Lufkin started flat, but responded very well in the second half. D played well overall other than a few blown coverages. O bounced back strong in the second half. Leonard Hewitt had a pick with a great return, a 40 yard punt return and dropped an absolutely for sure 90 yard td pick - got caught peeking at the green grass in front of him.

That is the first time i have seen Hewitt get beat for more then 10 yards on a pass play and that is pretty amazing!! He made up for it after that and had 1 pick but had another one hit him in the hands. That was the only completion he gave up. Brown got toasted a few times on a td pass and the other he got lucky the qb overthrew the wr which surprised me but played solid the rest of the way. Did any other panther notice we were missing a certian cb that rotates with Chris Brown?? He was no where to be found? Not even on the sideline. #3 Did grades come out??

Yeah i was there. Klein surprised Lufkin with a few pass plays and surprisingly beat our corners a few times but other then that they did not do much. had about 195 total yards and only 100 yards rushing on 40 plus carries!! Dang they have some big boys on that o line!! The panther offense looked better running the ball but they are going to have to eventually find another pass in the passing playbook other then the Dez fade. j/k A team will finally get smart and double with the safety on that play even though he still might catch it. He is that good!! Lufkin has plenty of other wr's that can make big time plays. I am exaggerating a little we have plenty of other passing plays but i am concerned about that being our main play and another team taking that away sooner or later. If they continue to play him 1 on 1 you can do it all day so i do not blame them a bit. If Thad can just learn the routes he would be another major weopon on the outside at 6'3. MR took his position again last night after he stopped another route??

LPFan, haven't had any Cajun XXX movies released that I know of but, there may be some out there. I made the KF/Conroe game last and it was not a thing of beauty to say the least. KF had two starting o-linemen out and other that looked banged up. The Rb, Vincent didn't play at all and heard we will probably not play Monday. Robinson, the starting running back, went out late but, I think he may be back Monday.

Agreed P0808 -- Thaddeus needs to get on the same page - the kid is a real talent - but seniors don't consistently run wrong routes. I have a feeling EJ may see limited touches Monday - but, hopefully not. This O will have a MUCH more difficult time with KF's speed on D if it doesn't get a little more creative.

I was more impressed with the play calling last night. LP seemed to mix it up more and not rely entirely on the long ball. The score could have been a lot worse in the 1st half in favor of LP if key plays had been executed. 4th an 1, missed Int. by Hewitt, etc....I have been very impressed with the running of Jacory Turner and he's just a Junior. A little small but runs big! That 30+ yard run on the screen was impressive, the boys fast and elusive. I saw something last night that says the LP O-line is starting to really gel...Max Taylor was obviously limping but motioned for the coaches not to pull him on several occasions. A little thing, but one of the things that can bring unity. At the begining of the season they were getting kicked out :D
Really don't see the LP offense having too much trouble, if they start strong. I hope KF brings better fan support that Oak Ridge or Klein. The fan supprt for Klein was pathetic and it was a home game for them. Maybe I am just spoiled to the old East Texas district where every game was near capacity crowds, just seems more like football with all the buzz. LP had more fans than Klein and we had to travel 240 miles round trip on a Wednesday night  I seem to remember last year's KF - Lufkin game and they filled less than 1/2 the stadium??

I have been telling yall about J Turner. Guy has skills at rb. Lufkin still needs to run more short routes like curls, slants, and outs in my opinion. That will help setup the deep ball. Well nevermind, if teams keep playing Dez 1 on 1 just throw it up because he cannot be stopped. I am serious, This is guy simply an amazing specimen at wr. Might be the best i have seen at the hs level?? The O-line is looking better. Like i said, they will get their first true test Monday vs a very good KF defense. I think they will be just fine.

Coach Outlaw said Klein had the largest O-line he could recall ever playing against at the 5A level. Of course, if LP plays Dallas Carter he may change his mind. But, LP's super-fast front 7 loves over-sized O linemen - and they proved it again last night.

I think a few of his picks have been the fault of the receiver running the wrong route or quitting on the route. I have been impressed with Claybon this year but in a way have been a little underwhelmed. I mean we have been hearing about him since middle school.

Yes Thad has caused Claybon a pick two times now because he has stopped his route. That is why you are seeing a lot of Marcus Raines instead of Thad. Thad could be a major weopon on the outside along with Dez if he can get it together but MR is a very good wr and has good speed and great hands. Thad is 6'3 and can get up so he makes a better outside type of wr then MR. MR is more of an inside wr but Thomas and Shankle are already there. Claybon can look very good at times and very bad at times. He is learning but he has a load of potential. The one good thing is this, when he misses he misses so bad the other team usually does not even have a chance to pick it off. ;) He is average to good but will eventually be very good in my opinion.

Not getting down on Lufkin, but when you watch a precision spread like SLC on TV last night, then you see our guys breaking off routes, running wrong routes, two guys ending up in the same spot, etc. -- you wonder just how good LP could be if they really, really decided to knuckle down, get precise, throw in a few new wrinkles a week - and not wing it so much. Just my observations -- I'll take 41 points a game or whatever, but against really good D's those miscues and poor routes get much bigger.

Oh i agree our routes are way too basic. Basically bomb's, fades, and swing passes with a few stop routes mixed in. They have so many good wr's and they could do so much more damage if they ran some different routes at times. I am sure they will but they are trying to get the new qb and the new o-line comfortable. A lot of times Outlaw holds off on things and does not show new wrinkles when he does not have to.

I agree with you Pack - but I disagree with that game plan philosophy. LOL - I'm sure the coaches care what I think. But, bottom line - work on what you do and don't worry about what others see. Do you really think SLC is worried about showing too much? I just don't believe in the "play it close to the vest" philosophy at this level. Work on precision - and you'll be precise. This team could be an absolute offensive juggernaut with a bit more creativity and committment to precision.

I know but he does it every year. His philosophy is if he can manhandle the mediocre or bad teams with basic plays he will just use basic plays and let the athletes take over so he does not show that much. I do wish they would change the game plan so that they will have more time to work on it instead of installing some new plays right before a tough team!! but we cannot argue with it look at his record!! He is one of the best period!!

FavPack, your take on the Panther offense is fairly close. We will never do what SLC does, even though we have great athletes in the skilled positions. I know much of the reason, but I will not ever elaborate on the reasons. We have had optimum success in Lufkin for the resources we have been afforded here, Southlake is a different enviroment all together. They have the financial resources in that community to provide a consumate successful atmosphere, that many in Lufkin never realize. I am very proud of our success in the Lufkin community and would not trade it for any other.
I also agree with Pack08, we probably will never run the same system as accurately as SLC or with the same success, but you can't argue with the results of the Panthers the past 5 years. The two schools take some similar, but different approaches to their coaching philosophy in some ways, but have the same winning goals in mind.
