Reagan beat OC in Week 1 21-14, but will this time around be different? Whoever wins this game has to be the favorite to make it to the Regional Finals...and I'd say is the Regional Favorite outright.
OC's offense is clicking on all 12 cylinders with the addition of Phillip Burns at WR as well Jerreal Minor maturing at TB. This is not the same team the faced Reagan in game 1. Will it be enough?
Reagan's offense is truely blessed to have a legit Div I RB in Marcus Wright. He took over in the Westlake game when needed. Will he be enough?
So where do we stand on defense? Will this game be a repeat of last years 4 OT thriller in the dome? Are there key injuries on either team?
What are your thoughts?
Good Luck to both teams.

If O Connor wins on a fluke I dont see them winning region but if reagan wins it will be interesting to see how they perform in the finals!
But any team can win on any given day!

Both teams have improved since game 1, so it should be a good one. Reagan's defense is actually playing better ball than some of the scores might indicate. The key will be our O's ability to (1) not turn the ball over and (2) sustain drives. We can put points on the board, but a sustained drive which changes field position and rests the d even it it does not result in points is important. Reagan first made it to the playoffs last year at which time they learned how to win. The team went into the Westlake game this year expecting to win. We have a great deal of respect for O'Connor, and realize that winning 3 in a row against such a strong program is a tough task, but you can't compete at the state level if you can't get out of your own city, so let's get it on!

Last year I said once Reagan learned how to win..they would win at the state level. You're there now. This game should be a classic. Last years 4 OT thriller was one of the best games I've ever watched..Don't know if my heart can take another game like that, but that's what makes High School football great. I hope the winner of this game plays again in the Alamodome on Dec 22nd.
Super Post and Good Luck. Hope all our kids stay healthy.

If O Connor wins on a fluke
Why would an O'Connor win be labeled as a fluke? Both Reagan and OC play extremely well. The Reagan win came at the beginning of the year which is usually dominated by the run game. You usually won't see the more complex passing schemes untill the year goes on and teams get a ton of reps under their belts. I'll admit that Reagans run game is outstanding...but OC has a much more balanced attack. Reagan will have to contend with two of the top WR's in the area. Double team them and Reagan will have to contend with one of the areas best pass catching TEs. OC's run offense is much improved thanks to depth on the O-Line combined with a much matured TB and the fact you have to play for OC to pass. This game will be great but I sure wouldn't say an OC win would be a fluke. I'd be more surprised if SW beats Judson...Even then I have to respect SW's undefeated season.

I don't believe that we'll double team anyone. We haven't all year. We didn't last year. We're stronger in the secondary than last year. You do have very strong receivers. We'll see who comes out on top. We can't rely on having won early in the season, but we no longer wonder if we can win and don't come into the game hoping to get lucky. We don't think we have to resort to gimmicks. We believe that if we play to our ability, we'll win. I'm sure you O'Connor folks feel the same way and rightfully so. It will be settled on the field in a hard-fought game Saturday, not in these boards. Good luck to all.

I don't believe we have to use gimmick plays, but I'm pretty sure we will. It's the playoffs and OC needs to start getting past the second round! Good Luck to both Teams!!!!

Team A beats Team B.
Both teams meet again later (most likely in the playoffs)
And team B has improved while team A, of course, has stayed stagnant.
Sometimes people's logic amaze me.

Please start a thread posting any information you have about any of the remaining valley teams. It is always very frustrating for the rest of the state to never here much of anything about the Valley. I'm not looking for "we are going to put a beat down on SLC" I'm looking for stats who are the stars and how teams got to where they are today. We in San Antonio have a long history of taking Valley schools to the wood shed but someday that will end maybe in 5 years, maybe next year maybe next week who knows. To me Westlaco looks to be the scarcest with Rivas running the ball. Last year SaMac just did squeak by a valley team that had some star power as well. Rivas and Westlaco maybe even better. So maybe next week is the week. As for the other teams I can’t tell you a lot so information would be great.

And he was banned from the Alamodome...I think just for the year.
Course I don't think they could tell if he came back or not. Face paint, etc.

Glad to here his parents got to him, and it has not caused any ill effects on his life. I would hate to hear he was making bad porn movies in El Salvador and having to sell oranges on the side of a dirt road just to make ends meet because of what happened....

I agree he should've been disciplined....just not taken down, suffocated and have his eyes almost gouged out...that may have been a tad severe.
But his parents didn't take to it lightly from what I heard.

