. They only player they may draft that high is long. Long plays in a 3-4 now, in fact, he plays in the same style 3-4 that New England runs as Groh is a part of the Bill Belichick coaching tree.
Otherwise, they can trade down and pick up a guy like Tommy Blake or Quentin Groves who would be good OLBs.

Funny you should mention Tommy Blake!
My cousin was telling me earlier, that the Pats would go after him and make him a LB.

He fits the Pats mold. Big, athletic for his size, smart, underrated and a team player.

Blake would be perfect, especially with his speed. People forget that he went to TCU as a running back.

I wouldn't mind seeing him drop to Dallas. Blake is built a lot like DeMarcus Ware and I would love to see him opposite Ware.

Forgot abut Spencer. Sorry. Carpenter is a bust BTW. Maybe he can become a consistent MLB.

Not to mention, Wade Phillips likes depth, especially at his DEs and LBs positions. As for Carpenter, Carpenter can play both middle and outside linebacker spots, but at the same time, you've gotta be able to get on the field too. That'll be hard for him to do, considering that he's behind Ellis, Ayodele, James, and Ware.

I agree with the spirit of what y'all are driving at. My point is the last offensive player that this team selected in the first round was David LaFleur about a decade ago. I realize the offense is not a problem this season but your'e probably letting Jones walk in the off season & Owens/Glenn are getting up there. Unless you're firmly convinced that Crayton is a good #2 and Hurd is a solid #3, you have holes to address on that side of the ball. Unless a prospect slides to you that you just can't pass, the defensive backfield is the only area of the defense that I would spend a top pick on this year.

Manningham is coming out of Michigan, Sweed from Texas, and Jackson from Cal are all coming out with some other good recievers.

I think Bill would trade down to a team that isn't a current playoff contender, he's smarter than doing something like giving the cowboys an early pick to get a real playmaker in Mcfadden. And probably would never do an Oakland and trade Randy Moss for a 4th rounder.
San Franciso could end up being a top three pick. They have a tough schedule down the closing stretch.