As long as we have great o-line play like last Saturday it will happen. We were excited to watch #76 run up in the secondary looking for a DB to take out as well as the other linemen's effort, that was traditional o-line play we know that will help this team advance.

You're correct when you speak of Weslaco and Mishak Rivas.
They should get by the second round.
Mishak Rivas scored 6 TD's with 369 yards to outscore Ed. North 62-49.
With his latest rushing total, Rivas has 2,772 yards on the season, surpassing McAllen Memorial’s Bradley Stephens. Stephens finished with 2,622 yards in 10 games two years ago. He averages about 15 yards per carry.
Los Fresnos also has a chance to make it to the 3rd round again. With the departure QB-Springer (UTEP) and MLB (Kansas-playing as a true freshman), they still return a couple of D1 OL (Benavides-Louisville and Atkinson-UTEP). The Los Fresnos RB has pilled up 1713 yards and Los Fresnos has 4388 yards of total offense.
Harlinen South (11-0) is this years RGV #1 team, they should take care of business this weekend and move to the 3rd round. They have a well rounded team, from a good QB, a good running game, and a good defense.
Be back later with more info.

Donna v Los Fresnos and La Joya v PSJA are the 4 teams left in D1. I don't know much about any of them. Weslaco and Harlingen South are in D2. You can't look past anyone in the playoffs, but I do believe that the tougher competition is in San Antonio vs the Valley.

PSJA (9-2) Beat Los Fresnos(9-2) in week 3 28-24 with 40 seconds left in the game.
Donna (9-2) came out of nowhere and captured the district title but lost some steam after losing their RB who had 1200 yards in 7 games and was easily going to break 2000 yards.
Los Fresnos, well I gave you some info on them a couple of posts ago.
La Joya limped into the playoffs with a 4-6 record and then embarrassed district champion Laredo United (8-2) in a shutout.
O'Connor always plays very hard and with allot of class I would excpect nothing less than a barn burner!

I've noticed some of his post game comments are more "they didnt win, we just lost" type of comments.
But to each their own.
He is a good coach and very aggressive in playcalling. Reagan must be ready. All positions need to be alert and 'stay at home'.

rattlerfan...I'm not sure where you're coming from in saying that Coach Padron is not giving his players any respect. My son's been in the program for four years and believe me Coach Padron has "earned" the respect of his players, just as they have "earned" his respect. Coach Padron and his entire staff teach these kids much more about life than football. Coach Padron is very involved in FCA, and as focussed as he may seem to be on football, he teaches each of them to be a Student Athlete, not an Athletic Student. He's been extremely involved in my son's future in persuing football in college and has even brought his son Andy in to answer questions and concerns about college choices and majors. Bottom Line....Coach Padron has Earned my respect as well as the respect of my son.

Couple of things.....
There are no issues with respect at OC either with the players or the coaching staff or with each other. End of story.
While it is interesting on information on the valley teams, it would be better if everyone focused on thier current opponent. OC & Reagan , Los Fresnos & Donna. After Saturday travel plans will be made and then the focus begins on the next round's opponent.
Have fun, enjoy Thanksgiving with your families and watch some great HS, College & Pro football over the next few days.

I don't think this game comes down to Reagan's defense--they weren't that impressive last week. I think in any second game between two teams in the same season that were fairly closely matched, I think the loser of the first game has an advantage in the second game.
Someone on this thread said Marcus Wright, who is very talented and worthy of respect, gets stronger as the game goes on. I obviously haven't seen him all season, but unless I'm way off base--I think he got twice as much yardage in the first half as in the second half. We seemed to come up with a defensive scheme that helped contain Reagan in the second half, and started catching up and almost came back from the initial 21-0 deficit. But we didn't have too much trouble moving the ball against Reagan, which is why I'm surprised that anyone thinks they have such a great defense. Abilene is the only team this year that really shut us down offensively, in the first game, Reagan certainly didn't.
I think the biggest question in my mind is the O'Connor team. They have to have a strong offense, because the only way to counter the Reagan's two back explosive offense is a shootout--they will pop long plays for touchdowns on anyone. So you have to have a defense that can contain them MOST of the time, and an offense that can outscore Reagan.
I do think that the winner of this game will advance to the Regional finals. Good luck!

Still bitter, eh?
You all moved the ball because you ran a few trick plays and our offense became predictable and conservative. The only reason why you all scored in the last minute was for that reason....we made you all run and run the clock down. It should've been 34-20.
As for the OC-RR game.
Reagan's defense is better than some may let on and the offense is more balanced than others would let on as well. I think this team may just be more talented than last years.
